  • "I can't fault The Ben or its owner in any respect."

I wanted a comfortable and peaceful (and warm!) getaway for a few days, and this was ideal. I would very happily go back and would not hesitate to recommend it. By the way, there seem to be some older comments about the road to Rhiroy from the main A835 - these must be out of date, as the road (single-track of course) is absolutely fine and in good condition. Note that I think some online maps have The Ben marked in slightly the wrong place - just trust Danielle's instructions and you will be fine!

  • "I booked this accommodation as I needed a relaxing holiday."

It was located near the end of a single track road on the quiet side of Loch Broom and had a nice view of the loch and the hills and woods opposite being elevated above it. The bungalow was clean and tidy with all the facilities I needed. The town of Ullapool was located relatively short drive away ( 12 miles ) should you have the need for pubs, shops, supermarket etc. Will be returning again next year as I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The owner Danielle had even left me a voucher for a pizza which was a really nice touch.

  • "An excellent wee house in a beautiful quiet location."

Was the perfect location for access to the local hills and a perfect place to relax afterwards. I noticed a review commenting on the quality of the access road, I'd imagine it was accurate, but the road has been extensively resurfaced so is actually probably better that the A835 north of Ullapool, it is single track but ample passing places and very quiet.

The bungalow has stunning views of the mountains and loch Broom. The bungalow itself is beautifully maintained and has everything needed for self catering. I was surprised to find little extras that most places don't supply such as a hair dryer and hand wash. It was absolute perfection. Looking forward to hopefully staying again.

  • "The Ben is a lovely cottage but access is by a fairly long and poorly maintained road so you should be prepared for this."

In our case seasonal snow and ice made this an issue at times though plenty of rocksalt and shovels were provided so we could treat the steep driveway without too much difficulty. On the plus side the snow made the views even more stunning.

This delightful little cottage near Ullapool has the most fabulous views along Loch Broom. It is about 20 minute drive to Ullapool where there is plenty for a tourist to do such as eating out, taking a boat trip around the Summer Isles, driving the NC500 and shopping. 5/5 for the cottage and 5/5 for Sykes handling the booking.

I asked at the time of booking if I could plug my car in, and the proprietor agreed in return for extra electricity costs being covered. The arrangement provided all the electricity needed for our vehicle during our holiday. There’s no dedicated EV charger, but I just ran an extension cable through an open window into a regular 3 pin socket inside. The cottage was clean, warm and has all the modern comforts including smart tv and modern kitchen. Bed was an open spring mattress, but I found my back to be well supported and I had a good nights rest.

Clean, cosy and a secure. Everything we wanted it to be. Very simple arrival procedure, and it was nice to meet the owner, then be left alone for the holiday (in other cottages we have felt watched over). We have holidayed on the West coast of Scotland every year for over 20 years, this was one of the best properties for comfort and location, and we hope to return.

A lovely well equipped property that was very clean. Danielle was very helpful when we arrived and the welcome bottle of wine and voucher for sea shack food was great. Two adults and a teenager fitted in very nicely. Would have been cramped with 4 adults as only one bathroom. Ok for 2 adults and 2 small children with truckle bed. We will definitely be back

Lovely view from the property. We would have preferred more modern furniture in the living room - but that is a matter of taste - it was all spotless! We really enjoyed the honesty stall on the way to the property - the salad was excellent, and the eggs. I would recommend stocking up on food beforehand as Ullapool has limited choice. Good fishmonger - but no butcher and the Tesco is small and was rammed (although of course it was the height of the season).

The location was super for trips to Ullapool and further into the Highlands. Thank-you Danielle for your warm welcome, the wine and the voucher for the Seafood Shack. We enjoyed a lovely lunch there. Other fun times included a trip to the Summer Isles, a drive to Kylesku (breathtaking scenery), the walk up Ullapool Hill on a sunny day and a visit to Inverewe Garden. About the location

ULLAPOOL

Inverness 57 miles.

Ullapool, nestling on the shores of Loch Broom and overlooking the Summer Isles, is the largest settlement in Wester Ross. This picturesque town was designed in the 18th Century by Thomas Telford and boasts delightful, whitewashed buildings and is also the main terminus for the ferry to Stornoway, the principal town in the Western Isles. The town offers some lovely pubs and restaurants, a range of shops including a well-stocked supermarket, a challenging coastal golf course and a museum and Visitor Centre on West Argyle Street for those wishing to discover more about the area. The museum covers a range of topics including crofting, fishing, emigration and the history of the town. Ullapool is also an ideal base from which to explore the North West of Scotland, with most of the main tourist attractions an easy drive away. The National Trust for Scotland Inverewe Gardens, created by Osgood MacKenzie who collected plants from all parts of the world, is a particular highlight.
