  • "An amazing location next to the creek, with views of egrets and cormorants from the windows."

However the listing states two kingsize beds, but they are both only doubles. My husband is 6 feet tall and had very uncomfortable nights, especially as both beds have foot boards too. Also the cottage would benefit from a thorough deep clean. The owners also need to look at the remote control for the dvd player (which we eventually found behind one of the cupboards) . Despite putting new batteries in, it still didn't work. A shame as there is a huge selection of films to choose from. Other than that it is well equipped and beautifully located.

  • "We have just got back from a wonderful 4 nights at Creekside."

The pictures do not do it justice at all, it is a stunning area with beautiful views across the creek . The bungalow is fully equipped with everything you could need including a great selection of games for the rainy days. The dog loved the garden and sitting on the decking watching the world pass her by. The only thing we would have changed is the length of our stay so we have just booked for 7 nights next year .

Thanks very much for your kind review. It is difficult to show the beauty of the creek in pictures. We are delighted you have booked for next year- thank you! Property Owner

Unfortunately the weather changed so we couldn’t sit outside after all. Every thing was there and it was all good quality although we did eat out each day. My friend wants to go there again next year with her daughter. Definitely a property to return to.

We are sorry to hear there was a problem with the door. I'm pleased it was fixed, and that otherwise you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again! Property Owner

Many thanks for your feedback. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. I will check the window draught you have mentioned and find the source and fix it. Being on the creek it can get strong winds so the seals need to work! Property Owner

  • "Had an awesome holiday at Creekside."

Loved your bungalow and its amazing location. Thank you for the welcome biscuits for us and our dog. We brought out blow up kayak which proved so easy to launch from your steps down to the creek. I don’t think your photos advertising your property do it justice at all. We would be very happy to share some of our photos and videos with you and Sykes holidays to enhance your profile if you wish - just let us know.

Thanks so much for your kind feedback. You're right about the photos- they don't show how close to the water Creekside is- so I've taken some more and they will go on the site shortly. Very pleased you enjoyed your stay- and thanks for coming. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic place in a fabulous setting."

Would have given full stars for everything if the heating hadn't been on without us being able to change the settings. Had to wait until after the Bank Holiday (3 days) to phone the maintenence company. They didn't know about the heating system. Later that day I received a surprise email from them asking for photos of the Nest control. I duly sent the photos, but didn't get a response. I called again the following day to be told that the person I'd spoken to wasn't working that day. I received a call back later that day to say the heating had finally been turned off. It was great to have plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses and well equipped kitchen. It would have been nice to have been able to open the bathroom and lounge main windows, but there were no keys specifically for those windows. It would also have been good to have blinds on the kitchen windows by the table. A minor maintenance issue - the water doesn't stay in the ensuite washbasin. It would have ben good to have had a handle to help get in and out of the bath. We had a very able-bodied older person with us, but they didn't feel comfortable getting in and out of the bath for showers. There were no anti-slip mats for use in the baths. Having said all that it is a fantastic location and very comfortable accommodation.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are pleased you liked the house but very sorry you had heating problems and some of the window lock keys were missing. We have identified the heating control problem and believe it shouldn't be able to fail again. I have now checked and replaced the window keys in every room. It is really helpful to have your feedback so we can fix these problems. Property Owner

  • "My husband, myself and our dog really enjoyed our holiday at Creekside and want to come back again next year."

The views from the windows were wonderful and so relaxing and the cottage itself is very comfortable with warm rooms and Smart TV. We cooked a few meals and snacks in the amply equipped kitchen and sat at the kitchen table enjoying the sight of the creek. Thank you for the milk, logs and flowers. Sadly our friends were unable to accompany us but maybe next time. We ate twice at The Globe Inn and had delicious meals, especially the Sunday lunch. Our dog loved the garden which we hadn't realised runs right round to the front, and he spent lots of time lying on the lawn and also watching people and birds from the deck. We did tie a lead to secure the front gate in case anyone came in the gate and he was running free, because he might have run into the busy road, so it felt safer. (The postman and gardener did come in but when we were out). The front walls are a bit low and he could have jumped over if he had been so inclined but he's not really a jumper, more a looker! Our only difficulty was locking the patio door as it did not quite align with the next panel but we did manage. Perhaps it can be looked at as we were worried we might break it. We think it has been repaired at some time. However, this will not stop us booking for next year and we hope you will have us back. Thank you.

