Carlisle 12 miles; Keswick 20 miles.
A traditional Cumbrian market town with a charter granted in 1262, which still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. Wigton is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, and also boasts a theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. Lord Melvyn Bragg was a native of Wigton, and used the town (called Thurston in some of his writings) and the surrounding area as the setting for his novels including ‘A Time to Dance’. Located 18 miles from Penrith it is a good base for the attractions of the North Lakes, the cathedral city of Carlisle, 12 miles away, Keswick, just north Derwentwater and close to Lake Bassenthwaite, and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. Hadrian’s Wall is within 25 miles, while the Scottish Borders, and Gretna Green, are within easy reach.

Previous visitors' comments about Foxgloves Cottage:
A real working farm. Owners really looked after us, including asking if the children wanted to feed the lamb and calf, they did! Top marks all round.
Mr Bartram, York, March 2013
Loved everything about the holiday, the owners are wonderful people and nothing is to much trouble for them. The cottage was very well equipped, with everything you needed and more! The property was clean and very well kept. The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated and really welcoming with warm colours. The kids enjoyed helping the owners with the animals on the farm especially feeding the lambs and were pleased to be able to see a newborn lamb, which was born the day before we left. Overall an excellent holiday, great hosts, great location, great house! We will definitely return in the future and highly recommend it!
Mrs Mulligan, Stockport, February 2012

Mrs Griffin, Rotherham, August 2011
The owners were very helpful and friendly and supplied everything we needed from directions and recommendations to fresh free range eggs. It was a very very pleasant all round experience.
