Ideal for touring North Skye. Warm and very welcoming. Highly recommended

  • "Loved our stay here."

House was spotless on arrival with a thoughtful welcome gift in the kitchen - much appreciated. Kitchen was well stocked with a good range of pots and pans, ideal for us as we have 2 dogs and eat in rather than out. Rooms were a good size. Double bedrooms having their own en suite was ideal. Upstairs bedroom having the bath was most welcome. Would definitely return in the future. Staffin was an ideal base for us. Will return with other family members as the house is ideal to support 2 families and allowing both some privacy. Upstairs sitting room ideal for this.

) whilst retaining a lot of 'old worldy' charm and in a location that was perfect in terms of being away from it all but near a shop and plenty of attractions. The only thing we would suggest as an improvement is making sure the cooking knives are sharpened every week - as they were a bit blunt - but other than that we would highly recommend this cottage and the location.

  • "The cottage is spacious and has everything you need for a comfortable stay."

The wine and chocolates were a kind generous touch. The directions to the cottage are useless. The directions should read....as you come into Steffan from Portree there is a signpost directing on the right to Steffan campsite. Take the track to the campsite. First you pass a cottage on your left then carry on down the track passing the entrance to the campsite and just after this at the bottom of the short hill is the cottage.

Lovely clean and tidy cottage with all the equipment you could need. The photos don’t do it justice. Great location and base for all things Skye. Beds comfy, hot water all the time. There’s a little TV if you can’t be without one, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine (filter one), proper cooker - bit old school but worked perfectly. Nice little touches like a doggy welcome pack etc. very thoughtful hosts. We didn’t see the host when we were there - but had no need to contact them as we had no problems. Would definitely stay there again. There were 6 adults and 2 dogs in our group - plenty of room for everyone!

  • "Fantastic property."

Everything you need to have a relaxing holiday with all the comforts of home. I managed to have a phone signal with EE on the property but not all my family did. The Wi-Fi is great as we had our 17 & 18 year old with us who cannot be without their phones. Great walk up to the cliffs for the dog & down to Staffin beach if your dog is able. Our 14 year old lab/collie cross is a bit old for that now. We had no problem finding the property despite some of the review feedback on here. Can get cold at night as Skye is pretty windy so make sure you have warm clothes with you. Heating was on in the property so that helped majorly. Overall we had a fab holiday. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback and your comments re the wifi. Much appreciated. Property Owner

  • "Our party consisted of 19 month year old Munro, accompanied by Mum & Dad, both sets of Grand Parents and two dogs (Bailey a small Cockerpoo & Cally a Jack Russell / Lhaso cross, basically a hairy Jack Russell)."

Cottage was lots better than advertised, spotlessly clean, with a cot & high chair for Munro. There was a TV in the sitting Room, but we decided to live without TV for a week and stored the TV out of Munros reach in a bedroom. We had taken a compression Stairgate with us which prevented Munro (and the dogs) exploring upstairs. There is also a stream at the bottom of the garden, which having a Toddler in attendance could be an issue, but we had a surplus of Grandparents in attendance to prevent any incidences. There is a porch useful for storing boots etc;. No coat hooks though. We found the Pram and other larger walking items were better stored under the canopy which joins to the cottage at the rear. Wi-fi works fine, but no phone signal. Electric Cooker is caravan size, rings, grill and oven all work, but don't believe the setting marked on the cooker control switches, requires experimentation. There was a Washing Machine which had been a washer dryer in an earlier life, the dryer function doesn't work, but as the campsite the cottage is part of has a laundromat this is not a problem. Large Fridge / Freezer. Only one Tea Towel, but when we spoke to the owner as we left She told us that She could have given us more if we had asked. Dogs loved the enclosed well maintained garden. If you are looking for night life you will be disappointed as Staffin doesn't have a pub or anything. There is a Mace in Staffin which can supply your general needs, connected to the Mace is "The Hungry Gull" café which was only open for carry outs when we were there. Order carry out via phone or e-mail and they give you a pick-up time. There is a bus service to Portree, last bus back leaves Portree just before 6 p.m. Staffin is crofter country, so Sheep grazing free, so be aware with dogs and keep them on leads unless you know that no Sheep are around. There is a 45 min walk to Staffin Beach /Slipway starting from a gate inside the Campsite 2 mins from the Cottage, Ground on the walk pretty boggy, and descent too Staffin Beach /Slipway steep, but dogs could get off the lead for a good part of the walk. We had a back pack to carry Munro, you wouldn't have managed with a pushchair. Beach by the Slipway rocky when tide is in, but sandy when tide is out and dinosaur footprints are visible. You can also obtain a mobile phone signal on the beach. 15 mins drive to Old Man of Storr, 5 mins to Kilt Rock, 7 mins to Lealt view point. Dinosaur Museum 5 mins away, not a lot to see in it, but makes a rainy day venue. Cuillins are over 1hr drive away. There is a cafe / restaurant attached to Columba 1400 leadership training establishment, good for a scone / cup of coffee or a meal, nice choice of food on the menu and a specials board and wonderful views. Owners of Cottage couldn't be more helpful, if you require anything just ask. Providing you are not looking for busy night life, this is the perfect location and holiday property.

Thank you for your comprehensive review, especially the details about things to do and see in the area. For information, the cooker is not a caravan size cooker and is a standard size, but appreciate that some families may have larger appliances at home. Property Owner

Double beds mattresses old. Unfortunately it was a very cold wet and windy week on Skye and there was no heat in the cottage from 9 til 4 . We left early to go South where the good weather was.

Thank you for your feedback. We can assure you that the mattresses are not old and are replaced on a regular basis with hotel contract mattresses. When we spoke and you advised you were leaving early, you stated the weather as the reason and made no mention of the heating, which is very efficient as other customers have mentioned. The week of your stay was indeed wet and cold weather and we hope that you may return to Skye in the future and experience better weather. Property Owner

The picture on your site does not show the property to it’s best as it is an extremely attractive house set in a fantastic space and captures the sun most of the day. There is a small campsite immediately in front of the property which is extremely quiet. The only negative is that the lounge does not have a proper fireplace with stove or open fire which would be more inviting and cosy in cool evenings, but that is just a personal observation . The rooms and furniture, including beds, were very comfortable. Kitchen and appliances/utensils were more than adequate and very clean. Whilst we appreciate that a holiday on Skye is a "getaway " and a place to enjoy the peace and quiet the only downside to the cottage was no WIFI. Although that would not stop us booking the cottage again. We would definitely recommend this cottage to our friends and family. The major plus for us is the fact that the cottage is dog friendly. The cottage was cosy, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, crockery etc and catered perfectly for our needs. There is a bbq, lovely outdoor table and chairs but there is so much to do we didn't have time to use them. The cottage has a very peaceful feel to it. Situated next to a well run quiet campsite this did not impinge on our enjoyment in anyway. The grass hadn't been cut and was like a meadow until mid week. At one point painters arrived to do the external walls, they left as they didn't want to encroach on our holiday. we were abused by a very disturbed camp site resident after asking him very politely to turn his music down a little as we had put up with it all afternoon, to say that his language was a little blue is a massive understatement, I was pleased that there were no children in the vicinity. I had to go to the site office to ask them to take some action before I did! Overall the issues had a negative effect on the enjoyment of our trip and was a little disappointed, I was told that Alan from the site had informed the owners and that they might be in touch, as yet they have not.
