The small market town of Sturminster Newton is set on the banks of the River Stour, reached via a graceful, six arch 15th century bridge, carrying a warning of deportation for those who damage it! The whole area acted as inspiration for the works of Thomas Hardy, who wrote Return of The Native, whilst living in the town. The region is dotted with thatched cottages, rural walks, stunning country views, and fascinating towns, such as Sherborne, with its abbey and castle, whilst the beautiful Dorset Heritage coastline is also within easy reach, making this an ideal base all year round!

Previous visitors' comments about Magnolia Cottage:
It was very warm, comfortable and a pleasure not to have to take towels and bed-linen which was beautifully clean and fresh. The owners couldn't do enough to make our holiday a pleasure.

It is in a rural setting and is very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed our time there very much. Would go again and would recommend to others.
Mr Guild, Palm Harbor, August 2012
We enjoyed the isolation - the peace and quiet and the wildlife surrounding the cottage and in the garden. The owners were very nice and helpful. The cottage was better than the photographs portrayed and overall we were very happy with the cottage from day one.
Mr Morris, Worksop, June 2012
