In the heart of Tarka country in the rolling valleys of North Devon, lies the small village of Umberleigh, a quiet village set around the old three arched Umberleigh bridge by the River Taw. Near the pretty village square with its pub serving local ales and village shop and post office, is the quaint railway station where trains run on the scenic Tarka Line to Barnstaple or Exeter. A ten minute drive from Umberleigh takes you to the historic town of Great Torrington, with independent shops, Dartington glassworks where visitors can watch in wonder at the glassblowers, and on the outskirts of town is Rosemoor a garden of national importance with forty acres to delight and inspire a wide range of visitors. Previous visitors' comments about Dartmoor Cottage:
Friendly owners who made the effort to give the cottage a touch of the festive season and fresh muffins on arrival. Loved the tranquillity and isolation of the area and the proximity to so many things to do - short drive to the coast, not far to lovely little country villages and pubs. A great day trip to explore Exmoor and surrounding coast.
The cottage was so cosy and well equipped - absolute value for money!
Mr Franzmann, London, December 2012
The location of the cottage was great, we were close by to all amenities and places that interested us. The cottage itself was beautiful, the owners had thought of everything and were so helpful and kind.
Mrs Hines, Bungay, August 2012
The cottage was very well fitted out for, particularly the kitchen; extra items like coffee maker. Cot and high-chair were great to have. The cottage felt spacious and clean.
Mrs Bartram, Worthing, August 2012
The friendliness of the owners and their helpfulness together with the facilities at the cottage made this a most enjoyable stay even though the weather was not at its best.