Thankyou very much for your feedback on the door lock; I will arrange to have it checked ASAP. Your point about the garden walls is right- a highly motivated and athletic dog might decide to jump for the creek (or the birds there)! As dog owners ourselves we haven't had any problems to date, but it is worth future visitors being aware, and tethering their dog if they consider it a risk. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Creekside, and thankyou for your helpful and kind words. Property Owner

  • "House is clean and tidy and well equipped."

The information folder was the most detailed I have ever seen - thank you. The double room near the creek was hard to sleep in due to incessant humming noise (from a pump?). Having hurt my back prior to the visit I would have found a walk in shower of benefit. I’m sure this would be appreciated by other visitors. The weakest area was the lack of comfort in the garden. The picnic bench is useful, but not relaxing and the two loungers were well worn and very shabby - new covers at least are required.

The photos didn't do justice to the wonderful views down the creek from every room. It was a week of high tides so the water was lovely and we watched boats being put back in the water. The house is very comfortable and the heating was perfect. Lots to do in the area and in the house too with games and a good tv system. Will definately look at bookng again as I loved it!

On reporting this we were promptly given several heaters to use plus wine and chocolates as an apology. The staff organised a plumber to attend who fixed the problem and the house warmed up quickly. We were very impressed with the service which is credit to Sykes Cottages. It's our second time staying here and we love the location. Many thanks.

Many thanks for your kind review despite the initial heating problem. Our property management team did their best to fix the issue, and I'm pleased you could enjoy the rest of your stay- especially as you are returning guests. Many thanks for your understanding. Property Owner

  • "Wow! What an unbeatable position on the Frogmore Estuary, Creekside has."

The property far superior to its listing in real life! On entry the house was spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming- with tea, coffee, milk and artisan biscuits provided and fresh flowers on the table. The beds were comfy and the towels freshly laundered. The kitchen is more than amply equipped for up to six people and, although the table is a squeeze, the views at meal times are stunning! There was plenty of hot water and even lots of kindling and logs for the fire. We didn’t use them but the washing machine and tumble dryer are easily accessible and convenient. We did use the crab lines though, and caught a haul of 51 in Dartmouth! Creekside is a very special place, the owners make it exceptionally welcoming but the star of the show has to be the location- with views of the tide turning and fabulous sunsets- it can not be topped. We walked along the estuary at low tide and saw the lime kilns, various water birds, and stunning views but also- a deer and an owl. Our trips were to Bantham (always a treat), Dartmouth and Salcombe. The Swell Deli had the best Devon Pasty we’ve ever eaten, and The Cod Father provided superbly fresh haddock and chips. The Fishmonger, in the old market place, in Dartmouth provided us with the most friendly customer service ever- as well as freshly made crab sandwiches (with banter on the side!). Of course, Salcombe Dairy ice cream, with a fudge stick, is a must for any trip to the South Hams. Creekside comes highly recommended for its location as well as the amenities and comfort it provides. Although we enjoyed days out, it would also have been ideal for my mother, who is less mobile, as the Creekside views provide daily ‘entertainment’ of their own.

Thankyou very much for your great review! It’s really helpful to others who may be considering Creekside to give some detail so they can decide whether to book it. It’s great you saw a deer- I haven’t seen one in 18 years! Hope to see you back again one day, and thanks again for your review. Property Owner

Great for watching the wildlife. Comfortable too. Our only suggestion would be to have one of the bathrooms with a walk in shower as our parents in their 80s struggled with shower being over the bath.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

Clean and in a good position. The kitchen was well equipped. We had a really good time there. The dining area was disappointingly small, would be a real struggle if the booking had been for 6. We were fortunate to have good weather and were able to use outside table.

Many thanks for your feedback and we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the size of the seating in the kitchen. The seating area in the kitchen is small compared to the rest of the house, and is most comfortable for 4. We say in the Sykes description that it can seat 4 comfortably, (and 6 at a pinch). We find larger groups tend to eat outside or in the living room. Property Owner

  • "Fabulous accommodation in an excellent location."

