  • "We enjoyed our stay very much."

Mike, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. We did find the traffic noise from the A35 bothersome when outside. Otherwise, the setting was peaceful as described, and the surroundings were beautiful.

  • "Just a small point but it would be better for guests if you provided more cutlery."

We kept running out of teaspoons for instance. But overall the annexe was perfect for our visit to family in Axminster. Very comfy bed, good quality bedding, good kitchen appliances, comfortable lounge, really beautiful grounds, at end of a long drive. Peaceful yet convenient for the A35 for getting out and about.

  • "Comfortable property in a lovely location in a beautiful area of Devon."

Layout of kitchen not particularly convenient, and ensuite bathroom rather small but both more than compensated for by the rest of the property. Friendly, helpful owner who lives in adjoining property. Great place to sit outside with a glass / cup of wine / tea /coffee (delete as wished!) and enjoy the peaceful view. Lots to see in the area (we could happily have stayed a month) - we had a womnderful week and would recommend the Annexe

  • "Mike's cottage annex was one of the most relaxing peaceful stays we've had."

Perfectly located for daytrips to the coast and the Beer Quarries, and as far as Dartmoor and Exmoor. The annex had everything needed for a self catering stay, from a fridge and freezer to a large spacious lounge room with views of his large garden with a clothes line and pegs for our use. The driveway is 200 yards long which ensured a peaceful time and Honiton only 11 miles away for supplies. We would definitely stay here again.

  • "A gem of a hideaway, secret and welcoming."

Great views from all the windows and plenty of outside space to sit, chill out and enjoy. It was smashing for me, all on one level and easy to get around. The bed was comfortable with enough pillows and extra cover if we felt cool. More than enough towels for the compact bathroom and plenty hot water. I sat outside on a sun trap terrace and on the deck reached from the sitting room. A brook burbles and gushes through the garden and goldfinches and blackbirds were so very entertaining as were the woodpeckers flying to and from the nest. A wonderful place for some armchair birdwatching. The garden was a great with trees, shrubs and flowers all slightly wild and romantic with a feel of a real secret garden that was fun to explore. Our host was great, showed us around and very usefully advised which pubs to avoid! It’s a superb position for a day at the beach, not far to Seaton and Sidmouth. Excellent for shopping in Honiton, great butchers, wine shop and a plethora of cakes and other treats to be had. Not far into Somerset are Crewkerne and Ilminster for more cakes, art, music and gentle strolling. An absolutely fabulous holiday break…

The accommodation was spacious and set in a peaceful location - the only negative was the size of the en-suite. It is just off the A35 and provides an ideal base for touring Devon, Dorset or Somerset. Overall I would recommend this property highly and hopefully I will be able to re-book when I next visit East Devon

About the location

HONITON

Ottery St Mary 5.6 miles; Lyme Regis 14.2 miles; Exeter 16.7 miles.

Honiton is a delightful market town in East Devon, with plenty to offer visitors. It lies in the valley of the River Otter and is surrounded by rolling Devon hills, green wooded valleys and plenty of scattered farming villages. Honiton has an attractive High Street stretching almost 2 miles, and lined with individually owned shops, pubs and restaurants. Honiton has been famous for lacemaking since the reign of Elizabeth I and still has a few lacemakers in work today - visitors can see some fine examples of antique lace in the town’s Allhallows Museum. Honiton boasts the only public art gallery in East Devon; the Thelma Hulbert Gallery occupies an attractive Grade I listed Victorian house, and has links with the Hayward Gallery, London. Honiton is only a short drive from the dramatic 20 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site. Resorts such as Seaton, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth are found along this stretch of coastline, and all have much to occupy the visitor. Near to Honiton is the cathedral city of Exeter with plenty of large shops, a wealth of museums, a theatre and fabulous restaurants.
