We stayed 5 weeks as we were between a house move. Loved the cottage and apple orchards, there are pubs nearby and some nice country walks near Yalding village. Well located to National Trust sites such as Bodiam or Sissinghurst. The cottage was nice and warm and had everything we needed during our stay. The kitchen is well equipped as well with all the mods and items. The owners were very friendly. Would love to return end of summer when apples harvest.

Great location for all the sights of Kent. Property warmed up quickly, the beds were the most comfortable we have had away from home and it had mostly everything we needed, although as no smart TV, it was a shame no DVD player, which was listed on property details. You will enjoy your stay here.

The sofas were low for us for getting up from them. Kitchen well furnished, though could do with a pair of tongs. Good size fridge and freezer. Nice big bathroom though bath awkward to get out of, maybe put a handle on wall like in the shower. We didn't like the fact we have to be out for nine o clock.

Directions to the property could be improved - we know the area a little but maybe use the Church as a landmark with directions from there. The tiled bathroom floor was immaculate but take great care as just a very small amount of water on the floor made the tiles incredibly slippery - even though bath mat was provided which could have been a bit bigger and thicker.

  • "This was our second stay at Little Melrose, a lovely warm and cosy cottage in peaceful surroundings."

It is comfortable and well-equipped, and just right for a winter break. There was even a small Christmas tree and a poinsettia to provide festive touches. The owners, Vicky and Brian are very friendly, and on our last visit they invited us to pick apples from the orchard. The cottage is in a convenient location for visiting some of the castles and National Trust houses in the area, and we enjoyed drives in the beautiful countryside too. We had a great time and would recommend a stay at Little Melrose.

  • "All was fine."

Comfortable bungalow. Quite spacious, clean and everything there that's needed and useful. Single beds were comfy although they each had a double winter quilt on which were a bit heavy when you turn over. I felt a bit pinned down! Loved the large bathroom. It was easy to get the whole bungalow warm, and both tv and WiFi worked. Owners were there if any issues (I needed an adaptor for my toothbrush and they kindly found one). Here is a good base for National Trust visiting and although near a road, it wasn't noisy at night. I loved the positioning of the building with sun streaming in in the morning. I felt like I was in a French orchard. I could happily live here.

It was spotlessly clean and well equipped, including a supply of large fluffy towels in the bathroom. There are many wonderful places to visit in the area, including Hever Castle, Leeds Castle, Knole and Tunbridge Wells. The countryside is beautiful and there are many pretty and historic villages nearby. We had a splendid holiday!

Just had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday. The owners were lovely and even suggested changes to the way the beds were arranged in the bedroom (and moved the beds for us!) to make the bedroom easier for us to get around. Beds are very comfortable. The bathroom is spacious with separate shower cubicle and bath. The kitchen is very well appointed with dishwasher and washing machine. The weather (end of September) had turned damp and cooler and the central heating was very welcome. Husband has some mobility problems (but is not a wheelchair user), but he could easily manage the few shallow steps up to the front door. It was very convenient to have under-cover parking which helped when it was raining. So pleased we chose Little Melrose, great cottage!

The Cottage is 30m from a fast (50mph speed limit), at times busy and noisy B class road, with traffic noise which could be heard even with all windows and doors closed, and so early morning listening to the bird song tinged with traffic was inevitable. About the location

COLLIER STREET

Lamberhurst 8 miles; Maidstone 8 miles; Royal Tunbridge Wells 11.5 miles.

The small rural village of Collier Street, Kent, sits close to the border with Sussex and was once set at the heart of Britain’s hop-growing region, with whole families, often from London, arriving during the harvest to help bring in the hops. You're sure to find fresh produce locally, as today the fields are home to several crops including cherries, pears, strawberries and asparagus, but this area is more known for its apple orchards. The village is also only a few miles from the The Hop Farm Family Park, previously a brewery owned by the Whitbread family, now a popular family attraction and concert venue. The Kent County Showground at Detling is only a short trip away, where there are events throughout the year from dressage shows to craft fairs, ploughing contests and vintage transport displays. This part of Kent is scattered with historic houses and magnificent castles, including Leeds Castle, just ten miles away, said to be one of the loveliest in the world. If fishing is a favourite pastime, this rural location is a perfect choice, with two large lakes and three rivers to settle beside in the hope of a bite! Collier Street may be a quiet, country village but there is plenty to see and do within easy reach, perfect whether you’re seeking a weekend getaway or a long summer holiday.
