Wheatland Farm Cottages

Winkleigh 2 miles. Two welcoming holiday homes situated on an attractive nature reserve, on the owner’s farm near the picturesque village of Winkleigh. The owners of these cottages near Winkleigh are passionate and knowledgeable about conservation and their eco-lodge and cottage have won various awards for Green Tourism, including the top award for sustainable tourism in England in 2012 and again in 2015. Overlooking the wonderful mid-Devon countryside and with distant views of the Dartmoor tors, these Winkleigh holiday homes offer a peaceful retreat for families or friends, with extensive outdoor facilities including free bikes, a boating pond and 21 acres to explore. The cottage has been beautifully restored from an old Devon farm building and provides a charming holiday home with plenty of character. The Scandinavian-style wooden chalet is set in a peaceful meadow where owls often hunt at dusk. Each property has its own garden area and free access to the farm, where the owners are only too pleased to give hints on how and where to spot the abundant wildlife, birds and flowers. Winkleigh has a grocery shop, Post Office, thatched cottages, two pubs, a vineyard and lovely footpaths. The dramatic landscape of Dartmoor is only 20 minutes in the car, where there are stunning walks amongst the tors and ponies. Okehampton, 12 miles away, has a useful range of shops, banks and supermarkets. The surfing beaches of north west Devon and north Cornwall are 40 minutes by car, while the fabulous RHS garden at Rosemoor is 20 minutes’ drive. You will definitely be inspired by the unique approach to tourism at these friendly Winkleigh cottages.

A delightful semi-detached stone-built cottage, restored from a former shippon, with beautiful views from the bedroom over the wildlife lake. Cosy and full of charm, this Winkleigh cottage has a sitting area with woodburner, a fitted kitchen and an enclosed garden, great for your dog, who is welcome to join you. Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x twin (strap/link, can be king-size double on request). Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with woodburner.

Shop 10 mins walk, pub 2 miles. Note: When the twin beds are made up as a king-size double, it can be accessed from one side only.

Winkleigh is a small rural village in the heart of Devon's rolling countryside and offers a shop, post office, butcher and a cafe, plus two pubs which offer food and the chance to sample traditional ciders and scrumpy from the Winkleigh Cider Company. Winding lanes, high hedgerows and a more gentle pace of life characterise the area. The open tors of Dartmoor are a big attraction for nature lovers and walkers, while the hills of Exmoor and the surfing beaches can all be reached in 40 minutes by car. Historic Torrington, home to RHS Rosemoor and an arts centre is just 13 miles away, whilst the Cathedral City of Exeter with its Roman city walls, shopping centre, theatre and restaurants makes a great day out.
