Clear arrangements for access, via Sykes and then by phone to owner. Attractive cottage, well furnished and equipped. The owner is probably an interior designer (from business cards left in the house), and there are some unusual and attractive features which give the cottage a welcoming and homely feel. Very good standard of equipment and furniture. Lots of little extras, even sewing kit, shoe cleaning set,ice packs etc. So we were very comfortable for the week we were there. Car parking was sometimes a problem : only on the street, in "competition" with neighbours and visitors to the area, which meant on occasions we had to find a space up the hill some distance away.
Barnstaple 2 miles; Westward Ho! 11 miles.
Just on the outskirts of Barnstaple, the quaint village of Bishops Tawton is perfectly placed for exploring all the region has to offer while being set back from the main visitor crowds. The village has a charming local pub and shop and almost overlooks the River Taw as it spills into the main estuary. This is a great base for exploring the many surfing beaches that surround Barnstaple Bay, and the many visitor attractions that are located along the fabulous coastline that extends westward to Clovelly and to Bude in Cornwall and beyond.

Previous visitors' comments about 4 Rose Cottages:
The cottage is a lovely example of a period workers cottage, sensitively extended and modernised. It was cosy, comfortable and simply but attractively furnished. I really enjoyed spending time there each evening.
Mrs Hughes, Newport, January 2010

Great cottage, very cosy and warm. Liked being close to village pubs. Good bus service to Barnstaple. Took advantage of inexpensive rail trip to Exeter on a very wet day.
