The only thing that let us down was getting the log burner hot tub to get to the temperature we wanted. We tried for 5-6 hours buying 2 extra bags of logs but just couldn’t seem to get it going. We followed the instructions to add.

Glad you enjoyed your stay, but sorry you had problems with the hot tub. We would have been very happy to pop up to help with this. If you return we will help get the fire roaring for a hot tub! Property Owner

It was a special way to spend my partners birthday and we loved our meal in the pub nearby The Fisherman’s cott. The views from the hot tub were spectacular and we cannot wait to visit again in the warmer weather.

Penny and Adrian were the perfect hosts with a welcome present of Prosecco and home made scones personally delivered. 5 days here was not nearly enough! Would highly recommend to anyone. Really modern with fabulous stylish decor. A wonderful welcome package & information on everything at hand. We are huge tea/coffee drinkers & were amazed at the selection left for us. Lovely pubs close by especially Fisherman’s Cott & Bickleigh Mill was a really beautiful place to stop & have drink or shop for gifts to take home. This all was situated in the most beautiful area. • "Property is very clean and tidy."

Spacious and comfortable. Both my self and parter unfortunately struggled with the bathroom door lock and got locked inside a few times found the lock very temperamental or hard to grab. Also the paving would need to be looked as as soon as possible as is very uneven in places someone can easily trip or even suffer a bad injury from the corners of the paving protruding up a lot.

Apologies for the bathroom lock, this will be looked into immediately. The extremely cold , and at times wet weather has effected the patio slabs. These are being relaid mid march. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay."

Perfect location. Lovely hosts. Accommodation was nice and clean and the architecture was great. Loved the wood burner inside! Only comments I have for improvement are more space for clothes so maybe a chest of drawers or under bed storage. And unfortunately we couldn’t get the hot tub hot enough in this weather and it was one of the main reasons we chose this particular accommodation so that was quite disheartening as didn’t feel like we got the full experience but the owners have said if we decide to come back they will get it up and running for us. Maybe it would be a good idea to change to electric ones and put a little roof over it so it can be used in all weathers. We had a really lovely stay though so thank you! :)

So sorry the hot tub didn't heat up for you. We are always around to help get the fires burning. Future customers, please ask for help with the hot tub if you can't get it going. So pleased you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Property Owner

  • "What can we say about the Bickleigh?"

First the bad stuff.......erm.... can't think of any. Now for the good stuff, where do we start? The owners are wonderful hosts, attentive and friendly but not at all intrusive and are willing to have a nice chat if you wish. The location is wonderful, on a hillside overlooking beautiful fields and trees, the owner's house is lower down the hill and can't be seen from the lodge so there is an uninterrupted view over the valley. It is so quiet and peaceful, we can see why they call it Ridgeview Retreat. If you want peace and quiet with stunning views this is the place to be. The lodge is amazing with everything you need, a good range of utensils, crockery, towels, even an emergency pack of toiletries. The TV (unlike in most places) has Amazon prime and Netflix and the WIFI works very well. You do need to allow a decent time for the hot tub to heat up (3 hours or so) and be attentive to keep the fire roaring until the tub is hot, after that make sure you let the fire die down or it may be too hot! I must mention the mushrooms, growing all round the lodge and in the field were masses of field mushrooms which we could pick and eat, quite delicious All in all, Ridgeview Retreats is a wonderful place with wonderful hosts and I recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful few days.

About the location

TIVERTON

Crediton 12 miles; Exeter 14 miles; Taunton 21 miles.

The largest town in Mid Devon, visit Tiverton for echoes of the past including a romantic castle, and horse-drawn barge trips on the idyllic Grand Western Canal. Occupying a strategic position on two rivers, the Exe and the Lowman, brought Tiverton wealth as a flourishing textile town, resulting in many fine buildings. These include the Jacobean Great House of St. George, three medieval almshouses, and the fantastic parish church of St. Peter with its remarkable frieze of merchant vessels with billowing sails. Another famous building is Old Blundells, immortalised by former pupil R.D. Blackmore in his classic Lorna Doone. However, the town's most famous building is beautiful Tiverton Castle, a royal fortress commissioned in 1106 by Henry I. Find out more about Tiverton's rich heritage at award-winning Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, with 14 galleries of exhibits including the Tivvy Bumper GWR locomotive.
