It’s a very peaceful and relaxing place, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Abergavenny and Crick Howell are both good to visit and are only three or four miles away. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful when I spoke to her then left us to get on with holiday. The cottage was very clean and everything was there that we needed. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday.

  • "The property was spacious, clean and in a beautiful setting."

It is in an a good situation for visiting the Brecons. From the picture we anticipated a larger garden area but the garden was a narrow strip behind the property. The front of the property is available for guests to sit out but the open space directly in front of the property is for cars, and horse vans so not ideal. This was disappointing, as we had a child and two dogs with us. The outdoor chairs and table need varnishing or replacing . We didn’t use them as they looked so worn and dingy . This wasn’t great considering the lovely views we had around us. Guests need to follow the Sykes directions exactly as the Sat nav won’t help. The entrance is concealed on a busy road.

The host was also very sweet and hospitable. The only thing that could have been a bit better was the tv which did not work very often as it kept asking for a card. Nevertheless, we watched some of the super videos and got into Harry Potter for the stay! I would definitely stay here again as it was very convenient for everywhere we wanted to go. As well as having a walk up to the Sugarloaf (which we did not have time for this trip) - Lovely memories though and a super location.

Although the inside of the property was clean it was tired, drab and dated. The single beds were awful in that they are cheap soft mattresses that offered little support. The sky lights in the bedroom had no blinds so there was no way of shutting out the light. The double bedroom was dark, dreary and very dated. The outside of the property lacked maintenance. The property was functional but lacked care. The linen, towels and carpet were all tired which was a theme that sums up the property.

! We parked outside the green oil tank where most holiday people seem to park. Our new car which we'd had only for 1 week was severely damaged by a hit and run driver on the owners big carpark during the night. We are now facing a hefty repair cost. This was reported to the police. It spoilt our long awaited holiday, there were no witnesses and no cctv. Sykes not interested in any form of compensation. It's upset us and even though we haven't had any problem here before, I know we won't be visiting again. The Barn itself is exactly as pictured, some things need repair or replacement.

Never left key to access rear patio doors so after finding key to back door had to let dogs out through back door which was not convenient. However from my own point of view two vital drawbacks in that the wifi never worked and the vast network of footpaths from the rear of the property were unattainable and blocked off. The entrance to the driveway of the property is unmarked and on a fast road and you need to be very careful. Owner Wendy was nice and friendly but there were no welcome items such as milk and biscuits that I have always had in previous Sykes properties.

  • "This is the 2nd time we have stayed and we have booked again next year."

Always welcoming, plenty of space exactly as pictures show. Loads of room for parking outside the property leading up from a narrow gravel track from the A40 (no sign for it so use the Powys border one as a marker) The Barn was cosy and lovely and warm, the heating being on most of the time. The new mattresses were a medium to soft which suited us. The only thing they could do with is a clock in the livingroom and curtains in the twin bedroom as the sensor light from the owners property lights up the bedroom during the night from the wildlife passing by. There is a small strip of grass at the back approached by steps, our dog found them quite steep being elderly so I took her out the front most of the time. Views of sheep and horses from the patio doors in the livingroom give a lovely site on a wet day and the mountains through the trees at the front. We are looking forward to going again next year. Abergavenny about 4miles has everything plus free parking on Byfield Lane carpark except, Tuesday Market day.

We had a really lovely stay and were so grateful for the weather, a chance to explore the beautiful surroundings and countryside and come back to comfort and peace. Wendy and crew and their lovely dogs were quietly around if we needed them . My comments are minor We recommend A. fitting retractable blackout blinds to the bedroom roof velux windows B. Providing garden recliners eg https://www.therange.co.uk/outdoor-living/garden-furniture/garden-chairs/set-of-2-heavy-duty-textoline-zero-gravity-chairs/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuO6WBhDLARIsAIdeyDLXhg81DD_EIxMzvQaUS8Dgf0GTehG0yqH-PnyKI_18Yyn_-o7hW-waAvjyEALw_wcB#5258528 C. Sharpen the kitchen knives! D. Sand down and resrain/paint the garden furniture Here is a little suggestion - the local area is so beautiful. Ask guests to send you photos of any beautiful scenes and then turn these in to large framed picture photos to hang throughout the cottage rather than the odd and very mixed assortment of pictures you currently have. One final comment - the floor vinyl in the kitchen and utility is significantly ripped in several places, and is loose.

