Woolleigh Barton Cottages
Beaford 2 miles. These two sympathetically restored barn conversions are adjoined and situated within an acre of meadows in a rural location two miles from Beaford in North Devon. Overlooking sloping grassland leading down to the Torridge river valley, the cottages are in an ideal tranquil setting, and provide a quiet getaway for families and groups, and in total sleep eighteen people very comfortably. Both cottages share an indoor heated swimming pool and both have been furnished and equipped to a high standard containing individual pieces of antique furniture and artefacts. Attention has been taken to retain and enhance the character of the dwellings including exposed beams, feature stone walls, oak timber sills to windows with original beams over and boarded floors in the main living rooms. Each has their own patio and garden furniture and a brick barbecue, plus they share a large grassy meadow, an ideal area for ball games and fun. The village pub, which is said to be haunted, is only two miles away and provides a warm, friendly welcome and good local food. Near to Beaford is the ancient market town of Torrington where there are a huge range of local amenities and plenty of history. Garden lovers will enjoy the extensive grounds and stunning roses at the RHS Rosemoor Gardens. Guests can also take a trip to Dartington Crystal to see the glassblowers and to enjoy a traditional Devon cream tea in their adjoining restaurant. The North Devon beaches are only a half hour drive away and provide spectacular waves and long sandy beaches. Other nearby attractions includes family theme parks such as The Big Sheep and The Milky Way, the quaint Cliffside fishing village of Clovelly and the market town of Bideford.
Threshing Barn is a spacious stone barn retaining its threshing doors on both the north and south sides which are now fully glazed and allow superb light and exceptional views over the rolling green meadows sloping down to the Torridge river valley.
The large sitting room with comfortable sofas, a woodburner for a cosy night in and doors to the garden which is perfect for a summer’s evening, is big enough for the family to sit together after a day out exploring the area.
There are a couple of steps down into the country kitchen which boasts a range cooker and a pine table seating ten.
Upstairs, off the galleried landing are four bedrooms including a king-size four poster double with an en-suite shower room, three twin bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite, and a family bathroom.
On the ground floor is a super king-size double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, ideal for a little peace and quiet or for those not able to climb the stairs.
The cottage shares an acre of ground with the attached holiday cottage, but also has a private patio and lawn area with seating and a barbecue, plus gorgeous views across the Torridge valley.
