  • "Lovely cottage in great location."

Feel parking could have been a real issue, especially in high season. We did enjoy our stay, thank you. Did expect the log burner as it stated until March, perhaps would be more accurate to state till end of February.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay at Coastguard Cottage. Parking can be tricky in the area but this property is lucky to have shared parking with the other properties and this works well even in the high season. We are sorry that the log burner was not in use during your stay, this has now been corrected on the website to show the correct availability. We hope you enjoyed everything the area has to offer and that you come and visit again soon. Coast & Country Cottages, on behalf of Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our holiday staying in Coastguard cottage."

It was cosy but spacious enough for our family of four with two teenagers and Betsy the Cavapoo. The cottage is well fitted out to feel like a home rather than a hotel. The location is perfect to enjoy tranquil living but with Dartmouth a ferry away and Paignton just down the road for those all important food supplies. There are great walks from the cottage without using the car. All in all it was a wonderful experience which no doubt we will repeat in the future. Thanks to Steve and Francoise for your excellent communication during our stay.

Thank you so much for your kind comments . You will be most welcome to stay in our Cottage anytime. It was a pleasure to communicate with you during your stay. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is incredibly well equipped, beautifully maintained and in a superb location."

The owner made me so welcome and was very helpful with fitting the booking in at very short notice ! This is such a lovely cottage - I am house hunting in the area at present, and so,the best recommendation from me would be to say that I would happily purchase the cottage if it were available !

We were so pleased that we could accommodate you Stuart and you are most welcome to come back in the future. Good luck with your house hunting Property Owner

The locale is not just beautiful but blissfully peaceful. The property represents good value for money in my opinion and we would definitely visit again.

Thank you for your positive comment. We are pleased you enjoyed your second stay in our cottage to explore what the local area has to offer. Property Owner

  • "I'm glad you will share this with the property owner perhaps they will take heed and sort the issues out."

    1. They ask you to leave the property as you find it clean and tidy....yep it was tidy but it definitely was not clean - it was grubby, especially the kitchen - sticky kitchen cupboard handles, dirty plates, cutlery etc. They urge you to clean everything on a 30min wash as that should be enough for a daily wash - this is the reason why every piece of cutlery, plate had to be cleaned before we could use. Great after a 3 hour drive the need to clean a kitchen. At least the bathroom was spotless - but very small for a family of 4. 2. The cottage is old with peeling paintwork, dirty walls and an infestation of moths. We walked into the cottage and it just smelt damp - perhaps we are the first for a while to use it but couldn't they air the place? 3. Strict instructions on use of dishwasher, use of wall sockets, heating water etc etc. Fine, I get it, energy and water are expensive but I've just spent over £1000 for a week away - I am on holiday. I am not going to be frivolous with energy or water and I don't need to be spoken to as if I am a child. Your instructions in general are meant to be helpful but you are coming across as condescending and why do that? Surely, you want us to be happy to stay again? 4. The stair rail was dirty at the top - years of hand marks, just like the doors - they simply have not been cleaned. 5. Whoever does the cleaning also likes to hoover around the centre of carpets and not edges. 6. The beds and bed linen were good quality. 7. The garden area is great but we did not use the BBQ (too fearful that we would not clean it well enough and get charged) just sat outside. You should cut back the hedge that is besides the path up to the front door as it made it really difficult to get our luggage in and out of the property. 8. The mirror in the living room has not been cleaned properly (smeared around the edges and on the right-hand side) and all the chinaware etc in the alcoves of the living room have a layer of dust on them. The windows certainly haven't been cleaned for a while. 9. You don't really have on-street parking even if you wish to claim it is - it nearly cost us our clutch, so we parked in the Marina at £8 for every 24 hours. So would we stay here again? Good location, great views, so my husband would but then he didn't have to clean the kitchen before the start of the holiday. Also, we've stayed in lots of different holiday homes and had far better facilities for this type of price - not even a welcome bag with tea/coffee, a pint of milk, some goodies showcasing the local foods? You should consider finding space for a washer-dryer as well. This is the first holiday we have taken with Sykes holiday cottages and have another one booked at the end of August - so a bit concerned about the quality of that holiday cottage - we shall see. We are nothing but a normal family who have holidayed many times in cottages across Devon, Dorset and Cornwall without incident - always kept a place clean and tidy etc and been back to some of those cottages year after year but we won't return here because of the issues above.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback for your stay at Coastguard Cottage. We are really pleased to read that you enjoyed the location and views the property has to offer, it really is a special area with spectacular views. We were also really pleased to read that you enjoyed parts of the property including the beds, bedding and the garden. We do wish these points regarding the cleanliness had been raised during your stay as we would have been able to organise the cleaner to reattend to ensure the property met our usual standards. We can confirm these points have been looked at by the owners on their visit’s and believe this may have been a blip in an otherwise good run of happy guests. If we had heard from you during your stay we also would have been able to speak with yourselves regarding the parking difficulties you faced as unfortunately the parking can be awkward in the area, the owner has asked us to amend the listing to ensure that guests are aware of this along with the information the owner’s send out before arrival. It is also not the owner’s intention for the instructions to come across as strict but more to raise awareness of the increased costs of utilities and to think about usage beforehand but we are sorry if this came across differently than intended. We hope you still enjoyed your stay in Kingswear at Coastguard Cottage. Property Owner

  • "The location of the cottage is perfect, with fantastic views and gardens and the added bonus of parking."

The cottage was comfortable enough and well equipped. However, for the price charged, the cottage did feel cluttered and a bit neglected. The bathroom could certainly benefit from a deep clean and internally the cottage would benefit from redecoration. That said, we enjoyed our stay.

So pleased you appreciated what the the cottage has to offer. We visit regularly with our family and it is as we like it and spend time improving and cleaning what is an old cottage. Re decoration has been planned for this winter. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage."

Only 2 of us so no fine for us but would have been a bit cramped if more. Lovely view. Good shower, and well equipped for everything you need. Clean, beds very comfy. Possible things to consider (just constructive feedback as was nothing wrong with it but would just improve stay): Not as clear on sykes website about the parking issue having to reverse up a very tight steep hill in a big car, also not as well advertised that is very hilly. Maybe a welcome hamper/milk would be nice. 2nd sofa is needed I think as the little chairs not as comfy for relaxing in. Maybe ask your cleaner to take the recycling rubbish rather than your guests having to do it.

  • "An enjoyable week despite poor weather."

Thank goodness for a warm/comfortable cottage. Our timing was unfortunate as the tide was out in the creek each daytime so looking out on a mud river bed. Obviously the traffic is a problem, one-way system and parking. Thank goodness I didn't have to reverse into that parking space, my husband's reversing up the slope improved by the day! We know this was made clear in the holiday details and the info Steve fwd. to us on how to find the cottage was invaluable and far more detailed than Sykes. Thank you
