  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Awdry Bungalow."

It had all the facilities we needed, and the drinks and the items in the fridge were a nice touch. The only reason I haven't given full marks for cleanliness was the dog hairs on the rug from a previous occupant. Otherwise it was fine.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you had a nice stay. Unfortunately despite several cleans, the hairs on the rug have not come up and I have now bought a new rug to replace it. Thank you for letting me know. Property Owner

Enjoyed the break. Found this holiday through a search for dog friendly places. Great walking trails and lovely by the stream.

  • "We arrive after a long journey to be totally disappointed with the property."

It looked messy from the outside and the adjoining building was in a state of disrepair. Awdry Bungalow had a number of broken pots with dead plants in(no living plants) on the decking, There was a box on the wall which was dirty and next doors brambles had overgrown. My Husband cut them back so we could sit outside. On entering the property we found the smallest of wardrobes for 2 people. I always have a tape measure in my bag as I sew. The wardrobe was 16" wide with 2 small drawers (half a tall boy) but 1 drawer had a blanket in it,leaving the wardrobe and 1 drawer to use. You lived out of your case, which had to be pushed under the bed, which also had stuff already under it. The bed gave me chronic back pain, due it the mattress overhanging 7" . The base was far too small for the mattress and you ended up being rolled into the middle. On other reviews people had also complained about this,so wondering why has nothing been done about it. There was also mould on the blind in the bedroom. Kitchen cupboards with padlocks ,which limits your use. A dishwasher with an out of order sign, a larder unit full of owners cleaning materials, while you don't mind a brush or hoover. you don't expect to see weedol, especially as outside clearly hadn't seen any weedol! The shower was a hose yourself down, though the tilt in the ceiling doesn't really allow for this. The bathroom window(mentioned in other reviews) still needs renewing. The boxing in around the toilet is all damaged and needs repairing and painting. There is a globe light with loads of tape on the base area to stop it being plugged it. Why not just remove it ,as its ugly to see. There are also cups in the kitchen with sayings on such as "fulking Hill, Tickled Cock, Golden balls" more of an owners personal taste, than mine, or a holiday let. There were signs all over the bungalow which show the owners lack of interest in their property. Red paint on white wall, where it would only take a few minutes to touch it up. I can understand the other reviews now, though I expected something would have been done about it. Unfortunately not! Wouldn't recommend or stay again.I have Photographs I can send of all I have commented about, though no place to upload them. Ruth and Jules

I am sorry that your stay did not meet with your expectations and my bungalow was not to your taste. Unfortunately a lot of the difficulties you encountered seems to be due to the small size of the bungalow; there simply isn't enough space for a larger wardrobe or more storage. This is a very small bungalow and the images on the website show its facilities and amenities as they are. The mattress has now been replaced, as has the bedroom blind. A new bathroom window has been ordered to be fitted. Property Owner

  • "Enjoyed our stay at Awdry Bungalow, clean and tidy."

Appreciated the goodies that were left for us. My only gripe was the mattress was slightly too large for the wooden base and overlapped the edge, creating a slight slope on the side which I slept. Came home with an achy neck because of sleeping awkwardly. As a couple we are starting to get on a little we found the bath not too easy to exit. But not really too much of a problem as we swam most mornings and showered at the excellent swimming pool.. Overall we had a great holiday, thank you.

  • "When we got to our destination we had trouble finding the accommodation it was dark and the signage could not be seen as there was no lights anywhere it was by chance that we parked in the right place as the sign only had number ten and not awdry cottage as we was looking for that ."

There is bad condencertion in the bathroom even when not in use the water is running down the sistern on the toilet, the window in the bathroom needs attention, and could do with a handle to get in and out of the bath specifically as we are older and not so agile, I'm sure it was an oversight but the decorating material was still under the bed ,the mattress was uncomfortable because the base off the bed was small for it so it made it uneven and uncomfortable hence we ended up with bad backs as we was sleepingon a slant, and there is a leak under the kitchen sink . I know the next door bangalore has nothing to do with awdry cottage but it makes it unsitly, apart from them issues it was clean and well equipped except for a fresh coffee cafeteria and a tea pot for I love my tea and she love coffee . It would have been good to be told the pool would be open as we was told that it would be closed hence we did not bring swimming attire so no swimming for us. But the place is so peaceful and relaxing that we still enjoy our stay even do it rain most of the time but that's just British weather The laundry facilities very good washing machine and dryer Would stay there again if the issues that I have mentioned is fixed specifically the bed as we all like a good night sleep . Amanda

Thank you for your feedback. I have taken this into account and now have a new sign on the front, which is much more visible than the old sign. A new mattress has now been fitted as well. Thank you for alerting me to the leak, this has been fixed and a new bathroom window has been ordered to try to reduce the condensation in the bathroom. You are absolutely right that in the UK there needs to be a tea pot! There is no cafetiere, but instead an Aeropress for making coffee - once you try it you never go back! Property Owner

The place it self was ok but we were put off with items under the bed and hid behind the sofa Also the mattress didn’t fit the bed so you rolled to one side and wasn’t comfy at all It was a bit of a pain waiting for the water to heat up to have a bath, you expect constant hot water these days Also the outside furniture full of mould should really be covered or cleaned when the place is being rented would have been nice and the decking needs Re doing with slip retardant stain as was a hazard even with the signs Nice gesture of bits of food left and toiletries and the place was clean Just a bit tired

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that your stay wasn't as perfect as I would expect. Unfortunately, being in the Devon countryside we are not on a gas pipeline and therefore instant hot water is impossible; equally, outside furniture does very quickly pick up lichen and although this is thoroughly cleaned with herbicides several times a year it's one of the features of the region. I will look into using a cover as suggested. Decking strips are shortly being added. I am not sure why the cottage appeared "tired" as I am a new owner and completely redecorated and purchased all new furnishings only within the last 9 months. The items under the bed are for the use of guests, for example a dog bed and dog towels, spare bedding and an additional bedding set for the sofa bed in case this is required. Property Owner

  • "Perfect place for a relaxing break."

Lovely little bungalow. This last visit was our second this year. Both out of the holiday season so it was beautifully quiet and we had the pool to ourselves! On site caretaker, Paul, smashing bloke! Really friendly and helpful. Will certainly go again and will recommend it to anyone we speak to.

  • "A lovely cosy little bungalow on a tucked away site."

Swimming pool was great.....out of holiday season so we had it to ourselves! Just the relaxing break we needed. Awdry bungalow is in a good position, no properties in front of it so perfect view down to the lake. Nice walk along the Ruby Way, might bring the bikes next time.
