Harbourside Cottage

Property was as described and it was nice to receive a welcome text from the owners.

No problems experienced so we didn't need to make contact. Instructions for thermostat (it wasn't that warm in the week we visited!) and oven were needed/used. We weren't sure about recycling so used the bins available near the main street. Property is ideal for exploring Torquay and surrounding area. We liked being in a quiet spot near the harbour.

Location is perfect , the property is a little dated and could do with an uplift .

When we arrived it smelt foistie . Air fresheners were bought asap . Lovely gifts wine, shortbreads and a dog toy . Joff was great for a point of contact . The bed was comfortable and plenty of hangers and hanging space . Downstairs accommodated working whilst away the WiFi was brilliant . The stairs upstairs are narrow and if you have a little doggy like us can be a little hard for them !!! Nothing to compare against as never visited Torquay before so price wise I don’t know but location was fab !!

The property we found to be really cosy.

had a lovely safe patio area for our dogs. Near to all amenities also very quiet.all in all we had a lovely few days break.the only thing i would say is that the cottage is looking a little tired could do with a paint to freshen it up and may be new furniture in tbe lounge as the chairs were a little uncomfortable just meeds a little tlc on the whole but this is a positive going forward Other than that a nice quirky little cottage. We will definately return at some point.

Cottage is not suitable where situated for anybody who has mobility or medical conditions, as to where the cottage is located there are many steps or a steep hill to get there.

This is additional to the six steps which are in your advertisement for this cottage, but feel that the former should be added to the advertisement to avoid others having the difficult situation which we did. We have never had a problem with previous Sykes cottages we have rented over a number of years.

There were some good points: the property was very clean, and the broadband connection was excellent.

However, it was also very small. It’s important to highlight that this property is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. There are seven very uneven external steps with a loose handrail and loose stones, which pose a safety risk. The internal stairs are extremely steep — even our two-year-old dog struggled with them. Although there was a photo in the listing, the steepness of the internal stairs needs to be made much clearer. I would strongly suggest stating in the listing that this property is unsuitable for guests with mobility challenges. Parking is difficult, but this is well documented. The car park is approximately 500 metres away, and most of the vehicles parked there had visible scratches or damage. I was genuinely concerned about the safety of my car while it was parked there during our stay. The property is located very close to the “lively end” of Torquay, and on Friday and Saturday nights, the noise and activity from music and revellers were very noticeable. A few smaller points I noticed: None of the electrical appliances appeared to be PAT tested, which they should be. I would also recommend installing a fire extinguisher in the property for safety.

Cottage was lovely, but smaller than expected.

But still enough room for both of us and 2 small dogs. Stairs in property quite steep which I found a challenge as i have some mobilty issues. I spoke to owner regarding this and he did his best to find another property for us, but unfortunately all booked out. This was so kind of owner, as this was my own fault for not stating my mobility problem. Very kind and considerate man.

Nice comfy cottage close to the harbour.

Nice touches on arrival of wine, biscuits and treats for the dog. Suited ours needs well for the week.

There were a few maintenance issues, e.

g. needed to call out owner to get central heating working when we had a chilly few days and toilet roll holder was loose. No heated towel rails. Property not very dog friendly as courtyard all hard surfaces. Most dogs need grass, according to the Guide Dogs Association too. Having to use public car parks was inconvenient, we understood that we were expected to load/unload in 10 minutes.

Needs a bit of TLC to be spent on it

Nice cottage felt the living room and kitchen were on the small side, the stairs were awkward especially for the dog.

We had an absolutely amazing time for our week in Torquay at Harbourside Cottage.

The cottage was just perfect. So clean with everything you need. There was even 2 dog toys for our very grateful Springer Spaniels. You are right there in the centre of Torquay but without any noise. Perfect cottage, perfect location. We will definitely be back.

A lovely accommodation and in an exceptional position for the harbourside and town.

Definitely on our list of places to visit again.

The cottage was in an ideal location for exploring.

Close to the harbour and central Torquay, perfect placement for a walk into town. Parking was convenient and only a short walk to Meadfoot Road, we purchased the 8 day permit which also allowed us parking in Paignton and Torquay. We also appreciated the gift for our collie too, such a lovely touch! We’ll definitely be looking to come back again, we had such a lovely time.

Lovely week away in Torquay.

