Location: Dunvegan, Isle Of Skye

Portree 22 miles.

The village of Dunvegan is set in the north west of Skye and contains a mixture of traditional stone and modern houses along with a selection of shops and hotels. About a mile from the village is Dunvegan Castle, home to the Clan Macleod, who have continuously occupied the castle since the 13th Century, and are said to have had dealings with the "wee folk" at the Fairy Bridge. Also in the area are the Cuillin Mountains with their fantastic rock forms and pinnacles, which many climbers would put at the top of their list. Other attractions on the Isle are plentiful - visit Portree, the island’s only town, set around its natural harbour, which boasts an excellent range of shops, hotels and restaurants, and also offers Sea Eagle trips from the pier, which are extremely popular.

Previous visitors' comments about The Ghillie’s Cottage:

We loved the situation of this cottage; it was picturesque with beautiful views over the loch. Isolated and peaceful yet an excellent centre for exploring the north of Skye. Having its own little hill loch and the use of a good rowing boat was a lovely bonus. We were very comfortable in the cottage. Good Sky TV was a godsend for weather forecasts though we were too busy to watch much else.
Dr Canepa-Anson, Sutton, August 2011

Everything was great. We enjoyed being in a remote spot though Dunvegan and Portree were still easily accessible. The islands views are incredible.
Mr Shanks, Penicuik, July 2011

The cottage is remote and peaceful in a beautiful setting. We did some fishing from the little boat and had a roam about on the vast estate. We felt free from the hassles of modern day life and had a really refreshing break. The sightseeing is incredible. Skye has so much to offer. We both agree we would like to have stayed longer.
