  • "This is the third time we have stayed in Mendip Cottage during 2023."

It is an excellent cottage for our requirements - very clean, very comfortable, very good location for accessing family in Bristol, while also allowing us to explore the local area. Thank you Jane and Peter. We intend returning in 2024!

  • "Once again we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Mendip Cottage."

The cottage is private and the grounds secure, which is a great comfort when staying far from home. The cottage is scrupulously clean and very well maintained. This was our second visit and we have already booked a return visit for later in the year, which demonstrates our continuing confidence in this property. Thank you to Jane & Pete, the owners.

  • "Poor level of cleanliness, including dirty windows and frames all round, chrome in bathroom marked and stained, sticky paper residue on chrome toilet roll holder, sticky residue on underside of handbasin, overflow on basin black inside (easily visible when sitting on toilet), extractor fan in bathroom thick with dust and fluff, smelly kitchen sink drain, cooker hood dirty/in need of filter replacement, smoke alarm missing from hallway ceiling."

No full length mirror. The picture on the TV stopped working early on the 2nd evening (before 6pm) and, although this was rectified within 24 hours, it was dealt with as if it were a nuisance for the owners to sort out, instead of an inconvenience for us, and with no apology. We were not informed that the TV was fixed and had to try it out the next evening to see if it was working again. Glasses were smeary and cutlery water-stained, kettle was badly scaled up. We didn't make any complaint whilst at the cottage, as we felt like we were there under sufferance, having booked to stay with our little dog, before they decided to stop allowing pets. We left it this long to post feedback as it's been the subject of a great deal of discussion between us for some time since returning home.

Submitting feedback two months after you vacate your holiday cottage, sadly makes it impossible to check your allegations. Even more sadly, if you had raised any of these points at any time during your holiday, we would have happily come over and discussed it. On arrival I came out to greet you and show you to your cottage. I said that if you had any concerns or questions then to contact us as we lived about 30 metres from Mendip Cottage and were happy to help at any time. We also left a comments and maintenance form in the welcome folder which you chose not to fill out, so we are very much taken aback by your feedback. To specifically address your complaints:- "Poor levels of cleanliness"  We totally refute this statement.  We always clean our properties to the highest standards and I refer you back to our other reviews, including the one from guests who left the day you arrived.Their comment was “ extremely clean, private, and well equipped”. "Extractor fan in bathroom, thick with dust and fluff"  These are hoovered at every changeover. "Smelly kitchen drain" .There has never been a smell from the drains .That is the final item to be cleaned in the kitchen and is always bleached. "Cooker hood dirty in need of filter replacement " We dispute this is dirty as it is cleaned at every changeover. There is no filter requiredas it is a direct extractor to the external air. "Smoke alarm missing from hallway ceiling".  We removed the alarm due to it being activated every time someone opened the bathroom door after showering.  On consultation with our electrician this alarm is not required due to this area being covered by the one in the kitchen, which is only5 metres away. "No full length mirror". It doesn't say there is one on the listing. There is a ¾ length one in the bathroom and a smaller one in the bedroom. "TV stopped working".  The TV picture did stop working, and we immediately went over to try and fix it. After several unsuccessful attempts we apologized for the inconvenience and said there was nothing that could be done that evening and we would rectify it tomorrow when you went out for the day. The next day we removed that tv and put in another one. We did not notify you as we had already promised that we would rectify the problem, which we did, "Glasses and cutlery smeary/water stained". They are washed and dried in a dishwasher. This is the most hygienic way to dry and unfortunately sometimes leaves a few watermarks, which are easily removed if required, with the kitchen paper towels supplied to you. The kettle is regularly de-scaled on changeovers. " Property Owner

Our dog quickly assumed she was ‘home’. The dog paddock was very useful, especially for early morning visits. We were sorry to leave and have every intention of returning. • "We had a lovely week at Mendip cottage."

It is a modern clean and comfortable conversion in a former stable block which has been converted to a very high standard. The open plan kitchen/living area is spotlessly clean and well presented, the king sized bed is delightfully comfy and the wet-room shower is fab. There is ample hot water from a huge storage cylinder which keeps a drying/utility room nicely warm and the whole cottage was comfortably warm in October. The garden was nicely and securely self-contained for our little dog. Perfect location for a couple, convenient for coast and country side.l