This cottage is an ideal location within short walking distance of harbour area and town. Cottage is very quaint and has all facilities needed. On arrival biscuits and wine were very nice touch. Cottage was very clean - highly recommend. Purchasing 8 day car parking permit worked very well for Meadfoot car park and permit covers all Torbay Council car parks in Torquay, Paignton, Brixham areas except Union Lane. Would highly recommend The Waddling Duck at Babbacombe (10 mins drive) for Sunday Roast and evening meals.

Would have been perfect if not for the fleas.

I was covered from heas to toe every day, and my mother.. i went out and got creams ans sprays but did not help. Advise you to get flea bombs for place before new visitors.

Hi joff thanks for the links to car park but mead foot car park only lets you do a daily car park ticket on ring go app which is £10.

25.can’t use a bank card so would say download app before you get there.people we’re moaning when I was at ticket machine.needs to be made aware of this when booking to factor this in price of holiday. The location is great & lovely little cottage pubs 2 min walk down steps & loads of restaurants in harbour 5 min walk. Very dog friendly dog water bowls everywhere.

Hi all, Enjoyed our stay at the cottage overall.

We stayed here three years ago at a similar time of year and looked forward to returning. I would suggest that the property could do with a little bit of TLC. Walls and woodwork inside and out in the garden could do with a lick of paint and the kitchen utensils need a revamp. Cheers, Paul

Fab place 2 min harbour 10 min beach nice little garden to sit out to have a drink after a busy day out.

Well situated for all amenities. Joff seems very nice chap and helpful with parking,he was at the end of the phone had I needed luckily we had no reason to need him would highly recommend.

A very comfortable stay in a cute little cottage, the location is ideal for the harbour and shops of Torquay, the only criticism we had is that the shower lacked any power other than that a lovely stay.

We had such a nice time staying in the cottage.

It was quaint and comfortable. We would highly recommend staying her. Plus we would stay there again ourselves.

Shower needs updating as quite poor quality, fixtures, etc and heated towel rail?

This cottage is a lovely place to stay, location is fantastic, very close to the town.

The cottage was lovely and clean and very comfortable with everything you need for the perfect stay. Others have mentioned the stairs and they are quirky but perfectly manageable. Joff was a perfect host and communicated every step of the way offering tips on where to unload and park and how to apply for a car park permit which was a great idea, worked out really well for the week, a lovely chap. All in all a great place.

Lovely cottage.

.Great location. Just a few minutes walk to the harbour. Safe and secure patio for our dog. We bought a £50 permit at the car park located 2 minutes from the cottage and used buses and trains to have a real restful break. Would definitely book with Sykes again. Thank you!

Lovely cottage and great location and car park down the road.

The orange tree restaurant staff very noisey when open, lots of shouting and banging but not cottage owners fault. Could do with a gate at top of stairs as very narrow when going to bathroom at night could easily fall. Owner always at end of phone if needed we would definitely stay again thank you

Great little cottage right near the seafront so easy access to walks and shops,parked at local car park around the corner which was easy to find and safe .

A lovely cottage, very clean and had everything you needed well stocked kitchen and the owner kindly left wine and fudge.

A good position in the town as you could comfortably walk in to the main part of town where there was a good selection of shops and restaurants.

Lovely cottage very clean and close to harbour Would have been nice to have parking permit so you could park closer but the exercise area for dogs was close to council car park so not a problem Stair case is tight when carrying stuff up and down But are stay was great and we enjoyed are winter break

Hi, the cottage was very clean and situated in a great position near Torquay harbour and bars but also was in a quiet, off road street.

There were a few steps up but that is the nature of Torquay. My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed here and was great for us but if I had a small child or elderly relative the stairs and very small landing would be a worry. We had a T.V. with Netflix but the streaming service never worked for us whilst we were there, not too bothered as we were out all day. I would recommend staying here .

The property is in a great position, easy to access, and parking was easy, much better to buy ticket in main car park, not on line.

Every thing you need for your stay is provided, the internet was very poor most of the time, and the only complaint that we have is the double mattress is like sleeping on concrete, this maybe to some ones liking but not mine.

Lovely little cottage, very centrally located in Torquay town centre.

