  • "Back home again after a week at Poppy Lodge."

Great time, very comfortable, homely accommodation and a warm welcome from Ian, our host. The lodge was exactly as we expected and we loved the location - so close to the pub with its fantastic food and the Village Shop too. We miss the chickens

Nice village shop. Easy access to most places. Nice to have an outdoor space for the dog, unfortunately we were not lucky with the weather, but we still managed to visit many places.

The owners (Although were not told about our booking) were very swift on preparing the property, helpful, polite and knowledgeable of the surrounding areas including Weymouth area. We really enjoyed this peaceful location with chicken coops to the side of the properties (no rooster I might add). Thank you very much for the perfect stay at short notice!

I was expecting this property to be part of a big site with many more holiday lodge’s on it. I’m so glad it wasn’t. It was very comfortable, warm, well equipped and an excellent location. I’d happily stay here again. Thank you.

Very comfortable and had everything we needed. Excellent location with the local shop and restaurant just a short walk away. Ideal position for visiting both Somerset and Dorset coastlines. The only suggestion would be to swap the washing machine for a dishwasher :-)

  • "This is the second year running that we have stayed at Poppy Lodge."

The accommodation is spotlessly clean and well equipped and there is nothing else that we can think of that would have improved our stay. It's ideally situated for days out at the coast or towns inland and there is good walking from the property, we would recommend a walk to Cadbury Castle. We'll be back again.

We got out every day as was very lucky with the weather & then Lovely to come back to lodge for relaxing evening & sitting outside enjoying morr fresh air. It was very clean and comfortable, the facilities were excellent, everything you could have wanted. The owners were wonderful, we had a small issue where the microwave broke, we informed them, they took it away and the next day it was replaced with a brand new one! It was so lovely having chickens one side of the lodge and then a field out the back where there were sometimes cows, and they came right up to the fence which my kids loved lol. This is a fantastic holiday home, and we'd definitely go back and stay again!

Not far off the A303. Had the weather been better then this would have been a lovely place to start and finish walks. Due to travel delay (channel ferry) we arrived far later then expected but this wasn't a problem. After a quick phone call alternative arrangements were made but the hosts still came out to welcome us when we arrived at 19:00. 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms were a bonus for us, as our kids like their own rooms. There was plenty of cupboard space not only in the bedrooms but also the kitchen and extra storage in the hall. . The kitchen had enough crockery and cooking gear for guests. Plenty of parking outside the lodge. The lodge was warm and welcoming and the nods to the name, Poppy Lodge, were fun. The garden and terrace looked lovely - places to enjoy in the summer. The eggs from the chickens were delicious ;-) We will certainly return to Poppy Lodge in the future. No dish washer (my fault for missing this but no big deal to wash up!) or hair drier just remember to bring the latter when you com

Shelves needed inside wardrobes. Box of windscreen wipers found under settee in living room. We believe the cottage is too small for six adults, especially the twin bedrooms. We would strongly recommend that owners should live in their rental accommodation for at least a couple of days and would then notice the little things missing, e.g. hooks.

  • "Poppy Lodge was in a great setting - very pretty gardens."

Chickens alongside were very 'watchable' , It was on a sloping plot with quite steep steps to the front door, but also a ramp to the side door. The lounge area was spacious but there was not a lot of room in the bedrooms so would be difficult for someone with mobility difficulties. We loved the atmosphere in the Lodge and the way it was furnished was lovely. It was very well equipped. We found lovely tea rooms in Sherborne and also Sherborne Castle is worth a visit. Wincanton is not far away and The Wagtail next to the Travelodge there offered good meals at ridiculously low prices. The Haynes Motor Museum is a short distance away and also worth a visit. We had a lovely week and thank the owners for letting us stay in their beautifully clean and well maintained lodge. It is worth noting that the directions to Poppy Lodge are in need of updating as the garage is no longer there.

  • "Great holiday lodge."

Bedrooms were nicely set up with lovely decor - all wardrobes were very spacious (but could do with some extra coat hangers & additional storage solutions such as shelves or drawers). Both bathrooms were superb with exceptional power showers & lots of hot water - main bathroom was very, very spacious. Dining table was very large with comfortable chairs, perfect for our family meals. Plenty of crockery & cutlery in the kitchen including plastic cups for the children. Saucepans weren't great, could do with an improved upgrade on these. Sofas were very comfortable, seated 4 adults no problem (not sure where an additional 2 adults would have sat though, our party was 4 adults & 2 children). 2 good flat screen TVs, 1 in the lounge area & 1 in the main bedroom, both attached to the wall - which was much appreciated as they were out of reach of the children. We would have appreciated the TV in the lounge area being larger, it would have made our film viewing in the evening much more enjoyable. Lovely garden & patio area with great views over the field behind us - this would benefit from a gate at the side of the lodge for peace of mind for any guests with children or dogs. Added highlight for us & our children was being right next to the chicken run, we got to watch them every morning after breakfast. The owners were all very friendly & had left some provisions at the lodge for when we arrived, which was a much appreciated welcome. Poppy Lodge is in a great location, this is a beautiful area & we had some great days out.
