  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 2 Rockmount, we were lucky to have a lovely weather."

The accommodation was spotless, well equipped and home from home with fantastic views, the owner has thought of everything. A great addition to the property having a parking space and having the electric car charging which we did use very easily. Very well situated for walking into Salcombe around 10 minutes down hill. We loved Salcombe, all the local pubs are dog friendly and offer a good range of delicious food although a bit pricey but you expect it in Salcombe. Lots to see and do around the area without having to drive too far. Absolutely fabulous I could have stayed forever.

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful stay with our 3 month old baby at Rockmount."

The house was clean and had everything we needed apart from a travel cot which we took with us. The sofa and beds were very comfy with a beautiful view to the estuary from the front balcony seats. The location was great for walking into town and very beneficial having a parking space- albeit very steep, but we always remembered to leave it in gear and got used to the steel steps to the house. We would stay here again and recommend.

Steep parking spot, but convenient for the town. Lots of steps (as described), difficult when loading and unloading the car. Very happy with our choice.

  • "The property could do with some modernization and polish."

There were numerous cracks in the plaster, including a large one in the bedroom ceiling. The repair which had been done on previous damage to the bedroom ceiling also looked poorly finished. The paintwork around the property was also poorly finished in places, including paint on door handles and light fixtures. The extractor fan in the bathroom was also pretty well clogged with dirt and dust, and rust was visible around the edges of the mirror too. These may seem like minor issues, but combined it makes the property feel tired and old. The garden could have done with some grass in it too, as opposed to the stone chippings, I understand this is a personal preference, however, with the property welcoming dogs, grass is certainly more welcome to them. While I appreciate nothing can be done about the parking situation, it should be made very clear in the listing about the angle of the slope. With an older car like ours, we struggled to safely park, putting stress on the handbrake and running high on the clutch. We had to put bricks under the wheels, to stop the car slipping down the slope. This could be dangerous if people are trying to unload the car and the vehicle starts to slip. There was not much storage space for our food, so we left it out on the countertop, however, should the property be renovated I'm sure this is something that could be addressed. The house is in a really good location, with a great outlook too.

  • "Overpriced for how outdated the apartment is."

We are sorry to see your comment. You might like to know we have invested considerably in updating the property; most recently new flooring, new furniture and new equipment in various rooms - and the house was fully redecorated for this year. Re "outdated", clearly you and we have different taste - everyone is different. As for the price, we ensure we compete keenly with comparable houses in Salcombe. I hope you enjoyed your holiday. • "Great location but the steps as rightly described were testing by the end of the week and difficult when loading and unloading the car."

The house although very clean is tired and desperately needs money spending on it to bring it up to a modern standard. (“ (Look at the house on both sides) The shower is however amazing. Salcombe is lovely and we will stay again but sadly not at this house.

Many thanks for leaving us your feedback. We were disappointed to read that there were issues with your stay here at 2 Rockmount. We have passed on your suggestions to the owner who we’re sure will be saddened to read such. We hope that despite these issues you were still able to enjoy Salcombe and what it has to offer. • "Sadly the house was dirty, dusty, dated, basic & overall unloved."

Unsure when the property was last cleaned as the dust was thick, the number of bugs in the bathroom light was disgusting & the spider webs in every corner of ever room looked well established. The cleaner had left a cloth on one of the beds which was well dry so guessing it’s been a while. Also the bedsheets were dirty! The house is tired, clearly the owners don’t care about it & have done nothing to it since they came into ownership of it. It is dated & basic. The TV doesn’t work, there is no DVD player as advertised and no sound system. The properties either side of 2 Rockmount are stunning, which makes this house look even worse! The access via stairs isn’t bad, but the over grown bushes which hang over the steps at the back & the front of the property are! This house hasn’t seen TLC for a long time. I reported the TV not working on our 1st day & my concerns regarding the property’s hygiene etc, no one got back to me! Overall, I would not recommend this property to anyone!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We are terribly sorry to read that your stay here at 2 Rockmount wasn’t perfect. We have passed on your comments regarding the cleanliness and presentation of the property upon your arrival to the housekeeping team. Please be assured that this is not usual standard. Thank you for bringing the overgrown garden to our attention, we will pass this onto the maintenance team to ensure that this path is accessible. It was distressing to read that your effort to contact our Salcombe office was not followed up. Please be assured that this is not usual protocol and we can only apologise for any inconvenience this caused to you holiday. We hope that despite these concerns, you were still able to thoroughly enjoy Salcombe and its amenities and look forward to welcoming you back to the coast sometime soon. Property Owner

Many thanks for leaving us your feedback. We were concerned to read that there were a number of issues during your stay. • "We had a lovely time in Salcombe but had enough of the hills after a week."

