    • “A Fabulous Cottage for a Lovely Holiday”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “This cottage is a wonderful base to explore this lovely part of Somerset. Every aspect of this cottage is very well appointed. The beds were extremely comfortable with each bedroom equipped with an en-suite bathroom. The kitchen has everything you would need. The living room has a great view to the pool and countryside beyond. There is an outdoor dining space just beyond the living room where we ate and cooked on the barbeque. The pool is heated and we enjoyed a swim every day. TV, DVD and wifi all great. The sauna room was a fabulous bonus. There is lots to do in the area. Our highlights were a day on the West Somerset (steam) Railway, Dunster Castle and Watchet Harbour. We also enjoyed travelling to Yatton (about an hour's drive away) and cycling down the Strawberry Line (a section of national cycle route 26 with very minimal time on public roads) - 9 miles to Cheddar Gorge. Thanks to Sarah, the owner, who was extremely welcoming and keen to help us make the most of our stay. We would love to return one day.”

    • “A memorable holiday.....”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “The cottage and its location were truly wonderful. Although situated on a busy B road the rear of the property had unbroken open aspect. Sarah the owner was really friendly and available yet not intrusive. The cottage was furnished to a very high standard and the beds extremely comfortable. The kitchen, while small, was very well equipped although could have done with a few more knives, we always seemed to run out before the dishwasher was full! We also missed a full length mirror but these are minor niggles and did not detract from what was a lovely holiday. The pool was a nice touch especially as we had such wonderful weather, however, we did realise that it could have been a totally different experience. The other holiday let also shared the pool and if they had used it we would not have had the privacy and peace that we enjoyed during our stay (the other cottage sleeps 9 people). That said it would be ideal for a large party who were renting both properties. The White Horse pup was a mile walk away and we had a nice meal in there one evening. Also check out the Kitnor Tea Rooms at Bossington. The location is ideal for exploring this beautiful area.”

    • “Fabulous accommodation!”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Our group consisted of my partner and I, our 6-month old baby and my partner's 85-year-old mother. She is not very stable on her feet, so it was important that we chose a property that was easily accessible with few steps. The Retreat appealed because it was on one level and both bedrooms had en suite. There were a few steps down to the front door from the driveway, but they were manageable. The furnishings and decor are superb and the beds were super comfy. Travel cot and high chair were provided for baby, which meant we didn't have to squeeze those into the car as well! (Remember your own bedding for the travel cot). The pool area looked nice, but far too chilly for a rainy mid-march. However when it is in use there would not be much privacy in the lounge area, unless you had the blinds down. My partner used the sauna which was fantastic and a nice added extra not usually found in a holiday rental. The owners were lovely and welcoming and we loved the welcome tray with tea (including milk) and biscuits provided. Would highly recommend The Retreat and an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, including Dunster Castle and Village, the West Somerset Steam Railway, Torre Cider Farm, and Exmoor, to name a few.”

    • “Couldn't have been better.”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We have visited this area before and were looking forward to another stay. From the Retreat there was easy access to the Quantock Hills, unspoilt northern Somerset coast and Exmoor and further afield if we had had more time. There are plenty of opportunities for walking just a short drive/steam train ride away and although we didn't use the buses they seemed to run on a fairly regular basis. The property was just as advertised, spotlessly clean and well maintained and the swimming pool was a bonus. The owner was friendly and welcoming and we would certainly like to return one day - even possibly with a group of friends to stay in the larger adjoining house.”

    • “Excellant”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “The Cottage is excellent with everything you require & the sauna is a brilliant addition. It is ideally positioned for all the coastal attractions & scenery. Sarah the owner was very helpful in recommending the places to go & where to eat. We will certainly stay again in the future. Thank you Derek & Pauline & mum who thinks it was perfect.”

    • “Delightful experience”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Welcoming hosts at a charming and well equipped venue. Easy access to some wonderful countryside and interesting jaunts. What a pleasure to hear the toot of the Steam Train and see the smoke in the distance from the West Somerset Railway...rolled back the years! A wonderful spot for small or larger groups.”

    • “The best birthday ever, spent with friends”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We booked the retreat at the end of February to celebrate my 70TH birthday. Our two lifelong friends came with us. The weather was superb but nothing could have surpassed the comfort and amenities in the cottage. Sara and Marco were so friendly and helpful and they provided lots of information on places which would interest us. The steam train and Dunster castle, grounds and the medieval village are not to be missed. We also thoroughly enjoyed the walk from Washford to watched, along the old mineral line. I can't think of anything to dislike about this holiday. It was more than 5*. Thank you so much.”

    • “The sauna & pool area were fantastic, the whole cottage is first rate and local to Minehead & Taunton for shopping. We enjoyed the rest & relaxation so spent much of our time lazing at the cottage. I used the sauna every day, which was 5 star, the entire place was great & we hope to return next year. Also, the hosts were most welcoming, even their dog was super friendly.”

    Miss Shepherd, Dartford, September 2014

    • “My teenage granddaughter loved the swimming pool and sauna! The owners were very friendly & accommodating and able to advise places of interest that were accessible by public transport. The beds were very comfortable and all linen was lovely and clean. It was a lovely place to relax but with plenty to do if you so wished and was suitable for ALL age groups. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we are going to book again for next year.”
