Stylish, Rural, peaceful. Comfortable beds, fully furnished. No light pollution meaning all the stars can be clearly seen. Fenced in garden area with table & chairs. My two dogs loved it. Would definitely stay again. Went into close by towns Weymouth,Dorset & Poundbury. To the hosts thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. x

The cottage had everything we needed and more, rooms clean and tidy, lots of space for our dog to roam around. The owner was there to meet us, very helpful and gave us all the information we needed regarding the cottage and local area. Would highly recommend and i will be returning for another relaxing break next year.

  • "The cottage is in the middle of a dairy farm, lovely scenery, and stunning sunsets."

There are also stables on site. Mappowder Cottage is a nice size for a family of four, and dog friendly. Has WiFi, which is great as had two teenagers with us! Some board games, books and dvd’s in the cottage. Magnetic darts and bagatelle were the favourites. Elizabeth and Jeremy, the owners, live next door to the cottages and were very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the wine, flowers and crisps! Great base for exploring Dorset. Bowleaze Beach is dog friendly and parking is right next to beach. We also enjoyed the Heavy Horse Centre, which is also dog friendly. The only problem I had was getting in the bath for a shower, the bath is a lovely roll top, but very high for somebody with a dodgy hip. We had a lovely short break.

  • "Cottage in very poor, dirty marks on walls, dirty windows, dripping tap, Outside bedroom door."

Not very much crockery , electric oven was a night mare to use. Problems with locking door and gate. Furniture in very poor state, uncomfortable lumpy needs replacing. Would not give this accommodation more than a one star. This is the worst property I ever stayed at.

I am very sorry your stay was so unhappy. Windows have been cleaned in the last month. There are over 50 items of crockery items (plates , bowels, mugs etc. The cooker is an ordinary cooker and works the same as most cookers. There are instructions. The door opens perfectly and the gate has a secure latch. The two new sofas, replaced at the beginning of the year are handmade by Balmain and Balmain of Salisbury and are feather filled and of the highest quality. There is a 17thc chest full of games and antique table etc. Please see comments from other guests who seemed very happy. Property Owner

This was our second stay here and it didn't disappoint us. The owner, Elizabeth, is on hand if any issues may crop up (didn't need to ask her anything this time) and nothing is any trouble. The cottage is well equipped, clean and comfortable. The area is extremely quiet and very rural. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hope that you all have a memorable holiday.

  • "Lovely welcoming owner."

Peaceful location. Well equipped cottage with very comfortable beds, and a good size enclosed garden. However, sofas in lounge not comfortable and the outdoor furniture positively uncomfortable. The roll top bath with overhead shower looked lovely, but as it was quite high, with no handrail, or anti slip mat, one had to be exceedingly careful when getting in and out. We were aware of the rural location, but it did tend to get a little tiresome having to drive up to an hour each day to get to some of the places we wished to visit. Overall, a very pleasant property, and we did enjoy our stay.

It was spacious and in a very peaceful rural location, the traffic on the long access drive was mainly passing dairy cows. The property is a bit remote in deepest Dorset with long drives down country lanes to get to anywhere of consequence. Ideal for a get-away-from-it-all break.

What a wonderful place to stay. The cottage is very well equipped, spacious and beds and sofas very comfy. The cottage is decorated with many pictures that Elizabeth (the owner) as painted. Pretty enclosed garden to sit out in the sunshine. Although off the beaten track, the cottage is in a great situation to reach Sherbourne, Winchester, Weymouth etc. We visited the above place including Blue Pool (beautiful) and Monkey World. • "We booked Mappowder cottage, as we were waiting to move into our new house which was taking longer than expected to complete."

The cottage was very comfy, cosy and warm during a very cold spell in late November early December. We had everything we needed to make our stay a very pleasant one. The bedrooms were particularly splendid with beautiful crisp white cotton linen and huge cushions which gave a touch of understated decadence. The bathroom again was beautifully clean and bright with a rather magnificent roll top bath. We found Elizabeth and her husband to be very kind and considerate hosts. As we were staying in the cottage for a month, it was like a home from home, with added the extra of beautiful country views and lovely walks for our dog along the safe and long private driveway to the property. Elizabeth has her own horses stabled a short distance away and has great facilities for horse lovers who want to bring their horse or horses with them on holiday. Even if you are not into horses, it is lovely introduction to meet the two very good-natured horses who make wonderful neighbours. It is a great place for a short on long break, as there is lots to see and do for all ages. It is also a delightful quiet place to spend some time just chilling. We would certainly recommend Mappowder cottage, we would have happily stayed there longer, if we had needed to,

The cleanliness was not up to standard. Owner did ask about it as she has a new cleaner but there were many areas that needed a good clean.: windows, skirting boards, cobwebs, microwave inside, cooker hood, dust on some surfaces. Cottage was comfortable and bedding etc was all clean, everything we needed was there. Garden being totally enclosed was great as we could let dog out on her own safely. Enjoyed our time there but could have been even better.

A charming pair of cottages, beautifully presented, well equipped, very warm, in a lovely rural setting. These cottages are down a long private drive, safe for walking and children to ride their bikes. The owners were resident in the country house next to the cottages, they were very welcoming and available if needed. There are stables, a dairy and a riding school which was an added attraction for the children in our party, daily visits to the stable doors to see which ones were occupied, and watching the riders in the riding ménage from Maple cottage windows. . The gardens had outdoor furniture for outside dining. Weymouth beach took us about 50 minutes through beautiful rolling countryside with amazing views. We visited the Gaggle of Geese pub in Buckland Newton for dinner one evening. Excellent food, friendly service and lots of outside space to allow for social distancing. Can recommend, as this was a five minute drive from the cottages. All in all can highly recommend both Mappowder and Maple cottages for a relaxed, rural stay but with easy access to nearby towns and beaches.

It has everything that you need and is a great home from home. Elizabeth, the owner, was on hand at all times but wasn’t unobtrusive and greeted us on arrival, nothing was too much trouble for her. The cottage was really clean and considering the current climate with COVID-19 we felt completely safe. The cottage is out in the sticks with lovely views, walks on the doorstep and a completely secure garden, a must for us as we have a dog. The mobile signal is a bit hit and miss (we were on Vodafone) but that wasn’t an issue for us. We would definitely recommend this place and if we visit that area of Dorset again in the future won’t hesitate in booking again. Thank you for allowing us to spend time in your property.

The owners were very welcoming and laying on a very generous welcoming pack which we greatly appreciated. The property is situated a mile down a farm road easy to access. The roads in this area are mostly country lanes so a satnav is a must. The property has an open fire but we found it to be warm enough with the central heating and this was November we attended.
