  • "Just returned from a lovely weeks stay at the farm with all the family, with ages ranging from 1-63yrs old."

The farmhouse itself is beautiful, in an incredible setting. Our children loved seeing and meeting all the animals and the hosts were incredibly welcoming. Would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to return one day!

Everything as described and there was nothing that the farmhouse didn't have. Family were friendly and informative and we particularly enjoyed the farm tour and watching the cows being milked and the calves being fed. The weather wasn't the best but that didn't affect our stay. Will be back again soon.

  • "This was a fantastic holiday let with added farm experience for the adults and children."

The house is really well equipped and there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't in the cupboards or easily available. The teenager appreciated the games room and the younger children were happy to play on the ride on toys and in the stream for hours. The dishwasher and washing machine both got good workouts while we were there! Highlight for most of the party was watching the birth of a calf. Everyone on the farm was really helpful and happy to answer any of our questions.

It was lovely being able to sit around the table as a family. The views were amazing, waking up to the sound of cows and sheep every day. The owners were very welcoming. The children loved seeing the farm and having a look around, seeing the calves. The games room was used most days. The outside play area was great for the kids too. Lots of space so not under each others feet. Would definitely recommend to others. Had an fabulous time.

It’s a beautiful setting. Sally and Andrew were on hand and helpful throughout our week there . The house was well equipped and suited our needs. The children loved having the space and outdoor area to play. We were lucky to get a tractor ride with Andrew (as he was very busy) and quad bike ride with grandad that the children will remember forever! We had a farm tour and saw the cows being milked. Would definitely recommend

  • "Lovely big place, well kept, big rooms, huge well equipped, stone floored kitchen with large table and lots of crockery/cutlery for all."

Furniture and kitchen in keeping with it being an old farmhouse. Inevitably the floors are a bit uneven in places, but an 80 year old managed fine. Briliiant to see several swallows (and other birds) nesting around the building. We were all adults, but would be great for a family with the play area and the games room (and the almost Narnia sized wardrobes) The hosts were generous with some milk and eggs provided on arrival. Loved the surrounding countryside and pretty villages, however any drivers do need to be confident on narrow deep lanes, with passing places. Easily parked 3 cars on site. Really enjoyed our stay.

This was our second visit. Flexible accommodation and the hosts called us a few days before to ask how we wanted the beds made up, ie as singles, double. Everything we needed and it was great to have access to the washing machine to lessen the load on the return home. Eggs and necessities were left for us on arrival to see us through. Lots of space, very warm, with a huge kitchen that comfortably sat us all for meals. The farm is quite remote and so very quiet with fantastic night skies. Andrew was very happy for us to roam at will with our dogs over his 400 acres which was a real treat. The description says 6 bathrooms - we could only find 5 (!) but that was enough! And a knife sharpener and pair of scissors would have been useful in the kitchen!

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We confirm the property has 5 bathroom, as shown on the property floorplan as well. The owner also has confirmed there is a knife sharpener and a pair of scissor in the kitchen. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed Hornshayne Farmhouse. We have taken your comments on board. The indoor and outdoor space was like being in another world and we were told we could roam freely through barns and fields and see the cows being milked and the maternity unit where we met some adorable calves. The peace and quiet has been bliss, the weather perfect where you could look up and see the stars at night. The whole family has so much knowledge on it's history, the children have a smile and a wave for you every day. We can't wait to come back to this beautiful home. Thank you so much to everyone.

On arrival the kids were amazed to see the stream and the play area and all of the garden toys and they spent many hours just playing in the garden. They also loved it when the dogs appeared! The fussball table and games room were enjoyed by all. Sally and Andrew were very welcoming and we were given lots of information about the farm and the local area and were able to roam around and go onto the farm to see the cows being milked and look at the pigs, calves, chickens and sheep. It was lovely having cows and sheep in the fields in front of the house to watch while you sat at the table having breakfast. The Sykes info told us that we needed to bring tea towels and oven gloves, which were actually provided at the house so no need to pack those in your luggage! I didn’t find a hairdryer but we had brought one along. It was great to have the washing machine and dryer to use, especially as we don’t have one at home at the moment due to building work, and they came in useful when we got caught in a downpour while doing a bit of fishing in the stream. The house is out in the peaceful Devon countryside but within easy driving distance of Sidmouth, Lyme Regis etc. With supermarkets in Sidmouth and Honiton to stock up for your stay. We had a fantastic time and definitely plan to return soon.

There are lots of things to keep the children happy and the play area is brilliant, but the bark on the ground seems to have been replaced with what I can only describe as small bits of wood. The problem is that there are very sharp bits of wood and two of the children came down the slide and scratched the back of their legs. As we had a two year old we were always worried he would fall and get spells in his hands or worse. It’s a great place to have a family holiday and the amenities are brilliant. The children loved walking around the farm and we even saw a calf being born which was really special. The children absolutely loved Maud the Spanial, when she heard our cars pulling in the drive she came straight round to the house and stayed with us until bed time, a very sweet and gentle dog.

With ancient origins, it is a characterful and welcoming house for friends and families of all ages.

The sitting room is a cosy room with an electric fire.

In true country style, the kitchen is huge and at the hub of the house with a Rayburn, a lovely room to gather and socialise in.

This is a great house for the children, with toys in the playroom and a tiny games room.

Upstairs, the five bedrooms ramble over three levels, as high as the attic.

Outside you are welcome to help feed the calves and enjoy the miles of unspoiled countryside with a river for paddling and tiddler fishing, ponds, great views and walks and quiet roads.

In the pretty garden, shared with the owners, is a picnic table, barbecue, giant draughts, shallow stream, play castle, sandpit and Wendy house.

To complete the idyllic family scene is a fun games barn.

There is plenty on this lovely farm to keep you occupied, but if you choose to venture further afield there are the Blackdown Hills to explore, the Seaton Tramway for rides through a nature reserve and the fossil hunting beaches of the Jurassic Coast.