It has everything you need for a peaceful getaway in beautiful Brecons. The owners next door were friendly and approachable, on hand if you needed them but also gave you privacy to enjoy your holiday. Our labrador was safe exploring the enclosed garden (normally barking at the sheep!) It would be great to visit again in the warmer months so we can explore the footpaths to the rambling walks because we had to navigate the busy A40 at the end of the property entrance to go anywhere off site on foot or to get to places by car. A beautiful part of the world!

Property in a good location, quiet countryside but near enough to main roads, shops restaurants etc. The Barn is larger than the pictures show and we were pleased to have the extra downstairs toilet and utility room. The well fenced garden gave us peace of mind whilst our little Westie was in it. Although it was not the weather to sit out we imagine it would be lovely in summer. The addition of a dishwasher and a larger dining table would make the property even better. We are used to very firm mattresses and pillows so it was disappointing to find the beds very soft-but don't take this as a problem as its surely down to one's preferences. Parking is right outside the front terrace. Owners discrete but available if needed. We enjoyed a lovely break at this property and would most certainly book again.

Numerous people have mentioned it over the last few years but still no change. The double is very soft with no support and the singles you can feel the springs on them and are extremely soft with a collapsing feel . I had backache all week normally no trouble with it. The owners are welcoming, but no welcome pack as in other places we've been, just a small amount of tea coffee and sugar. There's plenty of room to park, but the entrance needs a sign on the track. I know the area well, but we still shot past it, as its opposite the powys sign from Aber, or the yellow 40 sign from Crick. It is the same as the pictures open plan loads of room. They have 4 welcoming dogs and several cats. The back strip of grass on the secured patio is steep to get to and was not big enough for my 2 cavs to have a gallop. I know there was no dish washer, but there was no washing up liquid provided, a good job I took some with me, yet washing powder was provided for the washing machine.

The property

This characterful cottage is located near the town of Abergavenny, with views across to the Blorenge Mountain and a direct footpath from the rear, bringing you up onto Sugar Loaf.

Situated on the owner’s grounds with a neighbouring working farm and an enclosed garden, The Barn is a wonderful place to stay whatever the time of year.

Upon entering, you will discover the open-plan living area; one side houses a lounge with a leather sofa and a collection of arm chairs, sitting adjacent to an electric fire.

To the other side of the room, a dining table is set up for four people, somewhere comfortable for the family to gather after an adventure filled afternoon.

With the addition of Sky TV, and a Nintendo Wii, you will be kept occupied for hours.

Upstairs in the cottage, there are two bedrooms; a charming twin room, and a double bed, which looks out over rural views, a natural backdrop to wake up to.

Start your mornings by getting ready in the lovely bathroom, then wander down to the kitchen, for those delicious refreshments or a warm cup of tea.

Large windows accompany the ground floor, so you can be at one with the location, wherever you choose to go about your day - even better, a large 'barn door' gives access to the rear garden which benefits from a patio and seating area.

A prime local area for walking and close to a pub.

Nestling between the seven mountains, with the River Usk flowing through the centre, Abergavenny boasts a castle with its own museum, churches, an indoor market hall, good shops and a multitude of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as hosting the annual food festival, as well as taking a visit to the book town of Hay on Wye.

Beautiful walks through the Wye Valley and Vale of Usk, or along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal are close by, with Crickhowell, not forgetting the breath-taking Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and Black Mountains.

A getaway not to be missed.