We were left a thoughtful gift of a bottle of wine, fudge and a dog toy on arrival by the owner, Joff. The cottage was clean and the white decor maximised the space and made it feel fresh. It was the perfect size as a base for our party of two adults, one teenager and our dog. I would have been slightly apprehensive about the stairs in the property if I’d been staying with a very young child, as they are fairly exposed at the top of the landing. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and opened out onto a patio area which was nice to sit out on. If, like us, your dog will only toilet on grass, there is a park about 5 minutes from the cottage called ‘Torwood Gardens’. To find it, turn right when you come out on the road, walk past the doctors surgery and Trinity House and walk along Torwood Gardens Road. We would definitely return to this delightful property.

The cottage itself was pretty much as described and met our needs.

Unfortunately the cottage stairs were very very steep and not at all compatible with my elderly Mum! As were the very hilly surrounding areas. The car park was also a problem as although I had purchased a week long parking permit, I was loath to move the car as the car park was very small and there were no guarantees you would get a space! Sadly we found the surrounding streets very dirty with litter and the actual entrance to get to the cottage was also sadly quite rundown and lacking any care and attention. The landlord was very friendly and helpful and the wine, fudge and dog toys were a nice touch. Not in a hurry to return to Torquay again.

An enjoyable stay.

Close to town and the harbour, nice patio for sitting out. Quiet area and everything needed was provided. Only one observation, it would have been nice to have some cushions for the outside seating. Other than that all good.

It’s the perfect location for exploring some of the salubrious seaside towns the area has to offer. Tucked away on a quiet street, you’d be forgiven for not knowing the main harbour was only a few minutes walk away. Helpful owner, nice clean property. All in all a lovely holiday.

In the description of the cottage it didn't say any thing about steps you had to go up to before you got to the cottage we had to carry our dogs up them and they were quite slippy, then you have to go through a patio of another cottage before you get to Harbour side.

The patio area could of done with being jet washed. The Cottage was fine but it was not as clean as I thought it would be, and the floor in the living area one of the pieces had lifted and I nearly feel over . The mattress was hard the pillows were not comfortable so we didn't sleep well. This is why I have only given it a low score. The welcome bottle of wine fudge and dog toys was a nice touch.

The town and harbour were close by and great to walk our dog. The courtyard garden was really secure for the dog as well and a lovely sun trap to sit outside. A welcome gift of wine, fudge and a rope toy for our dog was a kind and thoughtful touch. Thoroughly enjoyed our week.

The cottage was beautiful, clean and well presented, smaller than it appeared in the photos.

But lovely The owner left welcoming gifts for us and our dogs- a lovely touch. He even gave us parking permits to use as parking was a nightmare. We went for a week not realising Bank Holiday, power boat racing and Pirate weekend all took place on the first weekend- made parking even more difficult Convenient location, clean and comfortable but be careful of the stairs- very steep!

very clean. everything you needed was available.nice gesture of the wine and fudge even a treat for the dog from the owners. nice little courtyard plenty of room and a sun trap too. would definitely return. car park only around the corner and safe enough. permit was well worth getting as covered a lot of areas we visited. would recommend the orange tree restaurant in front of the cottage for a nice fine dining meal

Harbourside cottage is in an excellent location just a few minutes walk in to the town of Torquay.

The cottage was clean and comfortable for a family of three. I would recommend this holiday home and would definitely use this accommodation again.

Welcome bottle of wine when we arrived. Smart tv easy to use.

Excellent small cottage, close to all that Torquay has to offer.

Clean, comfortable and fully equipped. The welcome gift of prosecco and fudge was a lovely touch as was the dog treat. I cannot wait to return.

.. great location situated couple of mins from Harbour with resturants, shops and bars very close by. Cottage was exceptionally clean, tidy and very well equipped. Owner was very welcoming and responsive with treat for dog, wine and fudge which was a nice touch on arrival. We will definately be returning in the future :-).

What a great base to explore Devon and Cornwall cottage was clean near to town parking not far from cottage and a short walk to town and habour had a great week weather wasn’t bad either .

We were welcomed with a bottle of wine & box of shortbread on arrival which immediately put in holiday mode! A brilliant location with everything on your doorstep but far enough back from the hustle and bustle to be lovely & quiet in the evenings. Shower was lovely, decor was pleasant & nautical. We will definitely be back!

Harbourside cottage was fantastic, a home from home with everything you could possibly think of.

The cottage is only a few minutes away from the town centre and harbour via a little short cut over the road. Joff the owner was lovely and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us telling us where the best place to eat and go making sure we had the best holiday. It’s also dog friendly so worked brilliantly for me, I can’t wait to go back next year hopefully.

