Winchelsea is a small town in East Sussex, located between the High Weald and the Romney Marshes, approximately two miles from Rye and seven miles from Hastings and in a convenient location to explore the stunning surrounds of East Sussex and neighbouring Kent: The Garden of England. The village offers a real sense of space and freedom and provides a wonderfully refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. All around the town are the reminiscent remnants of the past including the Church of St Thomas the Martyr, three medieval gates standing guard against long-departed foes and the hidden wine cellars of the old port town. Today, Winchelsea offers a shop, deli, pub and a Post Office. There is a wonderful shingle beach marking the point where the marshland meets the sea, a perfect spot for crabbing and birdwatching. Walking trails such as the Saxon Shore Way runs through Winchelsea as well as plenty of cycling routes. Just two miles away is the cobbled town of Rye, offering an excellent array of unusual shops, antique emporiums, galleries selling local artist paintings and pottery.
