Cottages In The Chalk

Two semi-detached characterful former farm cottages believed to date back to the 1880s. Both set into the chalk on the hillside above the attractive rural Dorset village of Dewlish in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area was beloved by Thomas Hardy and is equidistant between the bustling market county town of Dorchester and the charming Georgian town of Blandford Forum. The pretty cottages retain much of their original character having some oak beams and wooden floors; yet have been lovingly converted to provide visitors with all the modern creature comforts, together with warming woodburning stoves in each property. Both cottages offer private outside spaces, The Meal House having a raised, decked, first floor patio complete with a Japanese-style woodburning hot tub, where you can relax and enjoy refreshments taking in the views across the village whilst listening to bird song or the distant moo from nearby cattle! There are scenic rural walks in all directions straight from the cottage doors, then after your exercise, treat yourselves to a drink at the nearby local pub, well known for its selection of real ales and serving good food. There are plenty of interesting places to visit within an easy drive of the cottages, including the nearby picturesque village of Milton Abbas and Milton Abbey, Thomas Hardy’s cottage at Bockhampton and Clouds Hill, Lawrence of Arabia’s cottage or the Martyr’s Museum at Tolpuddle. Alternatively, spend some time enjoying the scenic views along the Dorset Jurassic Coast, drop into the friendly seaside resort of Weymouth for a paddle and some scrumptious fish and chips, or enjoy browsing the shops, market or museums in historic Dorchester. Two comfortable and welcoming cottages offering a warm and cosy rural Dorset holiday base, a real escape to the country, at any time of the year!
