  • "We had a great stay here and booked for a last minute break."

Lovely setting and the 3 cottages are within their own secluded areas. The bungalow was very comfortable and well equipped. The lounge and kitchen have had a recent refurb along with the bedrooms. We enjoyed walking down to the beach and exploring the local area. We walked to Abbotsbury via the Hill Fort. A beautiful village, and would recommend Cherries Tea Room. Also walked along Chesil Beach to Burton Bradstock and West Bay. The Manor House in the village wasn't open every evening but very friendly staff in the Cellar Bar. We hope to be back!

  • "We have stayed in mimosa a number of times now."

The owner has been updating the cottage with a new kitchen and new beds and wardrobes. I would say that the cleanliness on arrival was a bit hit and miss. The patio doors were full of nose prints off dogs from the previous occupants and the kitchen cupboards had rather a lot of stains on. The patio area outside needs a good weeding and sweeping up and also there was no logs available as usual. overall we do enjoy staying here and won’t let these issues prevent us from staying in the future.

  • "Great location, lovely view of the sea."

Plenty of outside space for our two dogs to run around (but not enclosed). We enjoyed sitting in the conservatory. The bedrooms are spacious and the layout worked well for four adults. Easy walk to the beach. The cottage is in need of some general maintenance, some internal doors squeak, the shower head hose leaks, and there are no locks between the shower room and twin bedroom, or on the bathroom door, and a window catch in the shower room was broken. The kitchen was equipped to a minimum level, with one of everything for six people. We took our own large non-stick cooking pan, and steamer. A BBQ would have been a useful addition, and outside loungers to get full benefit from the sunny patio area, as would an outdoor clothesline to dry our towels each day, but we improvised and really enjoyed our stay.

  • "We chose Mimosa cottage for a holiday as I am suffering from a life limiting progressive illness."

This would have been our 5th visit to Mimosa and the cottage is set in a small orchard looking out to sea. It is a lovely quiet and relaxing place to stay and since our last visit the kitchen has been upgraded to a good standard. Apart from the steep drive wave I have always found the cottage to be manageable with reguards to my disability. However some aspects of the cottage are beginning to look rather tired. The 2 bathrooms have not had any upgrade since our 1st visit many years ago. The shower chair is is the same one that has been there since we first visited. This has become rather rusty with parts seized and looking tired. The grabrails in both bathrooms are rusting and unslightly. The same loosè toilet seat with peeling surface is fitted on the toilet in the main wet room. The floor in the wet room floods and water ends up in the bedroom on the tiled floors. Many of the double glazed units in the conservatory area have condensation inside, this has also been the case for many years. The conservatory is the ideal place to make hoist transfers from a wheelchair but it's cluttered with big plants which hamper the space you have. I appreciate it is very difficult to find properties with suitable facilities for the severely disabled but apart from an update to lto the facilities at Mimosa it would be very nice if an investment could be made to help the disabled have a more enjoyable holiday This could possibly include a ceiling track hoist. I have hired hoisting equipment for this holiday but it is very expensive and I would be happy to pay a small charge if the owners invested in some equipment to help. Knowing how few properties there are suitable for disabled people I think it would be a sound investment for the owners to facilitate equipment for the more Severely disabled.

Very clean and comfortable cottage, in lovely surroundings with great views of the sea. The conservatory was a great space for my dog to sleep in, with plenty of room for him to wander around. Great shower room with proper shower chair, bars everywhere to help her transfer and easy access for us to help her in the night with the jack and jill bathroom, she didnt need her seat raiser as the toilet is already higher. Access was ideal with lots of space for wheelchair/ scooter etc. It was clean and spacious in a beautiful setting and there was enough of everything to live and cater for the week. Lots of room for the dog crate and for him to exercise in the conservatory. No need to publish the following as we did have a lovely time. Small negatives:- The toaster only had one side working. The shower tends to run all over the place including the double bedroom so a mop would have been useful to dry and to clean. The mattress on the single bed I slept in was a bit tired, the springs made themselves known. To be really picky a riser recliner would have been ideal but I know that's not an essential for most visitors. Apologies for forgetting to turn the dishwasher on, I remembered when we were half way home.

  • "Brilliant location and views are amazing."