Fantastic central location and the terrace is an afternoon suntrap.

The stairs are a tad steep, but then unless you are fairly mobile you wouldn't do Torquay, built on 7 hills.

Joff was the perfect host and onhand whenever we needed advice; he even brought us wine!

Harbourside Cottage is a beautifully presented property and was really comfortable for our group (Mum, Dad and a Teenager).

The location is great with lots of pubs/restaurants/shops in walking distance. Joff the host was really helpful answering queries and advising on parking etc.

....the hole in the wall, the oldest pub in torquay served great food and had a great atmosphere, we had a great stay

Great location.

Very close to the harbour with plenty of bars and restaurants and boat trips to explore a bit further afield. Either a walk up hill and steps, walking past the oldest pub in Torquay or follow the road round which isn't so steep. Fitted out with everything you would need in the cottage and really clean and comfortable. A nice little patio area with seating to sit out when the sun's shining. Would definitely use again if back in Torquay some time.

Great location for a break to Torquay.

No need to use car for days exploring Torquay. Lovely cottage, clean comfortable and all utensils you need if you want to cook in. Was very quiet considering near a restaurant and bars on next street. Thank you Joff for all the information you sent prior to our holiday. Would recommend this cottage to couples needing a nice relaxing break.

Lovely cottage, had everything we needed.

On our arrival we found we had been left some welcome gifts, a bottle of wine, box of fudge, 3 tennis balls for the dogs and a bottle of milk in the fridge, a very nice touch. Before our arrival we had a welcome text from the owners with clear, helpful instructions of where to park etc. The cottage is only a short walk away from the harbour where their are plenty of shops and nice walks. All in all, a very nice holiday, would definitely recommend a visit.

What an absolute gem of a cottage!

Everything you could possibly want and more is right here in this perfect holiday home...fully equipped, a very well received welcome gift and the friendliest owner you could wish for. The location of this property is superb...shops, restaurants and the seafront are all within easy walking distance. A lovely area to sit outside with a beer or two, the comfiest bed ever and the decor is super tasteful. I'm so happy to have found this beautiful cottage and will be returning again and again!

The cottage was lovely and everything we needed.

The bed was the most comfy we have slept in away from home. The location was great as it’s really close to the harbour. Nice to have outside space to, which is sunny in the afternoon/evening. Our 3 year old loved the place and settled in straight away.

Property itself is nicely located, a stones throw from the harbour, so easy stroll to the shops, pubs and eateries.

Unfortunately it faces the back of a busy restaurant kitchen so expect the noise of cutlery and plates being scraped into bins along with general noise from the staff until midnight. The shower is very weak and oddly situated at an angle, making showering very awkward. The rest of the property is well equipped and beds very comfortable. Kitchen is tiny but has everything you'd need. Great welcome pack of wine, fudge and choccy wafers. Lastly there's an obvious slope in the laminate flooring from the kitchen into the lounge with a bit of wood propping an edge up, a possible trip hazard. Overall good though.

It was lovely and clean and cozy and our 5 year old was impressed when he discovered we were able to watch netflicks! It was within walking distance of shops, car parks and beach. We had a phone call from the owner on the day of arrival which we appreciated and were left lovely gifts to start our holiday. Would definitely recommend, thank you.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage would reccomend the place to anyone as its in an ideal posistion within walking distance for both the harbour and town, will definately reboot asap

It is a nice, little cottage in the second line, very near to the harbour.

There are Pubs and clubs and stores...you can reach everything you need by foot. The cottage itself ist very nice and has a lot of facilities. However, a few small negative remarks need to be made: It is very small and narrow. You can just be in it with 3 adults. The skylight in the bathroom cannot be opened, so you always have a tropical climate there. Unfortunately, the cupboard was locked with the cleaning agents. Also a vacuum cleaner was not there. A glass bottle in the kitchen was broken on the floor, that was very tedious to clean. But they're just little things. The holiday home is a great address for a relaxing holiday on the English Riviera.

We were fortunate enough to be the first couple to visit this property.

It is a beautiful cottage just a stone throw away from the centre and harbour . It has been very tastefully decorated with exceptional beds and bedding. We were met by the owner (Joff) who could not have been more helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this property and we look forward to our next visit.
