This cottage had everything you needed and also some amazing extras like the welcome pack with eggs and milk and bread and even a cream tea. Also the hot tub was amazing and we relaxed fully. The animals around the farm made it even more beautiful. We will certainly be back to this special place, the dogs loved the secure garden and the views from the hot tub were amazing

  • "I totally recommend this property."

After a terrible journey there, Peter made us feel so welcome. The cottage was perfectly laid out and really comfortable. It really was one of the best cottages we stayed in for our dog. The enclosed garden was great for our dog with perfect views to the chickens, sheep and horses and when we were in the hot tub, we knew we were safe. It was great to also have the sand run or the back field to give her the morning and evening walks. The welcome pack we received was perfect and exactly what we needed. I would definitely recommend this wonderful cottage to anyone want to stay around Devon, it makes the most perfect location to relax or central point to explore Dartmoor. Peter and Jackie make the most perfect hosts, with so much knowledge of the surrounding area and want to help but at the same point, give you the space to relax.

  • "Absolutely fantastic holiday had by us."

Me, hubby, 12 year old son and Labrador. Pete and Jackie are fantastic hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. Very informative and very friendly. The property is just amazing. So much attention to detail making it feel like a real home from home. In fact better than home, because one very rare thing is usually when you go places, the mattresses are a little underwhelming. Not here. Those mattresses were absolute heaven. I am missing it already! Everything you could possibly need was in the cottage. Loads of towels, dressing gowns and toiletries. The welcome cream tea and also bread, milk, orange juice, eggs and fresh flowers was such a wonderful touch. That and the hot tub sure helped take away 13 hours of driving stress. All in all the only downside was we had to leave so soon!! I wish we had booked 2 weeks. Okehampton itself has plenty shops etc. if you get a chance, try Wongs for Chinese. Lovely man and yummy food. The New Inn at Sampford Courtenay is absolutely amazing (the chocolate fondant is out of this world) all in all a fabulous stay and we will be back

The cottage is charming and full of character, comfortable too, we just felt like it was a home-from-home. The hosts are extremely generous and helpful, no question goes unanswered and nothing appears to be too much trouble; if in doubt, just ask. Would I recommend Barley Meadow? • "We have just returned after our second visit celebrating our wedding anniversary at Barley Meadow."

Staying in this property was my husband, myself and our 16 year old son plus our two dogs. If looking at staying here then look no further you will not be disappointed. You will greeted with a very warm welcome and a lovely welcome package from fresh eggs, milk, orange juice, dog biscuits, flowers to beautiful cream and jam scones. This property provides every accessory, comfort and utility you can think of. Torches, umbrella, dog bowls, dog towels, dish cloth, tea towel, well equipped kitchen, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, blankets (not that you need them as this property is lovely and cosy) and WiFi. You just need to bring your clothes and yourself. Every little detail has been thought out carefully with hotel touches and has a wonderful home from home feel with spectacular views. The beds are extremely comfy with spotlessly clean bedding to ensure a relaxing stay and towels and towling robes provided for the amazing hot tub ready to use on arrival. This property is extremely clean and well maintained. You can see all the hard work that goes into making your stay an amazing one. A large beautiful garden with amazing views that is safe for your furry friends to run around. Friendly horses and sheep that come up to the fence to say hello is just wonderful to see along with ducks and chicken roaming about the yard. Peter is on hand for any questions and recommendations of places to visit along with ideas in your welcome book. This is a must to read and carefully put together so we can say first hand the recommendations are spot on. This property sleeps 4 people and we loved it so much last year our family stayed in the Orchard this year next door which now sleeps 6. Another beautiful property and extremely quirky it’s hard to say which we prefer so both we would happily stay in. Though only next door you still have complete privacy from the adjoining property and would not know you had neighbors. Completely secluded with amazing views but only a drive away to shops and local villages, come rain or shine, you will not be disappointed staying here. It truly is a little peace of heaven. Thankyou Peter and Jackie for our anniversary bottle of bubbly and already looking forward to our next visit x Daryl, Elizabeth and Cameron not forgetting Archie and Eric xx

Room for improvement - the wardrobe in one of the single bedrooms wouldn't open because they hit the bed, and I dearly wanted deeper cereal bowls as they couldn't hold the amount of cereal my two active children eat. But these are minor details that didn't matter very much, and were clearly outweighed by all the positives. We have come home feeling we have been spoilt and I would definitely stay again if we come back to the Devon area.

...So relaxing and peaceful and away from it all, but close enough to visit areas of interest..Even though the weather was rubbish, we still went out everyday to find a new place to visit and our favourite was driving over Bodmin Moor.

  • "Beautifully furnished spacious cottage, very welcoming owners Peter and Jaquie who live next door."

Comes with own garden which was perfect for our dogs but our dogs are very small and managed to escape under gate. The owners have really thought of everything here - including jam, ketchups, cooking oil, cling film, hand wash, toilet rolls etc. The kitchen is well stocked with every utensil you could need. The washing machine and separate dryer were a great help as was the dishwasher. The beds were soo comfortable- now want new beds at home as these were soo nice. The hot tub was lovely and hot and could be used at any time as it was at a constant 37 degrees and you did not have to wait for it to heat up. The views are truly beautiful and it is so quiet and a real get away from everything location. The owners horses and sheep/chickens are at bottom of garden which my children enjoyed feeding and petting. The welcome pack of milk, bread, orange juice, cream tea and cereals was a great help. The only negative is the location - this is a very rural setting. There are two narrow unlit windy roads to this property. The first road is narrow for one car with lots of passing places, the second lane again approx 2 miles plus ( seems longer) is steep, extremely narrow and ? Any passing places. We would have to leave our day out by 4 pm to get back before dark as it was too stressful driving down these lanes in pitch dark. There are no local shops or pubs you can walk too. There is a garage approx 7 miles away but that is all. I did ring Sykes prior to booking this cottage as previously stayed in Devon at another remote cottage as didn’t want to be in a remote setting with narrow unlit country lanes and was assured this property was short distance from main road. There is a main road a short drive from left of property but this was closed whilst we were staying here and you still have to go down the narrow lane to exit the property. The sat nav will only recognise and bring you in via the long unlit narrow country lanes. I would recommend this property for a romantic getaway weekend/week with hot tub but if you like to explore and like going out in evening and don’t like narrow unlit country lanes this is it the property for you.

  • "We had an excellent week at Barley Meadow."

The location is very rural and peaceful but within easy reach of the places one is likely to visit. The owners are extremely charming and helpful. The cottage itself is very well appointed , warm and very comfortable, and the welcome pack that the owners left ready for our arrival was probably the best we have experienced. The WIFI facilities are excellent returning high speeds which was a welcome surprise considering the rural location and was very helpful in planning outings for the following day(s). My two granddaughters who accompanied us made ample use of the hot tub throughout the week and very quickly made friends with the owners horses and "fat fred" the cat. In summary I would have no hesitation is recommending this cottage to anyone who wants a very enjoyable week. We always have high expectations when we book a cottage and on this occasion our expectations were more than fulfilled. If you plan to visit this part of Devon, book this cottage.
