Stable Cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. It's within an easy walk of the town centre, restaurants and the little Quay theatre. I had a really enjoyable week.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, cottage is lovely & cosy, close to the town centre and great to have off road parking. Our host Jenny was very friendly and accommodating. Loved our week there, just a shame about the weather but didn’t spoil play. Highly recommend and Sudbury is a lovely market town. Many thanks Jenny!

It’s a very clean, comfortable & cosy place. Only a 10 minute walk to the town shops, local walks and a short drive to NT properties, attractive Suffolk villages & Apex Theatre at Bury St Edmunds. Although we’ve usually visited Stable Cottage during Autumn we hope to return sometime during a different season.

Jenny the owner was lovely, she met us when we got there and told us everything we needed to know, there was also bread, butter, marmalade, milk and home made cookies waiting for us. The whole cottage was spotless and so cosy, the beds were super comfortable, bathroom large with a really powerful shower with lots of hot water. We would definitely recommend this gorgeous cottage and will hopefully be back soon.

Property advertised with WI-FI but only worked sporadically, also affecting the tv internet channels. Agree with previous comments that bar stools at the table would be best replaced with proper chairs. Also found sofas rather soft and uncomfortable. Perturbed when was chased early morning for time we were vacating the property/return of key. Written instructions from Sykes were to put in the key safe outside on leaving.

  • "The cottage was light, spacious and clean."

It was well equipped and comfortable. However we would agree with previous reviews that chairs for the dining table would be more acceptable than stools.. Stable cottage was convenient for the town, and also river and meadow walks. Sudbury is a busy town with many independent shops and a good market. The walk from Sudbury to Bures was extremely scenic, with a rail replacement bus to return to Sudbury. There are so many nearby walks around Long Melford and Nayland incorporating some interesting old churches. There are also many coffee shops and restaurants. We recommend 'The Codfather' for fish and vegetarian dishes.

  • "The property is very well located both for the town centre and for walking along the old railway line path and across the water meadows."

It was clean and pretty comfortable - particularly when we had turned the mattress on the double bed to counteract a bit of a slope to one side. It is rather odd that the accommodation seems to have been designed without the inclusion of a normal dining table and chairs. We managed with the little drop leaf table and small stools provided but the arrangement doesn't encourage lingering over a meal (and it must be difficult to get 4 people round the table). The property description includes "fridge/freezer" so we were surprised to discover there was only a fridge with a small freezer compartment.

Jenny, the owner, was there to welcome us and proved to be a very helpful and charming hostess. We appreciated her welcome pack of milk, bread, butter, marmalade and home made cookies. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and has recently been repainted. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom is modern with a walk-in shower. We slept well, despite the occasional traffic noise. The location of the cottage is perfect, as it only takes a few minutes to walk to the historic town square, local restaurants, supermarkets and the lovely meadows. Sudbury is the ideal base for visiting nearby Long Melford, Cavendish, Clare, Lavenham and Bury St. Edmunds as well as for longer trips to the coast, Sutton Hoo and Flatford Mill. There is so much to explore in this peaceful and picturesque county that we will definitely be back.

Excellent location for exploring the Stour Valley, Suffolk and the Essex coast. Very well equipped - all the required kitchen accessories to make feeding a family easy. Comfortable beds and bathroom. If you had an easily-woken baby or are sensitive to road noise then the squeaky floorboards and proximity to the road would need to be considered. Very friendly and helpful host - nothing too much trouble. Would definitely stay again.

The cottages is light and airy and having stable door open was great. The lovely villages to visit locally as well as the one hour trip to find the sea at Felixstowe were a lovely surprise as never visited this area previously. Lots of walks and definitely a relaxing weeks holiday. Would have liked to have seen a breakdown of your company charges on the initial first page on your web site and also explained when speaking to your call centre who offered to complete the booking as I was having difficulty with my internet and then adding of a further small charge for that service.I was only given the total of my booking on the phone. I obviously expected a charge but on questioning the amount of £65 after receiving my receipt of my last minute booking I was told it is not a set amount or a percentage of the cost but automatically worked out. I am not criticising your follow-up emails or call centre service just your transparency of booking charges.

About the location

SUDBURY

Colchester 15.5 miles; Dedham Vale 11.2 miles

This small market town in Suffolk boasts pretty half-timbered houses, characterful sloping roofs and is home to the famous painter Thomas Gainsborough. Take a stroll along Gainsborough Street and down a little alleyway where you will find Gainsborough House, his birthplace and where he resided for many of his younger years. In this modest, late-medieval brick house is a marvellous collection of some of his finest work to be admired. Resting in the Stour Valley in an Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty, the surrounding majestic countryside of Sudbury is what inspired most of his paintings. Stroll along the River Stour and soak up the tranquil atmosphere or meander through The Croft with its green lawns and pretty wildlife, a lovely spot to take the kids to feed the ducks. Enjoy the beautiful architecture in the area, Sudbury presents a combination of Victorian terrace houses, Georgian manor houses and medieval timber framed Halls. Belle Vue Park is a lovely spot for kicking back and watching the world go by and there is an array of shops in the town to delight in. This ancient market town is only fifteen miles from Colchester where you will discover Colchester Castle, an 11th century edifice and manicured grounds, Hollytrees Museum showcasing local history exhibits, Colchester Zoo and the stunning High Woods Country Park. Sudbury is also not too far from the coast so why not take a day trip and explore the 350 miles of stunning shoreline in Essex, it is one of the most diverse places of surprising, natural wild beauty.
