West Stour is a small village situated on the borders of South East Somerset and North Dorset, and is part of a group of villages known as 'The Stours', so named as the River Stour, popular with anglers, passes close by. Located on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, used as a backdrop to Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, the surrounding countryside is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, rich in wildlife and boasting some lovely rural walks. Only a short distance from West Stour is a wealth of National Trust properties including the stunning house and gardens at Stourhead, with picturesque Shaftesbury and historic Sherborne, with its Abbey and Castle, just a little further. The beautiful cities of Bath and Salisbury are within easy reach, while Stonehenge and the Dorset coast are easily accessible.

Previous visitors' comments about Thornhill:
From the living room in Thornhill you have a wonderful view over a beautiful landscape and it is not too far away from Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath, the Jurassic Coast and many other interesting sites in South West of England. We had a wonderful stay there and I am sure that we will come back.
