The property

Porlock 0.5 miles.

A welcoming, detached, 1930s period property in a unique setting on a hillside overlooking the village of Porlock in Somerset.

Boasting distant sea and valley views, this lovely cottage is situated in a third of an acre of gorgeous secluded wooded gardens that provide complete privacy.

Reached along a country lane half a mile from Porlock, this bungalow will appeal to those looking for a quiet escape in a more rural location.

This delightful cottage has some interesting furniture and pictures and feels very cosy and homely, especially after the woodburning stove and open fire are roaring in the two reception rooms.

The sitting room opens to a decked area, raised above the stunning landscaped garden with views out to sea; guests will want to lounge here all day long.

The kitchen has a dining area, plus two comfy chairs, making it a very sociable area in which to cook and chat.

There is no need for a car once you arrive as there is a bus service that stops at all local villages, so you can hop on to the bus and then enjoy a leisurely walk back to the cottage.

Alternatively, why not stroll into the village with its independent shops, cafes and narrow streets, or take a walk along the South West Coast Path to Porlock Weir, where you can admire the gorgeous views across the channel?

The dramatic scenery of Exmoor National Park with its abundance of deer, birds and gentle rivers provide ample opportunity for outdoor activities and is directly accessible by the numerous foot and bridle paths that radiate from the village and from the doorstep of the cottage.

This charming woodland property provides a quiet getaway for a couple or family.

About the location

PORLOCK

Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.

Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.
