• "The cottage is in lovely village and very quaint - it is very difficult to locate the key safe - hidden in overgrown bushes ."

  Parking was difficult because of overgrown bushes scratching the cars . We parked on the road . The courtyard garden was overgrown and full of leaves . Inside there was evidence of ant nests on window sill in sitting room and the sofa was really badly stained and felt dirty . The beds and mattress protectors were really horribly stained . It felt as though because the cottage is for sale that the owners had lost interest a bit .

  We are pleased to hear you enjoyed Woodbury, but were sorry to hear your comments about our cottage. The overgrown bushes along the lane running in front of the cottage are the responsibility of the local authority, this sadly, and despite our asking them, is often not maintained as well as it should be. We have now trimmed them ourselves to ensure parking is easier. The key safe is in a deliberately discreet place, it's very close to the side of the wall, just not completely visible, which other guests have appreciated. Your comments on the condition of the property are also a little disappointing, especially as the feedback from other guests is always so positive (unfortunately, not all feedback is published publicly). We, and our cleaning team, take immense pride in presenting the property to a high standard, the sofa would certainly not have been dirty, perhaps mildly sun bleached in areas from the window as it is a dark colour, but not dirty. Regarding your reference to the stained mattress protectors, these are laundered after each stay, so we can only assume this is referring to an unfortunate hair dye stain on one of the non removable memory foam toppers on a single bed mattress. Much effort has gone into trying to remove the stain with no success, so it is clean but sadly still marked. We can assure you that no interest has been lost in our home. We regrettably need to sell the property, which we have loved as a family home and recently opened to holiday guests. We're sorry you felt otherwise. • "Lovely stay at this cottage, very clean and spacious."

  Very comfortable beds and all good utensils. We just had a problem with the front door lock so had to use the side door for the entire stay, which wasn’t a problem. Hopefully it’s sorted now.

  Thank you for your feedback. We're so pleased you enjoyed the cottage and noticed the utensils!! Its something we felt quite strongly about- I know it drives me mad to find only one knife and three folks when arriving at holiday cottage and we wanted to make sure our guests had everything they might need to enjoy their holiday. • "Overall good for what we wanted."

  On a couple of minor points: - Key safe was difficult to access due to all the bushes around it - Would have been helpful to have a bigger coffee table in the lounge

  Thank you for your feedback. We currently live overseas and only manage to visit the cottage once a year during the summer- this year arriving just after your stay! Your comments are fair and issues that we also picked up on as soon as we returned. The bushes by the gate and key safe have now had a significant trim! Sadly, we did have a beautiful little dropside antique table in the living room to serve as a coffee table but it disappeared after some unfortunately, badly behaved guests had stayed a few months ago (the subsequent clean up operation was significant and also rather heartbreaking), we can only assume they broke the table and discarded of it without informing us. During our recent visit we have found an alternative table- sadly not so pretty though! Thank you for choosing Castle Cottages and we hope you enjoyed your time in Woodbury. • "Second time we have stayed."

  Excellent cottage, listing exactly as stated on website. Easy access to Exmouth and Exeter City Centre. Will definitely be looking at returning.

• "What a fantastic property!"

  We didn't know the village very well, but it had everything we needed including some spectacular local walks. The property is very well equipped, and the 'arrivals box' was a lovely addition, very thoughtful and appreciated. We would definitely recommend the property and would consider returning.

• "Lovely situated cottage in a lovely friendly village."

  1 Castle Cottages has everything you need for a self catering break and the welcome gifts were much appreciated. On arrival there was opened food in the cupboard etc which we put up on top shelf and put ours on the bottom. We didn’t know if they were left by owners or by previous holidaymakers so didn’t use it. We ate out every day at The Maltsters Arms - what a fantastic place, brilliant food and great owners who made us feel like regulars. We will be back at some point. Thankyou

Our cleaner thoroughly checks the kitchen between each visit and if there is ever any in-date, non-perishable food thoughtfully left by previous guests, she will leave it for incoming guests to make use of, since we are always keen to reduce waste in our community. We're also really glad you found the Maltersers and clearly enjoyed Matty and Sam's wonderfully warm welcome! They are true gems of the village!! • "We have had a fantastic week at Castle Cottages."

  The house is beautiful and has everything that you could possibly need during your stay- the owners have thought of everything. It was very clean and made for a comfortable stay. The welcome pack was thoughtful and much appreciated. We met quite a few locals who were very friendly and gave us lots of recommendations of where to go and what to do, which was great. We loved the area and packed so much into the week. We would love to go back and will be recommending the cottage to friends and family.

• "Fantastic. A home from home."

  Has everything you could possibly need to make your stay perfect. Great size, plenty of room to spread out. Great kitchen, dining area for eating and playing games. We would definitely return.

• "Devon at its best."

  ..Beautifully refurbished spacious cottage, extremely clean, comfortable beds and well equipped. Suitable for all ages with the added bonus of being very dog friendly. We booked with only 24hrs notice, the staff at Sykes were very prompt and helpful with information, We thoroughly enjoyed our last minute break Woodbury is a lovely village close to the coast, estuary villages and many places of interest.

• "1 Castle Cottages was recently renovated and so the kitchen and bathroom/shower room were modern and very comfortable."

  It is well situated in the delightful village of Woodbury. One minor criticism is that the master bedroom has a sloping ceiling which wasn't mentioned and it was very difficult to get in and out of bed without hitting your head on the ceiling although that minor discomfort would not put us off booking the cottage again. There were lots of extra little touches like the complimentary sparkling wine and cream tea. It was extremely clean and comfortable and would not hesitate in recommending it for a family stay. 8 people for any length of time may find it a little cramped as it's two or three tiny cottages converted into one.

  Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback, its always helpful to hear how guests have found their stay, especially as 1 Castle Cottages is our first, and very recent step into holiday lettings! We're glad you enjoyed your stay, and the village too. Unfortunately, with the shape of the master bedroom, and decpite completely repositioning the ensuite within the space, we were left with no option but to have the bed slightly under the eaves on one side. We also felt it was important to have a king sized bed in the master room for added comfort but know that this does, annoyingly, encroach further. • "The cottage was beautiful and it was literally a home from home in terms of the facilities and thoughtful touches provided by the owners to make our stay comfortable."

  This included a lovely welcome pack with essentials like milk and tea bags, plus a few luxuries in the form of Prosecco and scones plus jam and clotted cream....oh, and treats for the dog! There were seven adults in our group, which did mean that one had to sleep in a bunk bed, but nevertheless we were very comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean and the cottage was fully equipped with all the appliances you would have at home. Woodbury is a very pretty village, with two main pubs a few minutes' walk away. The White Hart were very accommodating of our dog and the food there was really good. There's a local store and a takeaway, also both within a few minutes' walk of the cottage. Topsham, about a 10 minute drive away, has more pubs and restaurants to choose from, and the coast is also a very short drive from the cottage. Overall it was a perfect location for exploring Devon and a very lucky last minute find enabling us to get away as a family for the Bank Holiday weekend.
