Your home away from home

Meadow Thatch is an elegant thatched cottage in the idyllic village of Cockington in South Devon, only a short stroll to a beach.

Neutrally decorated and furnished to a high standard, this home is the perfect balance of original period features and unaffected modern decor.

Situated in the traditional village of Cockington, it is the ideal property for a large group or family wanting to experience all the beauty of the surrounding area in a luxurious setting.

The downstairs hallway leads to a light and airy ground-floor bedroom boasting a king-size bed and views over the front garden.

Across the hall is a large family bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower.

With its high ceilings, exposed beams, and breakfast bar, the fully-appointed kitchen offers a wonderfully sociable space for cooking together.

The open-plan living area is spacious yet homely, with the dining and sitting spaces slightly partitioned, creating the illusion of two separate rooms.

Relax together on the sofas discussing what exciting adventures are in store for the rest of your stay, or enjoy a delicious meal at the dining table, with the patio doors opened out into the garden and a warm summer breeze diffusing around the room.

Upstairs are two further bedrooms, again impeccably decorated and furnished, both of which offer beautiful views of the gardens.

One bedroom has a king-size bed and the other a super-king-size bed that can be converted into two single beds if needed.

This room also has the additional option of a sofa bed that can sleep a further two children.

There is also a contemporary family bathroom on this floor featuring a bath and hand-held shower.

Outside, there are three enclosed gardens.

At the front of the property, there is a lawn with a babbling stream running along one side, there is also a gravel area with seating.

At the back of the property, there are two separate enclosed gardens, bisected by the stream.

Both offer lawn and seating areas, one of which is a raised platform with furniture and a barbecue.

The gardens offer a tranquil place to relax, with the only sounds being birdsong and the trickle of the stream.

Cockington is a picturesque centre boasting a number of traditional eateries, shops, and the sixteenth-century manor house, Cockington Court, that has been converted into a thriving arts and crafts centre.

The Court's acreage offers plenty of beautiful walking trails that are dog-friendly and full of fascinating sites.

A short walk is the vibrant seaside resort of Torquay, a busy town with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops as well as a popular theatre.

Meadow Thatch is a wonderful option for anyone wanting to visit the spectacular South Devon Coast while staying in a luxurious and elegant setting.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

Where you’ll be staying

COCKINGTON

Torquay 2 miles; Paignton 3 miles; Exeter 22 miles.

There are a number of villages that lay claim to being quintessentially English, but Cockington, with its narrow country lanes, traditional thatched cottages and charming village pub, is the real deal. Take a walk into the village centre and you will find the Tudor manor house, Cockington Court and its scenic acreage, featuring beautifully restored lakes and points of interest such as the Gamekeepers Cottage. The Manor is now a craft centre offering the opportunity for visitors to watch craftspeople at work and to purchase any number of handmade gifts. If you needed any more reasons to visit this quaint village, it would be its proximity to the bustling capital of the English Riviera, Torquay. Famous for its tropical plants, golden beaches and Victorian frontage, Torquay is a busy seaside resort offering visitors everything from fine dining, sailing and water sports, a popular theatre scene, as well as vibrant nightlife. Despite being only a half an hour walk from this lively centre, Cockington remains an oasis of calm and tranquillity, meaning that visitors can easily enjoy the best of both worlds.
