  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shipton Hill View."

The bungalow was more spacious than we expected, is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. The garden is ideal for children and our cocker spaniel loved it. The bungalow is ideally located for exploring the Dorset Coast. Nearby is Hive Beach for coastal walks and the most amazing chips

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are so glad you had such a great stay. Property Owner

  • "We very much enjoyed our second break at Shipton Hill View this October with our Labradors."

The garden is perfect for them, and the area is one that we love, we particularly like Hive Beach and Charmouth for trips with the dogs. The property is a very comfortable home from home and we have already booked to return next summer. The only criticism we have is the lack of any welcome pack. Not even any milk in the fridge or a single tea bag!

We are so glad you had such a lovely holiday and are returning next year. We used to supply a welcome pack through Sykes but the contents were rarely used. We refill the coffee, tea and sugar canisters together with dog biscuit caddy when we are there but obviously these had all been used up. There should also be cartons of milk in the cupboard. It is certainly something we will review as I totally agree that after a long journey, the first thing I need is a cup of tea! Property Owner

  • "Lovely property in a fantastic setting."

Nice big enclosed garden for the dog. We were a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the property and the sofa’s could do with updating, very uncomfortable. Kitchen very well equipped.

Thank you so much for taking the time to clarify the cleanliness issues directly with us. We have spoken to the Sykes cleaning team to ensure those areas are attended to. We have prided ourselves on the 100% cleaning reviews over the years and hope this now continues. We are also looking into replacing the sofas this winter. We are glad you otherwise enjoyed your say. The only let down was the very high step into the property, making it difficult to get in and out of the bungalow. Especially difficult for me as I have a prosthetic leg.

Thank you . We have now been down to see the new porch and do agree with your comment about the step. We now have a step in place . So pleased you enjoyed it otherwise. Property Owner

  • "We have just enjoyed a lovely peaceful break in this beautiful immaculate property, with our two Labradors Theo (13 1/2 yr old ) and Dora (2 1/2 yr old) We loved everything about Shipton View even though we had wet weather, the views and the lovely light spacious rooms were perfect for reading and resting, lovely walks nearby and our favourite beaches of Hive, West Bay, Charmouth and Lyme Regis close by."

The dogs enjoyed the garden as this was perfect for both of them. The only complaint was that the side gate was not secure and Dora quickly found her way out! We remedied this by resting a bag of pebbles by the gate to keep it closed. We would definitely like to return for another holiday soon, absolutely loved this home from home.

Thank you and glad you had a lovely time. I have spoken to the builders who are there today doing some work and they will secure the gate for us to prevent any more naughty Labrador’s escaping . Thank you for letting us know Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property that was comfortable and clean."

The only thing that would have improved it is the side gate being secure as then our dog couldn’t have got out from the garden. Plus a bigger TV in the lounge and TVs in the bedrooms. But the property was very well kitted out and very comfortable with spectacular views. These suggestions are really only to make a 9/10 property a 10/10 property.

Thank you for the feedback and we were at Shipton Hill just before you and had agreed that exactly both those things needed addressing so we have a larger TV to install and the gate is in hand . Glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Lovely bungalow, it had everything you could want and more, only 2 slight things we would change, put a larger television in the lounge and condense some of the pots and pans as there isn’t an empty cupboard to store food."

Otherwise it was perfect for 6 adults one being disabled. 5 stars for facilities the 4 stars is for maintenance, we reported a fault with the boiler timer to dream cottages and it wasn’t fixed by the time we left, although the boiler worked fine we just used the thermostat to turn it off at night.

Thank you for your feedback which we always find very useful. We are installing a larger television as you are not the only guests to mention this. We are having a shuffle about of the kitchen cupboards to ensure that there is plenty of space for food. The boiler is now fully functioning! Many thanks Property Owner

Disappointed that there was no line in the garden, only a very small airer which we lifted on to the patio. Would be better if either the airer was larger or there was a garden washing line. Lovely location, facilities excellent. Very clean loved the mattresses toppers, sheer heaven Garden would benefit from an umbrella but saying that we have already booked for next year, can't wait.

  • "Comfortable property with an amazing view, lovely enclosed garden for guests with dogs, plenty of room to accommodate six people."

After all the effort the owners have gone into to make this accommodation luxury we think they would be disappointed with cleanliness, bathrooms grubby and stained pillows and mattress’s, free standing log burner full of ash and glass dirty, same for the fireplace in the bedroom. Such a shame this let this property down.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our holiday home. We have indeed gone to great lengths to refurbish the property to such a high standard so any areas we need to address will be done so immediately. Kind regards Julie Attfield Property Owner

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We have had the property in our family for many years and we are thrilled with the refurbishments. The bungalow was lovely, spacious, welcoming, and with lots of little touches like the "library" with local info and local interest. I can devour books on walks so these were especially useful. We twice scaled Shiton Hill and waked several of the footpaths around. The dog loved the garden, ideal for a lurcher to do circuits, fully fenced and with neighbours who also had dogs so such a dog friendly environment. The shower in the bathroom worked well and so useful to have a separate toilet.Dog also loved the morning sun shining through the windows. The heating system was a bit of a mystery, hopefully those who came after are more adept with the technology. The information regarding recycling needs updating, all local authorities seem to have their own schemes. All in all a lovely week.

The village of Shipton Gorge has its first reference in the Domesday Book of 1086. It has an early 15th century church tower, a 13th century font and the exterior is floodlit for much of the year making it an important feature of the village both day and night.
