Arguably one of Somerset's prettiest villages, Nunney is dominated by England's smallest castle, built in the 14th century and surrounded by a picturesque moat. Sadly ruined during the Civil War, the castle still commands an attractive, much-photographed, centre piece to the village. Local amenities include a tea room, shop, newsagent, post office and a pub serving good food and real ales, whilst the annual August street fayre is well-known for its carnival atmosphere! The nearby town of Frome offers a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as regular events at The Merlin Theatre. Alternatively visit Longleat House, gardens and safari park, or Stourhead, both a short drive, whilst ancient Glastonbury, Wells cathedral, Wookey Hole, and the majestic cities of Bath and Salisbury are all easily accessible. The very nice place, the cosiness and the atmosphere in the cottage. Also the very nice wood-stove, the settees, carpet on the floors, the nice beds and so on. The people who looked after this cottage were very friendly and helpful! It was a perfect stay and we are looking forward to the next time!
