  • "The property was excellent."

Our reservation before arriving was the lack of parking. There was no mention of where to park but we managed to find a car park within 5 minute's walk, Caen Street Car Park. It was inexpensive. There was little information about the house, we didn't expect a dishwasher or washing machine. It was all "high spec". The garden was super. (Had we renovated the property, we would have dismissed Cell One and bunk beds and put in a downstairs loo!)

  • "Issue reported to Sykes when we arrived."

TV was broken. No action was taken during our stay. Overall the property was lovely but a few things let it down. The toilet seat in the main bathroom was broken, we all have bruises on our legs from it. There was a lack of towels for 6 people staying. No welcome pack in the kitchen, had to go and buy tea towels, washing up liquid etc… Window in the sitting room did not close properly allowing draft and lots of noise into the room! Rubbish collections were complicated and was not taken due to rubbish not being placed into black bags which again had not been provided. Cottage is in a great location and could be an amazing place to stay with a few little touches, kitchen was well equipped but some instructions for the appliances wouldn’t go amiss and beds and sofas were comfortable.

  • "Loved our stay, everything we needed in a grate location."

Parking was easy on the next street and £8 per day which was reasonable. We knew when booking there was only one bathroom, having an additional shower room would be a real addition to the property, even an outdoor solar shower for days after the beach would be great. But honestly no complaints had a fab stay.

  • "The old police house was a great place it was very clean, tidy and in a great location."

The beds were very comfortable. There was more than enough cutlery, and dinnerware for all the family there were even kids cutlery and dinnerware. The notice board was great as gave us useful information so did the handbook that was left but really needed updating and it was contradicting what was on the notice board. The outdoor toilet is great addition.there was a cupboard full of games most were old but still fun to play. The only downside to the property was the lack of door handles, out of the three bedroom doors upstairs only one room had a door handle making if difficult for privacy. One of the bedrooms was also missing a blind so got a lot of light coming into the room in the morning. There were no instructions for the washer/dryer so had to Google them. There were pegs in the property but no clothes lines so this made it difficult to dry clothes when the weather outside was wet. The stairs in the property are steep and could really do with a handrail all the was down. The stairs in the back garden are also very steep and narrow but when you make it up on to the decking it is very lovely and big area for all the family to set out and enjoy. Overall this was a great property I would definitely stay at this property again.

We had a fantastic stay - the house was perfect to visit all the beaches nearby - lovely fish/chips bar meals close at hand - The only down side was the parking facility - but we managed to park at a cost - Also the disposal of rubbish was a real problem - no bin facility at all - we had to take our rubbish with us every day and dispose of it -

Thank you so much for your feedback and we are so glad you enjoyed your time at The Old Police House. We do provide information regarding waste disposal on the notice-board in the property and the collection does come twice a week, so we apologise that you missed this but hope it did not detract from a nice stay. We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Really helpful and responsive owner. Only issue is the parking, but we knew that before we went. Amazing location.

  • "Location is great, but the lack of parking is a bit of an issue."

We were OK, as we found adequate street parking etc. but was the only downside from an otherwise excellent holiday home.

  • "I would just like to say that I booked through booking."

Com where it was not clear this was a sykes holiday let. I received no reply to messages sent through booking.com which has never happened before. I could not discuss check out or parking etc. I also didn't know until AFTER we'd booked that we'd have to strip the beds and load the dishwasher, even with a 10am checkout. And there was no toilet roll on arrival- in a place that cost over £400 for 2 nights. The location of the house was good for amenities- the main road was noisy enough to wake us. Nicely looked after house but one bathroom for 9 people is not enough.

Ive sent two emails now one when i was at the cottage other when i checked out both had pics and details about the house no one been in touch when we arived there was over a weeks worth of rubbish in garden there was a black bra under the draws in back bedroom there was sweet and chocolate under the sofa that the dog sniffed out and when we moved the sofa it was filthy under there the bottom of the bath looked like it hadnt been cleaned for months the shower screen had all soap scum and the sink in the bathroom had several cracks in and black mould and the fridge in the utility had about a inch of dust and filth on top hadn't been wiped for months i sent pictures in a email not heard a thing

The cleaners were there and told us check in was 5pm. Even though i showed them an email from the week prior to me arriving. There were no covid 19 procedures. No masks the property was a state The property was filthy, its not seen a duster for 20 years. There was food in the cupboards, rubbish everywhere. I will be complaining to yourself and i intend cancelling my December get away.

The riverside restaurant serves excellent roast dinner, we would also recommend Sian Bistro and the local fish and chips. We will be returning at some point only set back would be parking at busy times as there doesn’t seem like there’s enough.

  • "Parking was just across the road in Caens car park which was very reasonably priced."

The boiler tripped out but was easy to reset when investigated although it did leave us with no hot water for a night. These are minor issues compared to the very good position for beaches, food, pubs and a very comfortable well presented property which we thoroughly enjoyed. The property faces SQ delivery entrance so leaving the window open of a night may cause some people an issue with early morning for deliveries. Obviously with the window shut there was no problem however the weather being warm its nicer to have the draught.

Owner has replaced with a brand new boiler and revamped the whole heating system since the guest's departure. Property Owner

The property

A terraced former police house in the village centre of Braunton, this charming cottage is just three miles from the beautiful North Devon Coast.

Located in the heart of the village, you are surrounded by village shops, surf shops, traditional village pubs, contemporary restaurants, bars and cafes, and also close to the bank and cash point.

With sandy beaches and golf courses, this is an ideal holiday cottage for all the family.

The Old Police House has been beautifully converted, with some of the interesting original features retained.

The kitchen with its large dining area leads out to a utility room and surfboard storage area.

The sitting room has plush sofas and a large TV, and makes a really cosy, relaxing family room.

The former ground floor cell has the original viewing panel and now serves as a bedroom with bespoke bunk beds, and the wide staircase used to take criminals up to the first floor has a fabulous feature window, letting in plenty of light to the upstairs landing.

The three bedrooms on the first floor are spacious; the Kingpin Room with a king-size bed, the Garden Room with a double bed and patio doors leading out to the garden, and The Family Room which can either be made up with a super king-size double and a single, or with three single beds.

The enclosed rear garden is reached via the inner hallway or the utility room, and several steps lead up to extensive decking across two areas.

The decking can also be reached from one of the first floor double bedrooms, being on the top level, and it has wonderful views across the village, providing a sunny spot to relax around the barbecue.

A short stroll into the village provides easy access to a bistro, pubs, cafes and shops and a three-mile drive leads to the fabulous long sandy beach at Saunton, which is backed by Braunton Burrows, a vast area of sand dunes, designated an AONB.

A welcoming cottage with a wealth of charm, close to beaches and family fun.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
