About the location

Great Torrington

Bideford 7 miles; Westward Ho! 10 miles.

Great Torrington is an unspoilt town built on high ground above the River Torridge, and is a fifteen minute drive from the spectacular North Devon coast at Westward Ho!. With historic links to the Civil War, the “Torrington 1646” attraction at Castle Hill in the town gives an interesting insight to the Roundheads and Cavaliers. Another leading tourist attraction is Dartington Crystal where visitors can see craftsmen blowing and shaping glass, follow the history of glassmaking and buy some beautiful pieces. The town has a good selection of individual shops, a friendly atmosphere, and some good inns. About a mile from Great Torrington is the spectacular RHS garden at Rosemoor, splendid with colourful roses in summer and in a breathtaking setting by the River Torridge. There are many villages to visit on the North Devon coast including picturesque Clovelly built on a steep hillside above the sea, Westward Ho! with fabulous sandy beaches and Hartland village with narrow streets, village square and Hartland Point with breathtaking sea and coastal views. Great Torrington is a quiet, convenient base from which to explore North Devon, the Tarka Trail and the rolling Devon landscapes.

The accommodation was very peaceful and relaxing. The owner was very hospitable and we were made to feel most welcome.

Mrs Ascott, Bath, October 2013

The property and the owners were wonderful. Not often you arrive to a home made Devon Cream tea and a really warm welcome from the owners. We were amazed at the amount of excellent kitchen ware, virtually everything that you have at home including a juicer and all in superb condition. The gardens were wonderful with great seating and dining areas and a BBQ for us to use. The dogs were allowed in the garden and were fussed over by the owners whom are dog lovers. All in all a fabulous place to stay with or without pets and we certainly will be going back. Thank you for a really restful time.

Mrs Kelly, Poole, June 2013

A great place to stay. An extremely tranquil and relaxing break with lots to do in the area.

Mr Proud, Warminster, April 2013
