The Property

A semi-detached whitewashed cottage, in the quiet south Devon village of Stoketeignhead, near the coastal town of Shaldon. Reached up a small flight of steps, this cottage near Shaldon stands high above the village street, and therefore commands excellent views of the surrounding countryside from the first floor. Boasting beams and four poster beds, this comfortable Shaldon cottage has a sitting room with reclining sofas, a spacious kitchen/diner and three bedrooms. At the front of this Shaldon cottage, surrounded by tall shrubs and set in complete privacy, is a sunny seating area, ideal for quiet relaxation in the fresh air. It is a ten minute walk from this Shaldon cottage to the traditional village pub and community shop, and there are plenty of beautiful walks from the village along the pretty flower-lined Devon lanes. The safe sheltered sandy cove at Maidencombe is just a mile's easy stroll, with a lovely pub/restaurant down near the beach for those well-earned refreshments. Apart from the main estuary beachfront in Shaldon, there is also the popular Ness beach, accessed via an original smuggler’s tunnel, and providing a sheltered and picturesque spot for swimming or rockpooling. A few miles away is the Osbourne Hotel, which overlooks Meadfoot beach and provides wonderful leisure facilities. A visit to the Shaldon Wildlife Trust’s breeding centre for rare mammals is popular with visitors, and across the estuary is Teignmouth with its promenade, historic port and Victorian pier. Farther along the coast is the English Riviera, with its micro-climate supporting tall palm trees, well laid-out municipal gardens and busy cafés. Families will find plenty to do in this quiet corner of the south Devon coast, and this Shaldon cottage makes a wonderful base.