The description talked about the amount of steps up to the cottage and it really is! We gave up going into town after a couple of days the hills were one reason and it all just seemed too much hassle after a while you could never book into the pubs for meals. We just used the spar shop around the corner and used the” cook” meals

  • "The house is quite run down including items such as the mattress/bedding."

There are things you could do that would really improve a guests stay, for example providing basic necessity items such as an oven glove, as well as items such as shampoo/shower gel / more than 2 loo rolls/ salt and pepper etc. It feels a little strange to be asked to bring some items. Also, the listing says their is a bbq which isn’t quite true, given disposable ones were provided (and they’re not the same!) I called ahead to ask about this 4 times and eventually was told there was a bbq and we wouldn’t need to bring anything. Having a bbq was key to our booking and we were disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at 2 Rockmount. It is disappointing to read that you felt the property is run down. The owner takes feedback seriously and has maintained the property, ensuring necessary items are replaced when needed. The mattresses were new two years ago so it is a shame you felt these were not up to the standard you would expect. As you will know our properties are all self-catering and the necessities are there for your arrival however it is then for you to provide your own once these have been used. Shampoo/Shower gel is not provided due to personal preferences, we do advise guests to bring their own oven gloves to this property as stated in the property description. We are sorry if you were given the incorrect information regarding the barbecue, this year the owners have provided disposable ones due to the previous coal barbecue not being looked after by guests however they have said they will be providing a coal barbecue again next year along with the disposables. We hope you still managed to enjoy your stay and hope to welcome you back to the area again soon. Property Owner

  • "The holiday cottage was listed as dog-friendly but only if they were kept indoors - there was nothing to prevent them from wandering into the gardens of both neighbours."

There was no key to open the kitchen windows, the duvet was stained, and the paved area immediately outside was littered with roof moss. There was no access to the fuse box so a call was necessary for someone to help when the lights went out. The parking space was on a steep slope potentially causing damage to cars that do not have a high road clearance.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at 2 Rockmount, all feedback positive or otherwise is of great benefit to the agency and our property owners. The owners have taken all of your points on board and changes implemented to ensure a better holiday experience going forward. Dogs can enjoy the terrace immediately outside the property freely as this is secured by enclosing railings with bolted gates to the front and rear and the website has now been updated to reflect this however the remainder of the garden is not enclosed. The owners have now sent a kitchen window key to us but unfortunately, it did not arrive during your stay and the duvets are being replaced immediately. We have asked the cleaners to keep an eye on the moss from the roof but we are sorry if this was an inconvenience to yourselves. The owners will also be fitting an emergency key box with access for the fuse box for customers should this happen again however over the last four years there have only been a couple of cases and we have amended the parking description to be clearer. We hope that regardless of these issues, you still enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back to Salcombe in the future. Property Owner

  • "The terrace garden was not as accurately described and should made clearer that there is very little grass for dogs."

Also the mains lights failed half way through our trip and despite contacting C and C nobody fixed them so we were living by lamp light! Also the cottage has several marks on the walls and a damp patch on the bathroom ceiling which should probably be attended to.

We were concerned to hear of the issues you experienced with the lighting during your stay and that on this occasion we did not meet our high standards of getting it fixed within a reasonable time. We are looking into what happened in this instance and we will be in touch with you shortly regarding this. We do not advertise the property as having grass and the photos do reflect this however we apologise if this was not clear, we will be taking steps to ensure no future confusion. We have had our maintenance team look at the bathroom ceiling and they were unable to see any damp patches however we will be monitoring this going forward. We hope you enjoyed your time in Salcombe and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

A pleasure to go to bed each evening and the kitchen was so very well equipped that it made cooking a doddle (I had brought my own utensils and slow cooker only to find everything I needed). I cleaned the apartment on arrival, the bathroom wasn’t clean and I don’t really think The rest of the house was, but I do have high cleanliness standards so this could be me having high expectations. We bought towels as it said they were not provided but they were as was a tea towel! Very nice cottage, builders next door very friendly - we would revisit!

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

The bungalow had everything you could want ( apart from a knife sharpener) was comfortable and nicely decorated. On a nice evening, great to sit out on the patio and take in the view. To get this lovely view, do note Rockmount is at the top of a very steep hill , steep steps leading up the property, with a very steep car parking space not for the faint hearted ! That said would still highly recommend staying there and you will be a little fitter by the end of you stay !

  • "Lovely spacious bungalow, fabulous views, perfect base for a week in Salcombe."

Previous reviews complained about the number of steps - you can only have such a view if you are high up and it was definitely worth the few steps. Only thing I would improve would be to have thicker curtains in the main bedroom as the early morning light came straight through the curtains - I know that's being picky!
