  • "An excellent holiday home."

We found it spacious for four people, comfortable, quiet, well-equipped and full of character (especially the separate den/snug overlooking the sea). It is one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. And Watchet is a good base - an interesting town with a harbour and a long history. Highly recommended!

  • "We had a fabulous week in the Anchorage cottage."

It was like a home from home with the added bonus of a Loft room with spectacular views out to sea. There was a Deck outside which also looks over a rugged beach and the sea. Beautiful cottage, beautiful scenery, lovely little town. (Watchet) Our only let down was the great British weather which was disappointing but out of our control.

It was very comfortable. Very spacious bathroom with good shower and spacious bath which my husband used every morning to ease his bad hip! We really loved going across the little jitty to the raised platform with fantastic views which we did daily due to the hit weather. Quirky but lovely. Would highly recommend.

Very good facilities and position close to the town center and quayside. Within easy walking distance of several beaches and good country and coastal walks. I would highly recommend this property. The Ship Inn hosted by Jason is a proper pub for good ales, cider and pub grub.

Could do with a new mattress on double bed and the ironing boards cover had disintegrated also it would be nice to have some milk in fridge on arrival. Loved this property it’s by far the nicest we’ve stayed in.

There was a very small issue that was dealt with immediately, even though it was a bank holiday. The cleaning team are to be highly commended because the house is spotless. Comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, lovely bathrooms, well located and a parking permit for a place just a couple of minutes walk away. We will be back.

  • "Loved the house and location - extra special place we’ve visited 5 times now."

Would have been nice to have some Christmas decorations or a welcome pack given it was Christmas week. Felt that we paid enough for the house to be cleaned after our stay - but we were asked to leave it how we found it (fully cleaned) and so cleaned three floors ourselves on our last day which was a lot to ask I felt.

Thank you so much for your feedback and we are pleased to have welcomed you back for your 5th stay at Anchorage. We do indeed carry out a full changeover following each guests departure. Although we do request that guests leave the property in a satisfactory condition we do not expect you to carry out a full clean of the property. We would however like to thank you for leaving our property so clean following your departure and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

the paintwork is peeling off in the bathroom, the suite in the loft space could do with a good clean and now the price for next year as gone up to over £900 for the 3rd week in september, no thanks. good luck selling them at that price.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we do take this seriously and have taken your comments on board. We have replaced the king size mattress in the main bedroom so it is now a medium rather than firm tension. In addition, the property has now been redecorated. Pricing is dynamic and does increase during popular months, following a careful comparison with similar style holiday properties, reflecting the location and the work required to maintain the high standards at Anchorage. • "The one disappointing thing about the holiday was that the bed linen and in particular the towels were not changed at the end of the first week."

In the Property Summary it states that bed linen and towels are included in the rent. It does not specify that they will be changed nor does it state that they wont. Our experience of self-catering around the country is that where you are staying for 2 weeks the linen and towels are changed mid way and hence this was our expectation. We suggest that you should strongly advise your clients that this should be the case and ensure narrative to whether this is the case or not should be added to the Property Spec.

The property

This Victorian fisherman's cottage is situated beside the beach in the heart of Watchet.

With fantastic views over the beach as far as Wales, it is a smart cottage for families or friends.

The courtyard has a very special feature: stairs which take you up into the old net drying loft which is now a comfortable look-out with amazing Bristol Channel views and comfy seats for watching TV or playing on the PlayStation 3.

From the pavement, you enter the main cottage with its charming sitting room with dining area and well-equipped kitchen.

Head up the steep stairs to a double bedroom with big bathroom, and then up more stairs to two charming bedrooms under the eaves.

At the back is the courtyard, which was once a hub of Victorian activity, but is now enclosed and partly covered and has a wet room shower and WC.

From here you can go through stable doors to a footpath which you share with the neighbour and your own terrace above the beach, a lovely place to sit in the sun and enjoy drinks or meals at the picnic table.

The shops, restaurants and pubs of friendly little Watchet are just 100 yards from this cottage, or watch boating life in the harbour marina where Coleridge is said to have met the ancient mariner.

You can enjoy fishing trips to catch your supper or take a nostalgic trip on the wonderful steam railway to Minehead.

With a little beach here and another sandy beach at Blue Anchor Bay, plus the Quantock Hills nearby, there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.

Anchorage really is a wonderful base for the best of Somerset's lovely attractions.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