Good amount of space, but quite a lot of furniture if one of the party is staying in a wheelchair. There is space to move things around as long as one of the party is strong enough. I suspect the owner would help if needed as he seemed very nice. The photos on the website don't do the place justice as it has been decorated with a new kitchen and furniture. Likewise the instructions in the property explain how to use the previous appliances. The only downside is the double bed is quite small and seems to be balanced on a smaller bed base. This means a wheelchair user has the choice about which side of the bed to sleep on which may not be possible with a larger bed in the room. The beach really is only 5 mins away, as is a fabulous restaurant (not open on Mon&Tues). If you have a dog, the gardens aren't enclosed, but they are expansive!

It would be useful if there was a fence and gate across the entrance to the garden and that the entry gate and fence were dog secure ( too easy for a small dog to get through) so you can let the dog be free to go in and out of the property with the patio doors open. Other than that the place was great and we had a wonderful time.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great position, loads of space."

Our autistic adult son loved it, the view of the sea and the garden and the quiet position. The connected shower room was useful for me to help him when required with personal care. It was a shame we had to leave early on the Tuesday instead of the Friday as he had decided beforehand that he only wanted to go for a long weekend due to ongoing worries about the pandemic, amongst other reasons he couldn’t explain (Autistic logic!) as last year’s cottage holiday had to be cancelled. We did not change the booking as we thought he might change his mind. The only thing was that the double bed was not comfortable for us, and thought a bigger hotel size bed would still fit in that room. We are used to a King size bed and the restless sleeper stopped the partner sleeping too as the bed was so springy and small. Also the sinks in the shower room and bathroom are very small. My son’s big hands filled it up and he had difficulty using it for washing when not showering. It was great to have the extra space and chairs in the lobby area and choice to spend time away from lounge area, and also the seating in the garden. We had a lovely time and would go again, except my autistic son likes to go to a different cottage every year. I would definitely recommend this people especially with disabled relatives or friends.

Following COVID 19 Lockdown etc. he wanted to cancel the holiday. You did not respond to any of our emails and we could not contact you by 'phone. In the end we felt that we had no option but to continue with the holiday. ironically, upon informing you that we were still going on holiday, we immediately received a reply via email. Luckily for us our latest lockdown (Wrexham) occurred whilst we were on our last day of holiday. Although the accommodation was nice, a dishwasher would have been welcomed, especially when considering COVID 19 decontamination. We had no advice or assistance regarding the cancellation or transfer of the holiday to another date. This experience has meant that we will never consider booking another holiday through Sykes. Although being advised that the Post Code should not be used for SatNav purposes, it would have been useful to mention that the actual Post Code given in the instructions was that of the Owners home address, not the holiday cottage! This was approx. 12 miles away near Weymouth, not West Bexington, where the property was.

The location is fantastic with lovely views from the little patio area by the lawn and the grounds around the cottage are lovely with lots of areas to explore and a field for dog walking too. There are also great walks from the property for our doggy. THe Wifi and TV services are excellent. Only one small negative for us, the sofa was not comfortable but that is just a personal thing - it did mean we didn't relax in the evenings as much a we normally do when away. The parking is excellent so close to the entrance and the spaces are big so wheelchair access is allowed for.

The gardens of the cottage are vast (be careful if you have a wandering dog) and again beautiful with exceptional views. In terms of condition and facilities this is what let’s the cottage down. It is fully wheelchair adapted ( not just accessible) which is a great point and sizing of bedrooms and conservatory are fine but the open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area is very small and restricted. The overall cleanliness was good on arrival except for the windows outside. The kitchen is in a bad need of replacement and really the whole place needs a total refit to bring it up to date and to also, in my opinion, make it value for money. It needs to include basics like a dishwasher in this modern world and new hard and soft furnishings, especially the outside garden furniture needs replacing. The bedroom wardrobes are a curtain across a rail at low level in the corner! Whilst this cottage advertises from £479 price tag, when you pay £1200 for 1 week in July it is not value for money. Would I come again? I would certainly come to the location without doubt and if I was paying around £500 I would feel it acceptable and value for money, but not with a £1200+ price tag.

As a wheel chair user I find that the cottage meets my needs and I am able to remain independent. I have found that a lot of wheelchair friendly cottages are not as good as they claim to be. Mimosa cottage is all on one level and the fixtures are designed for the disabled. The only minor comments I would make, but not criticisms, are, the beds are a little low and the cottage would benefit from an update. Apart from the steep drive to access the cottage, all other areas are easy to negotiate in a wheelchair. We will be visiting again soon.
