Location: Yarmouth, Isle Of Wight

Newport 12 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

The attractive seaside town of Yarmouth is the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, and its busy harbour is a haven for all kinds of watercraft, with the terminal used for regular mainland ferry crossings to Lymington. Yarmouth’s narrow streets are home to an attractive array of shops and inns, whilst a visit to Henry VIII’s castle is not to be missed. There's great cycling (and a cycle hire shop) and walking to be had along the coastal path, or why not take an energetic stroll across to the nearby Tennyson Down via the Red Lion Inn next to Freshwater's Norman Church of All Saints? Sandhard beach is 15 minutes' walk away, and is ideal for swimming and crabbing from the jetty. Yarmouth's historic water mill is another good spot for crabbing. 4 miles away is Compton beach, famous for dinosaur remains; go there at low tide and see if you can find the two enormous three-toed feet. West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Yarmouth is an ideal base from which to explore this wonderful island.

Amazing location, directly on the beach, fabulous. Perfect for dogs and an ideal base for exploring the island, really close to the ferry port and easy walk to Yarmouth. Fantastic to sit on the patio or in the lounge with the doors open just watching the boats go by and the sunset.
Miss Coates, Nottingham, July 2012

The location of the cottage was good. This is the second cottage we have rented from Sykes and it will not be the last. Thanks to the staff.
