  • "We recently returned from a fantastic week in Stable end and it we could not have picked a better cottage or location."

The very well thought through conversion of the old farm buildings create an idyllic setting surrounded by lovely garden and playing fields which the kids loved so much the didn't miss the electronics even though the wi-fi was perfect when required. The beds were comfy, showers hot and powerful and kitchen packed with equipment. Very good value for money and we would love to come back one day.

  • "Wonderful setting, beautifully clean."

It is of course an ancient building and has the creaks and groans on floorboards and stairs as one would expect. I would certainly like to return one day and continue further voyages in to the wonderful countryside that is the Welsh borders.

  • "Lovely property, great hosts."

Very quite location, perfect for a peaceful laidback break. Ideally located for lots attractions, plenty of National Trust properties nearby. For really good food at great prices try rhe White Lion in Leominster. All in all a great weeks holiday. Thank you

  • "Compact, but cosy."

Lovely setting. Shower in the ensuite was excellent. It would have helpful if there had been some coathooks downstairs to hang up coats. They ended up cluttering the downstairs seating.

  • "Pros Beautiful and idyllic location, right near a farm, amazing views from all windows in property of surrounding area."

Accessible to pretty villages and towns such as Pembridge, Lyonshall and Weobley. Lots of local amenities nearby. Approachable and friendly owners. Cons The lanes leading up to the cottage were very narrow and prone to floods after heavy rain. The accommodation did not feel as warm and inviting as other places we have stayed. No provision of refreshments e.g milk/tea bags. The cottage is very dated, lacked cleanliness in some areas e.g the cover on the dining table had food stains when we arrived, microwave and fridge were also unclean, grubby stains in bathroom wash basins and toilets. We opted not to use the washing machine during our stay due to build up of black gunk/grime between the drum. The shower downstairs is not suitable for an adult as it's very small and had to be operated on low water pressure otherwise the drain gets blocked and water accumulates. The flush on both toilets lacks robustness and often requires several attempts to get it to work. The toilet seat downstairs is broken and should be replaced. Very creaky upstairs and down the stairs which can cause interference if you're a light sleeper. The bedroom pillows were very flat which made sleeping uncomfortable. Bathrooms had rope light pulls which were unclean. Heating system seemed to be pre-programmed to come on at certain times. We found the cottage was cold at night and warmed up at 6am.

Thank you for your feedback; we are very sorry to hear that not everything was satisfactory. The property is a 16th century barn conversion in a very rural setting, so narrow country lanes and creaking floors are part of its charm and character. We removed tea, coffee, sugar and milk due to COVID restrictions but we are happy to confirm that these will be replaced for future guests. We are very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the cleanliness of the property as a great deal of time and effort goes into cleaning the cottage and we have never before had any complaints with regard to cleanliness, but your feedback has been taken on board and everything will be thoroughly checked and replaced where necessary in the future. We are sorry to hear that the cottage was not warm enough at night, we only wish you had communicated this to us during your stay as we could have easily resolved this for you. The heating is not on a set timer but is controlled by increasing or decreasing the temperature on the thermostat and by turning the dials on the radiators. Property Owner

  • "We have just had a wonderful holiday in Stable End cottage in Herefordshire."

The cottage was perfect and exactly as described. It was clean and spacious with excellent facilities and the perfect combination of private outdoor space and shared space for the kids to make friends. The wifi was very useful and the eggs from the farm were the best ever. Dealing with Sykes was a pleasure. They were helpful and friendly with a good sense of humour and sent through clear instructions about our holiday without bombarding us with unnecessary information. Thank you.

  • "This was well equipped accommodation in a charming setting within reach of many historic towns, villages, places of interest, pubs etc."

Largely comfy beds and quality bed linen. All I'd say is that the walls are thin, extractor fans connected to bathroom lights noisy and stairs creaky (it's a barn conversion after all) so I was grateful I was staying with considerate people and took ear plugs! Loved the placing of the downstairs bathroom which gave us the impression of a separate wing.

  • "We (2 families with children under 10) had a great week in Stable End."

The barn conversion is very cosy and had everything we needed. Showers were powerful and hot, beds were comfy, central heating was very responsive and the place was quiet. Plenty of safe, outdoor areas for our children to play.

  • "It is a lovely clean cosy cottage."

The crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment was of high quality. We had everything we needed for self catering. It was great value fir money. It’s in a lovely location, tranqille settings and in easy teach of the many attractions. There was no noise from the farm apart from the sheep baying but we found them interesting and charming. Have very lovely memories, we all do. Only a couple of issues which I’m sure you are aware of, lots of little flys and bath towels quite hard. It may be that previous residents washed them without conditioner and dried of the line. Thanks again we will recommend you.

We've still got a lot of the UK to explore so let's hope there are cottages close to the areas we plan to visit.

The location could not be more idyllic! With plenty of open space for kids to play and all the home comforts a family needs it is the perfect destination for gatherings or just a weekend getaway from city life. We met the owner Sandra who is simply lovely and incredibly welcoming. I would definitely return and would highly recommend!

  • "The surrounding areas were simply breathtaking and many of the sights were not too far to get to."

The Owens' dog, Gilbert, was absolutely delightful & amusing. Perhaps the only disappointing aspect was that there was not so much as a complimentary pint of milk or even a bar of guest soap to make a start with. These little gestures (and more) were always available in the other Sykes cottages, although of course this is down to the owner's discretion. Overall, it was beautiful and definitely worth a second stay.

The tiny rural hamlet of Luntley is situated in the rolling hills of North Herefordshire, in the heart of the Welsh Marches, between Ludlow and Hay-on-Wye. Just 2 miles away is the medieval village of Pembridge, known as the “Jewel in the Crown” of the famous “Black & White Village Trail.” With its half-timbered houses, three excellent “olde worlde” pubs, a 14th century market hall and a church with a unique detached bell tower, this wonderful village is a delight to visit. The surrounding countryside is both beautiful and tranquil and offers excellent walking, cycling, riding and fishing. Further afield, but still within easy reach, are the ancient city of Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, medieval Ludlow, the wonderful Shropshire Hills, the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park.
