  • "We enjoyed our recent stay at Greenslades, it was wet and dreary weather most of the week, mind you it's mid Nov and on Exmoor so to be expected."

So it was nice to get back to a warm and cosy cottage after each day out. Although there's two woodstoves we only used the smaller dining area one for background warm, as the main central heating was excellent. We found everything we needed for our stay was provided, bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. A home from home.

Thanks for the feedback. So pleased you had an enjoyable stay and stayed warm and cosy despite the weather. Property Owner

It was perfect for our family gathering with everything we needed, comfortable beds and just that lovely home from home feeling. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, so had drinks and meals outside, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the lovely garden and surrounding area. Wonderful walks from the house and an easy walk or cycle ride down to the village for supplies and a cheeky pint.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Greenslades but attention to detail is probably not acute as the front door glass was grubby and the pots outside had no flowers and the front garden looked rather neglected."

... having said that it was homely and welcoming and the cake left for us was delicious and very welcome.... one thing we felt was that the step down from the kitchen to the front door was VERY steep and needed another 2nd step which could easily be done... my husband has terminal cancer and is rather wobbly on his legs and found that step difficult as would people with toddlers and elderly?! I feel also that the site needs to state that this property is not suitable for people with mobility issues as the steps and steep slope to and from it are very hard! BUT we did spend a very happy 4 days there in a very beautiful area...... thank you!

I am pleased that you had a lovely holiday at Greenslades. We are not able to get pots watered every day during the summer months but they are planted with bulbs and look pretty in the spring. I am sorry that your husband found the steps and steep slope difficult. Sykes description states that the house is on a hill and that there are a few steps down from the drive to the back door. We echo this in our welcome letter and advise that you can access the front door to unload to the ground floor. The step from the kitchen to the front door is slightly deeper than the stairs but any additional step would impede opening the front door so this is not a change we can implement. Very best wishes to you both dealing with the cancer and all the accompanying difficulties. Property Owner

  • "This holiday was perfect!"

The booking, payment, key collection and information process was seamlessly easy. Greenslades Cottage was absolutely gorgeous in every way: a beautiful property, with every possible need provided for. There was a large chocolate cake, a litre of milk in the fridge, and two vases of daffodils for us when we arrived. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful, with big comfy beds, excellent power showers and lovely bath sheets provided. There was plenty of room for all of us (.5 adults, 2 children and a large dog) and everything was spotlessly clean. It was early March and one day there were 5 inches of snow, but the cottage was always warm and cosy There was plenty of fire wood provided for the burners in the sitting room and dining room, but we didn't need to use it. None of us wanted to leave, so we would definitely recommend Greenslades to others and the Sykes company for their efficient and accurate operation.

The house is very well equipped and proved an excellent base for our plan to walk the Coleridge Way. The log fire in the living room was great for a cosy evening with a glass of wine and a book. Sadly the weather was not warm enough in the evening for us to enjoy the pretty garden with its outlook over the fields, but on a warm day it would be delightful.

Hi Your trip was at such a difficult time with the power outage in the village but my letter to you before your arrival did include the following at para 6: "The house is on a hill and there are a few steps down from the drive to the back door to the house. If this is a problem for any of your party or for unloading the car, then having opened up the house you can unlock the front door and temporarily park in the road to unpack and allow easier access to the ground floor. Even the two fires were pre-made just to be lit from the generous first supply of logs that were left for us, which on a cold and wet January week was very welcome. There was a small maintenance problem while we stayed, the owners attitude to fixing it directly, quickly and working around our stay couldn’t have been better, always great to know this support is there if anything does stop working on your stay, in direct contrast with some previous other cottage experiences.

Nowhere in your description did you mention the steep steps from the drive to the house, nor did you mention the steps between the kitchen and lounge or the fact that it was on a hill. We wouldn't have chosen this house if we had realised. The house was indeed very comfortable with nice bedding and showers and plenty of room for all of us and a lovely position in the countryside. We also had problems locating the house when we arrived. Admittedly we were tired after a long drive but were looking for the house going by the picture and did not realise we should have taken the left fork and not follow the road.

  • "Despite some awful weather this did not detract from the rural setting of this cottage, if you want to get away from it all this is the place."

Just far enough out of the village to be secluded. It was great to experience what real darkness is and listen to the country nightlife. The local owls make you smile and the buzzards in the early morning are a treat and i am sure on a really quiet still morning the deer can be heard in the distance at this time of year. Yes you need a car but being in the center of the national park all roads lead somewhere and each one takes you across the moors in a different direction with always something to see.

Exford is renowned for fishing and riding, with the village hosting a horse show every August. The largest herd of wild red deer in England and Exmoor’s unique wild ponies roam the moors just above and around Exford, as they have done since the time of the Domesday Book. Guided walks with a National Park Ranger take place throughout the summer, and Exmoor is home to Lorna Doone and Tarka the otter, it is a place of rolling hills, medieval villages, such as Dunster with its castle, wild moors and a dramatic coastline. The coastal towns of Lynmouth, Porlock and Minehead are only a short drive from Exford and there are a variety of beaches along the coast, consisting of sandy and shingle beaches, plus some are ideal for surfing and body boarding. In 2011 Exmoor National Park was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first place in Europe to achieve this prestigious award and only the second in the world.
