Street 6 miles; Glastonbury 8 miles.
A pretty Somerset village, Moorlynch boasts a thriving village pub, famous for its selection of Somerset ciders and real ales. The village sits beside the Polden Hills and close to Sedgemoor - the low lying marshy area which stretches from the Mendip Hills as far as Taunton, crossed by numerous drainage channels called rhynes, where willows are grown for basket making. This area is popular for bird watching and coarse fishing. Nearby are the towns of Street, famous for the Clarks Shopping Village, and historic Glastonbury, well known for its Abbey, Tor and Festival. Just a little further afield is Wells with its famous Cathedral and there are beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Brean Sands. Wookey Hole Caves and Cheddar Gorge are both easily accessible. About half an hour’s drive to the west are the picturesque Quantock Hills and a little further, Exmoor. Both have fabulous views over the Bristol Channel and superb surrounding countryside with plenty of walks for the energetic, while the West Somerset Railway and Dunster Castle can offer an interesting days excursion.
