Overlooking the wonderful mid-Devon countryside and with distant views of the Dartmoor tors, these Winkleigh cottages offer a peaceful retreat for families within an ongoing conservation project, with the chance to be inspired by the green approach to tourism and Devon traditional farming life. Two of these Devon cottages have been beautifully restored from old farm buildings and are furnished in a traditional, rustic style to provide charming holiday homes with plenty of character. In addition there are three Scandinavian-style wooden chalets set in a peaceful meadow. Each Devon cottage has its own garden area and free access to the farm, where the owners are only too pleased to give hints on how and where to spot the abundant wildlife, birds and flowers. Winkleigh has a grocery shop, Post Office, thatched cottages, two pubs, a vineyard and lovely footpaths. The dramatic landscape of Dartmoor is only 20 minutes in the car, where there are stunning walks amongst the tors and ponies. Okehampton, 12 miles away, has a useful range of shops, banks and supermarkets. The surfing beaches of north west Devon and north Cornwall are 40 minutes by car, while the fabulous RHS garden at Rosemoor is 20 minutes’ drive. Winkleigh is a small rural village in the heart of Devon's rolling countryside and offers a shop, post office, butcher and a cafe, plus two pubs which offer food and the chance to sample traditional ciders and scrumpy from the Winkleigh Cider Company. Winding lanes, high hedgerows and a more gentle pace of life characterise the area. The open tors of Dartmoor are a big attraction for nature lovers and walkers, while the hills of Exmoor and the surfing beaches can all be reached in 40 minutes by car. Historic Torrington, home to RHS Rosemoor and an arts centre is just 13 miles away, whilst the Cathedral City of Exeter with its Roman city walls, shopping centre, theatre and restaurants makes a great day out.
