Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.
The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.

The cottage is warm and inviting, boasting original features such as exposed beams, while the addition of a four poster bed and multi-fuel stove create a cottage of character and olde worlde charm. We both enjoyed being able to just sit and relax, the cottage was located a few minutes from the lovely town centre. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from and the local people were very friendly, we will definitely go back again.
