    • “Warm and comfortable stay”

    • “Well appointed and comfortable cottage which was very well equipped (only grumble was a lack of good sharp knives) and well furnished. The weather during our stay was wild, cold and wet but we were toasty inside with a combination of electric heating, topped up by a solid fuel stove in the living room. We have rented many cottages over the years and reckon this was the best for location, views, comfort and warmth!”

    • “We have stayed here before and will be coming back every year. The cottage is situated in an ideal location and is central to all of the lakes and villages. Lots to do and see. Excellent facilities at the cottage, clean and well maintained. Its got everything you would need which makes it home from home but with better views and weather.”

    • “The cottage was lovely and characterful, but with all mod cons, fantastic views at the front, beautiful cottage garden at the back, peaceful, wish we lived there! Ideal place for access to the Lakes and surrounding areas, also easy to reach Carlisle.”

    • “A beautifully set up cottage in a great location”

    • “The cottage is in a wonderfully peaceful spot, with lovely views across fields to Mell Fell. A nearby footpath crosses a couple of fields to the pub and bus stop in the centre of the village. Penruddock is about 4 miles from the southern end of Ullswater, but more driving is involved to reach the heart of the Lake District and the high fells. However, the lanes around Penruddock are quiet and peaceful, away from the crowds, and it is well located for less frequented walks. We made good use of the excellent bus service to Penrith and to Keswick and beyond, (free for us now we have reached 60!) The cottage is well equipped and furnished, with a new kitchen, including dishwasher, and large fridge-freezer. TV reception is limited, due to the location. Bedrooms smallish, but very comfortable, with great views. The bathroom is downstairs, through the kitchen. We were there for a fortnight, and would have appreciated a washing machine (there is one, not yet plumbed in). However overall we loved the cottage, felt very at home, thought it was good value, and would like to return.”

    • “One of the best cottages we have stayed in, with everything you'd need to make your stay special, in a beautiful location overlooking the Mell Fell hills.”

    • “the photos don't do it justice”

    • “Had a lovely stay in the cottage, it is hidden down a lane, we got lost trying to find it. Once there had no complaints, the view is fantastic, has everything you need in there. Board games and dvds for when the weather isnt great. Was close enough to activities locations if you drive. A pub just around the corner is fab, lovely food and very friendly. Farm shop/cafe is 3 miles away, take a walk down the lane to get there and you'll also come across another great place to eat and drink. We had a lot of rain whilst we were there so would recommend wellies if you are walking to the pub as the puddles can get very big.”

    • “A pleasant relaxing week”

    • “The cottage is located in a quiet secluded part of the village. Cooage was clean and homely. Kitchen was well equiped and I was able to cook without any hassle. We ate at the local Inns and I enjoyed The Sportsman's food and Jennings ale. We enjoyed the seclusion and quiet as we were ready for a rest, but amenities were close enough for nice days out exploring. The only thing I was disappointed with was the bathroom. It is in need of refurbishing. The log burner was a novelty, and we soon had the cottage snug and warm.”

About the location

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
