  • "Pros: Josie's house was spotless and vast!"

Kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc. The views from the house are spectacular and the area around is just beautiful. Communications with the owner were good too. I think this would be a great property for a big family to use in the summer months, with lots of lovely beaches nearby. Cons: Driveway was very rutted and could do with some work. We visited in March and found the house to be too cold for our liking. However the owner adjusted the central heating timer for us. Plus we bought coal and logs and got a fire going in the living room. It may have been because the house had been empty before we arrived and took a while to heat up

  • "The cottage was absolutely amazing, it had everything that we needed for our stay and was in the most beautiful place."

The directions to get to it needed to be a little clearer though. The pump house is small and hidden behind bushes, so we completely missed it! On calling the owner and learning that the little lane after the pump house, up to the house, is only about 100 yards from the house with the flat roof, on the opposite side, helped and we found it straight away. It truly is a hidden gem though and we would recommend it to anyone. Beautiful house, beautiful setting and the perfect place to both relax and explore. Thank you. Sharon, Adam and family

Would be five stars only for the drive up the lane way. Dreaded having to go up and down for fear of damage to car. Pity the local pub was cancelled. Can't fault the house just beautiful and spacious and spotless. Thank you

  • "This was a fabulous house."

It had 270 degree views of Waterford Harbor down to the lighthouse, close to beaches and super comfortable. The house is spacious and well equipped. It was very clean. Eating out was limited on the Hook, the nearby restaurant was closed but New Ross is not far. A few minor areas to improve, the lane up could be improved, mattress upstairs wakes up the other person because the springs are so loud, a decent frying pan with the surface not coming off and a couple of extra mixing bowls would make the kitchen perfect for self catering (overall well equipped). A really glorious spot with good weather. We had a lovely week on the Hook!

Lovely home, from home. If you’re looking for peace and quiet it’s here. Wonderful views and a lovely area to explore. The sunset behind the distance mountains is amazing, as well as the diving gannets in the estuary. House is well equipped and plenty of room. Thank you

Only two but even so at night could see right in Directions incorrect from ferry port told to go left at 2nd roundabout. Dunncannon it’s infacr rosslare roundabout And counting feet it’s third and at night in dark difficult And more info in house would be good ie local pub closed down for winter Was very wild and windy love a good storm

We thought the main bedroom mattress could do with a upgrade.upstairs space could be utilised better and get rid of all the hanging wires in the rooms, but having said that we (and our dog) loved it there.

  • "We had a great holiday."

The house was lovely and the scenery fantastic. The drive up to the house was diabolical. That’s the thing that would stop me from booking it again. We also could have done with the oil central heating being available on one or two nights as it got quite cold. Also I have been booking homes in Ireland for years and it’s the first times we had to bring our rubbish with us. We are used to tying the black bags and throwing them in a bin provided

  • "The house is in a great location and has amazing views, the kitchen is super well equipped."

It just feels a little empty and doesn’t have much character (lots of empty spaces, not decorated much, feels a little odd). The huge empty space upstairs is a great example of this. Some of the mattresses could do with replacing too. A bit of guest information (a book of local attractions and information) would help a lot too. Hope this is taken in the spirit of ‘would be even better if’ rather than criticism. We had a lovely week and the location is stunning

  • "Fantastic views, beautiful house, the water on a timer so hot water limited, no cold water one day in the kitchen and utility room, we went out for the day and it was back on in the evening so it didn't really hinder us, the plugs all went off one day it was a very misty day outside, there was no information book so we searched for fuse box (in utility room behind the door) garden furniture table and chairs great, nothing to lay on though."

it could do with a shelf in the bathroom as nowhere to put things and no dressing table or mirror. all this said we had a great holiday. the drive up to the property needs attention as car scrapes the bottom. i am disabled and we had a 3 month old baby we all loved it there. We left a couple of items in the property and the owner was a great help in posting these items back to us, the owner went above and beyond and was extremely helpful while at the property.

The beds were comfortable. Sitting room furniture comfortable but could be updated. Kitchen well equipped. Bathrooms clean but not enough hot water often only lukewarm water in shower. Laneway entrance badly in need of repair could damage bottom of cars if not careful!

  • "We loved the position of Josie's house, with fabulous views around the Hook penisula, including the Hook lighthouse."

The property was spacious and clean with good facilities in the kitchen and utility room. Great for our dog, as it has a large garden at the front and hard flooring throughout. We did find the property cold however, especially early morning and in the evenings. We were aware that there was to be no heating provided between May and October, apart from lighting the open fire in the large living room. Curtains in all the living areas and bedrooms would have helped retain heat. When we alerted the owner that it was very cold, Josie did agree to provide 2 hrs of heat in the evenings, but it had little impact being a large property. Perhaps the owner could consider the option when booking of providing heating at an additional cost. The road to the property is steep and long and shared with other properties which is in bad need of repair,it is badly rutted and could damage a car, being more suitable for a 4x4 vehicle at present.

Just spent a week here, weather was good, some wet days which were easily passed staying indoors in Josie's house. Excellent room throughout the house. Good mobile signals too. The photos do not do justice to the location. Loads of good food locally on offer. Only an hour from Curracloe beach too if you want to Save Private Ryan. Loads of abbeys, walks, beaches and of course Hook head itself. We will be back.

Please take note: the photos do not do the house or the breathtaking view justice; both outstanding. This is a brilliant location that allows access by car to amazing beaches: Duncannon (10mins), Dollar bay (5 mins, no facilities), Booley bay (5 mins, no facilities), Currlacoe (50 mins - AMAZING). Good for the following: Tintern Abbey/gardens/forest walk (15 mins), Hook lighthouse (spectacular views 10mins), Kilkenny(1 hour), Wexford and Waterford (50 mins). Local pub serves great food and drink and is a 10 min walk via a bendy road- be careful. House quite noisy in the wind at night so bring ear plugs of particularly sensitive, especially upstairs. Overall an amazing holiday and house, book now!

About the location

FETHARD-ON-SEA, COUNTY WEXFORD

Duncannon 5.5 miles; New Ross 17 miles; Waterford 31.5 miles.

Fethard-on-Sea is a village nestling to the east of the Hook Peninsula, in the south-west of lovely County Wexford. Fethard-on-Sea has a colourful history, including the lifeboat tragedy of 1914, and the Fethard-on-Sea Boycott, which has been immortalised in print and on film. Now a quiet fishing and holiday village, Fethard makes a great base to enjoy sandy beaches, shops and pubs. The Hook Peninsula continues to attract visitors due to the ancient lighthouse and a multitude of beaches. There is a beach a day for a fortnight on the Peninsula, plus there are a variety of watersports, such as diving, snorkelling and shore angling, along with painting and birdwatching. There are many interesting historical sites to visit, such as Tintern Abbey with its walled garden, guided tour and forest walk and medieval abbeys in Dunbrody and Graiguenamanagh, plus the star shaped Elizabethan Fort at Duncannon houses a military and maritime museum, and The Cockleshell Art Gallery. Head up to New Ross and visit the JFK Arboretum or the Dunbrody Famine Ship, or travel over to Waterford in the west or Wexford in the east to take in all they have to offer, from the Wexford Opera House, Johnstown Castle and The Heritage Park to Waterford Castle and Waterford Crystal.
