Highertown Farm Cottages
Tavistock 2.5 miles. A stunning pair of cottages converted from a barn, now standing side by side across a courtyard from a farm in Devon, within their own private enclosed gardens and surrounded by paddocks grazed by ponies, sheep and chickens. Situated on a slope above the West Devon Way, in a tranquil, rural setting a mile and a half from Dartmoor National Park, the cottages offer an escape to the countryside for a family or group of 10 to 12. The cottages have amazing, far-reaching countryside views towards Dartmoor and are just two and a half miles from Tavistock. There is a popular pub just one and a half miles away serving food, and a wide range of independent shops, along with the award-winning Pannier Market, in Tavistock. Moorland, woodland and rivers are within direct walking and cycling distance from the barn, or you could simply relax with a good book and do some birdwatching. For those seeking excitement, there are a host of outdoor adventure activities to explore nearby and the property is located closely to Drake’s Trail, which is part of the National Cycle Trail Route 27. The property joins the trail between Brunel’s Genofen Tunnel and the Gem Bridge, an iconic new centrepiece of the Drake’s Trail. The route covers both short and long distances and is suitable for children and adults of all abilities. War Horse was filmed nearby and there are plenty of tors to discover on Dartmoor, either on foot or horseback. The waterside city of Plymouth is a short drive away, with activities for rainy days including a visit to the National Marine Aquarium, The Pavilion’s swimming pool and ice rink, the historic Barbican and a couple of theatres. Set amongst some of Devon's most natural, unspoilt countryside, a stay in this cosy, rural escape will leave you wanting to return for more.
The smaller of the two semi-detached barn conversions is ideal for two or four, as it offers the additional use of a double sofa bed in the sitting room.
Owl Barn also has wide doorways and is wheelchair accessible.
The sitting room opens to a wide patio and lawn, a sunny spot with far-reaching views across the valley and a lovely spot to linger with a book in the peace and quiet.
There is a wet room, plus a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed and doors to the rear garden with amazing views towards Dartmoor.
There are lots of opportunities for walking and cycling a short distance away, including the Drake’s Trail, a National Cycle Trail.
A delightful base for exploring this beautiful region.