Our grandchildren and their parents made good use of the creek, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming. The view down the creek, from the patio/decking was exceptional. Access to the water was from steps off the decking. We have never been so close to water! We had an excellent water sports experience across the two weeks stay. The accommodation was just right for the six of us, and one dog. Three good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms both with shower. A decent lounge with direct access onto the patio. A well equipped kitchen with ample storage space and the largest array of cutlery and crockery we have ever seen in holiday accommodation! We made good use of the separate laundry and Piggery (playroom). The local pub was a very short walk and provided excellent pub food that could be eaten inside, in the attractive two tiered beer garden, or packed up as takeaway. We only we could have stayed longer.

We did look at this but it is difficult to maintain a boat for guests to use- and make sure it's safe- when we are not near the area. If guests have their own canoe or paddleboard , and can bring it with them, it is easy to launch them on the public slipway which is 30 metres from the house. Property Owner

The property

Resting right at the head of Frogmore Creek in Devon is this wonderful, single-storey cottage, Creekside.

With three bedrooms sleeping up to six guests and excellent amenities, this cottage is a perfect base for a memorable holiday in this stunning part of the South Hams in Devon, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

With off-road parking for two cars, you will have no problem getting settled in at Creekside; enter the front gate into the property's enclosed, lawn garden and follow the gravelled path to the entrance, where you can leave your boots and coats, or dry off the dog, in the tiled porch.

Ideal for self-catering holidays, Creekside has a well-equipped galley-style kitchen/diner with a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, plenty of storage space and a pantry, as well as comfortable dining seating for four guests (6 at a pinch), with views out across the creek.

Walking along dramatic coastlines and in the elements calls for an evening by the open log fire in the sitting room, with sofas and comfy chairs to curl up on, and a Smart TV to stream your family's favourite movie.

Large bifold doors lead out onto the decking and give fantastic views down the tidal creek.

A handy external utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer means you can pack light and not worry about muddy walks.

There’s even a cold water shower outside for the dog!

Younger guests can make use of 'The Piggery', a rustic games room for somewhere to play on rainy days.

You will find three lovely bedrooms with pleasant views across the creek and storage space, the first being a king-size with a convenient en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower over, another king-size, and a twin.

The whole family can make use of the stylish bathroom, offering a large bath and a rainfall shower head to stand under and enjoy a hot morning shower, followed by a toasty towel fresh off the heated towel rail.

A lawn area surrounds Creekside with plants, shrubbery and an apple tree, whilst the rear decking just off the sitting room has a picnic bench for dining alfresco, or a cocktail while you watch the sun go down over the creek.

The deck overhangs the spectacular Frogmore creek which is tidal, and Creekside has (gated) private steps down into it.

You can launch your own canoes or paddle boards from here, or your dinghy from the public slipway which is just 30 metres away.

Or try fishing or crabbing.

Or enjoy this AONB with a walk along the creek at low tide to investigate the bird life and old lime kilns on its shores.

You might be lucky and see a seal.

Walking over the bridge into the village you'll find a fantastic bakery, a traditional pub perfect for dinners out, and Frogmore's family-focused annual regatta in August.

Keen walkers will find lots of variety in the area.

Creekside places you in a great location for Devon's outstanding beaches, so be sure to pack a picnic and head to Torcross, Mill Bay, Gara Rock or Bantham or to swim or surf.

The bustling old town of Kingsbridge is just a short drive west, with a variety of restaurants, pubs and shops to explore, or learn to paddle board at the local school.

Salcombe lies to the south with a lovely harbour, sandy beaches to stroll along, and a cool vibe.

The coastal walk to Bolt Head is a must for avid walkers.

Travelling north takes you to Dartmouth, a thriving town with high streets packed with shops and eateries, as well as art galleries, and local museums.

The Dartmouth Steam Railway can take you to Paignton or Kingswear near Agatha Christie’s home at Greenway.

There are several National Trust properties to see in the area.

Make Creekside your tranquil base to explore the coast, villages and landscapes of Devon with your family or friends.
