About the location

Gillingham

Shaftesbury 5 miles.

A small bustling North Dorset market town in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, well served by a good selection of local shops, inns, restaurants, and a direct rail link from London to the West Country. The town was immortalised by John Constable's famous painting of The Old Town Bridge, which now hangs in the Tate Gallery. The Blackmore Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is part of the Stour Valley, vividly depicted by Thomas Hardy in Tess of The D'Urbervilles, as 'Vale of the little dairies', with lush green countryside and a 'patchwork quilt' of fields. The area abounds with pretty rural walks and offers numerous National Trust properties and historic houses within a short drive, such as Stourhead, Longleat and Wilton, whilst the wonderful Dorset Heritage Coast is also an easy drive.

Peacemere lived up to it's name, it was quiet and tranquil, which was everything we were hoping for. Although the weather was not that good Peacemere made us feel cosy and warm.

Mrs Jordan, Epsom, March 2014

Peacemere provided a haven of peace and tranquillity at the end of each day, as well as a wonderful venue to catch up with friends and relatives. All in all, completely fabulous.

Ms Bohannan, Randwick, March 2014

A very comfortable and well kept property. Lots of little extras e.g. sewing kit, books, toys and games. Large, well-kept garden with good garden furniture available. Close to Waitrose and other shops. Walking distance of pub (The Dolphin) that sold good food and welcomed the dog. A good location for touring by car. Easy drive to Bath and Salisbury. We would seriously consider visiting again in the summer.

Mr & Mrs Lucking, Southend-on-Sea, December 2013

Very clean and well provisioned accommodation. All you would wish for in a holiday house. Would definitely use again when holidaying in Dorset.

Mr Collie, Harlow, October 2013
