Location: Tolpuddle

Dorchester 8 miles.

The delightful village of Tolpuddle lies deep in the heart of Hardy country, just 8 miles from the bustling market town of Dorchester. Full of character, this village offers a tasteful combination of modern and thatched properties, surrounded by glorious countryside. The lush meadows, watered by the quaintly named 'River Piddle', and the nearby chalk downland provide lovely rural walks. This tranquil village is probably best known for its six famous Martyrs who held the first Trade Union meeting in 1831, and the local museum tells their story. There are plenty of other local attractions including Lawrence of Arabia's cottage, Athelhampton House, The Tank Museum and Monkey World, all of which are well worth a visit. With the delightful towns of Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth, and the stunning Jurassic Coast also easily accessible, this is an ideal base for a varied holiday.

Previous visitors' comments about The Hayloft:

The location of the cottage was ideal to enable us to explore the area. The owner came to see us when we arrived and made us feel welcome and we were left to enjoy our holiday. The standard of the cottage was very good and clean.
Miss Rivett, Chatham, March 2012

The owners are very welcoming and helpful. Every bedroom is ensuite. Every room has a double bed which is a rarity. The cottage has amazing views in every direction and the stables are a nice addition to the views. The oven is huge and was excellent on Christmas day as we were able to roast a turkey and chicken whilst roasting all the veg. It's the small things that make all the difference!
Mrs Ottaviani, Edgware, December 2011

We loved the peaceful, pretty location. The cottage was lovely, very clean and much more spacious than anticipated. The garden was fully enclosed for the dog plus we found the whole Isle of Purbeck area was really dog friendly which made a refreshing change.
Mrs Puffett, Hinckley, October 2011

Great area to stay and visit the many resorts and places of interest. Easy and plentiful parking at cottage.
