The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.

A short walk away is the town centre, with its handsome Georgian buildings, newly refurbished market place and abundance of old pubs and eating places, making this an ideal base for exploring the western lakes, the Solway Coast and the bustling town of Keswick. A great cottage in which to relax and enjoy a romantic break at any time of the year.

Roadside parking (with disc) beginning 30 yards from cottage, pay-and-display and free public car parks within 50 yards. One well behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shops 2 mins walk, pub 1 min walk. Note: Due to steep stairs, this property is unsuitable for the infirm.

We both enjoyed being able to just sit and relax, the cottage was located a few minutes from the lovely town centre. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from and the local people were very friendly, we will definitely go back again.

The cottage was located in an "easy to find your way round" town and situated within reach of Buttermere and Bassenthwaite. First time in years we've holidayed in England and would definitely go back to Cockermouth.
