  • "We stay in 2/3 cottages a year and would say, with some experience therefore, that this is one of the best cottages, if not the best, we have stayed in taking account of cost and excluding external factors (such as the awful weather!"

). A delightful, well-appointed and comfortable cottage that suited our needs ideally. Heather and David were very welcoming and available had we needed anything. A good location to combine trips to the nearby coast and Dartmoor.

We spent a week here in February with our two miniature schnauzers and despite the misty weather we managed to find time to get out onto the nearby Moor for a walk and visit the local stannary towns particularly Ashburton and Tavistock. Great location, lovely and comfortable.

  • "The converted Coach House has been completed to a high standard."

The owners were very welcoming and everything was as you would like to find it when you first arrive. The accommodation has all the appliances in the kitchen you would nee, including a washing machine and fridge and freezer. The living room is a big space complete with a log burner and large shelf supplied with maps, interesting books and board games. Location wise, the accommodation is set on a farm with its own private drive, Ivybridge is within 2 miles and has all your local convenience shops and a petrol station. Turning right at the end of the private drive and walking up a fairly steep hill takes you to a cattle crossing and gate which gives you access to the Dartmoor. The coach house has a parking port which for a standard sized length car keeps it dry with its own contained pitched roof. We took our two dogs and they loved the location, please understand that there is livestock on and near the farm and on the moors so please be responsible with your dogs. So many lovely places to visit within an hours drive from Ivybridge and lots of history with both the farm/coach house and within Ivybridge. Totally recommended, and we had the company of an owl which hooted most nights. Bliss with only the stream noise running and bird song. Looking forward to visiting again.

Heather and David on call if we needed anything (though not in any way intrusive). We are looking forward to returning next year. Katy and David

A lovely welcome from Heather and David, there to help you when you need it but also giving you the space to enjoy your break. The log fire is great and warms up the cottage very quickly when you come in from a walk in damp conditions. Would highly recommend this cottage it is cosy, comfortable and well equipped. Dartmoor is a few metres away and we enjoyed some wonderful walks on the moors among the sheep and cows! Our doggy certainly enjoyed the many varied walks and the little streams we found. You should enjoy walking we would suggest as it was wonderful being outside with nature. The cottage has everything you need and is well laid out. The outside courtyard is a real suntrap.

We didn’t realise we would be right on the doorstep of Dartmoor so we had some lovely walks which we weren’t expecting- it is well worth exploring. Although Ivybridge is only 5 minutes away with all the typical amenities the cottage itself feels like it is in the middle of nowhere- a real peaceful, tranquil location. Heather and David were fantastic hosts, they are close by in case of needing assistance, and David was a fascinating man to chat to, and much was learned and discovered from conversations. The coach house has a fascinating history, and has been renovated to such a lovely standard, it truly is beautiful and in the most stunning surroundings. The property is warm, comfortable, and has everything you would need for a stay, it truly is a home from home, we hear this alot but in Butterbrooks case it's very true, nothing was missing and everything was thought of and supplied. Excellent for walks and dog wanders, the surrounding land is stunning, it was so very difficult to leave! Can't wait to return for another stay in the near future, thank you so much for providing this little slice of heaven to hideaway for a week.

We loved staying in this pretty cottage. Warm and welcoming, we knew from the moment we were greeted by a jug of fresh spring flowers and generous welcome treats that we would have fun. Everything we needed was there, and spotlessly clean. Stunning design, and incredibly warm, (loved the log burner with plentiful supply of logs) comfortable and cosy. A truly magical place. Heather and David were exceptionally welcoming and kind. To be on a working farm in such a setting on Dartmoor was extraordinary. The Visitor’s book speaks for itself of happy holidays and so many wanting to return…… just as we do! For us it was a chance to be with our small Devon grandchildren. They showed us their favourite beach Mothercombe, where sadly we just missed The Gruffalo who they were pretty sure lived in the woods by the path down to the beach! The highlight for them was definitely meeting the hens that had laid their teatime boiled egg. Then watching David working Jess the sheepdog, and meeting the magnificent gentle giant of a Hereford bull. They will always remember that day. Thanks to Heather and David for a really happy break. A beautiful quiet location with direct access to the moor and facilities nearby. My only slight negative is that it is more dog tolerant than dog friendly as dogs aren’t allowed upstairs or on the sofas (not aware of this at the time of booking) so it was hard on us and the dogs to begin with as they are used to cuddling up; the courtyard has no grassy area for a late night squeak (my dogs won’t go on concrete) Every kitchen item/utensil is available and well thought out and Heather left a lovely bottle of red wine, some fresh eggs and beautiful flowers for our arrival. Would definitely recommend this property - I would rate this 9.5/10

About the location

IVYBRIDGE

Plymouth 12 miles.

Often referred to as the ‘Gateway to South Dartmoor’, Ivybridge is set in one of the most beautiful areas of Devon and provides the perfect base from which to explore the county’s glorious coast and countryside. The town’s namesake, the Ivy Bridge, is a 13th century construction originally designed for packhorses and widened during the age of coach travel. Nowadays, it is a popular landmark on the town’s Heritage Trail, which also takes in other noteworthy historical buildings, such as a paper mill which remains Ivybridge’s major industrial employer. Some of the most architecturally pleasing sights in the town are the aqueduct, now a listed site, and the much photographed remains of a viaduct built by Brunel. This riverside town offers a great local shopping experience, with a variety of independent shops in the compact town centre making browsing a pleasure. When it’s time for a break, take your pick from the many cafés, tearooms and bakeries in the covered arcade serving delicious food and treats to help you recharge your batteries! Just on the brink of Dartmoor National Park, Ivybridge is ideally located to explore the 368 square miles of rolling hills, rugged granite outcrops and fresh, clean air. With over 450 miles of public rights of way, you’ll find enough walks to keep you busy for a year, let alone a week! If you’d like to mix it up a bit, cycling, horse-riding, climbing and kayaking opportunities abound. Nearby Wembury is the starting point for the Two Moors Way, a 201 mile coast to coast walking route which passes through Ivybridge and continues on through high moorland and deep wooded valleys, taking in some of Devon’s most unspoilt rural scenery. At 17 miles long, the Erme-Plym Trail is slightly shorter and leads in the opposite direction through some pleasant countryside, passing the pretty Hooe Lake en route. The area surrounding Ivybridge offers a fabulous variety of attractions and days out, from the stunning beaches of the South Devon coast, to the bustling city of Plymouth.
